Indian Railway Mission VISION To promote Green environment and clean energy while making the Indian Railways a global leader in sustainable mass transport solutions. MISSION • To promote energy conservation measures. • To maximize the use of alternate forms of clean energy, thereby minimizing the carbon footprint of Railways. • To provide clean and hygienic environment to customers. • To promote conservation of water and other natural resources. • To march towards Zero waste discharge from the major Railway units. • To promote Green built-up spaces and expand tree-cover. • Building in house capacity to set up an effective Environment Management System. • Noise reduction in Railway operations.



NORTH WESTERN RAILWAY ENVIRONMENT & HOUSEKEEPING MANAGEMENT Scope of work  Co-ordination on all environmental aspects addressed by NGT  Sanctioning and monitoring of ERWs  All matters pertaining to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.  Monitoring of EnHM activities like Green Rating, CSR activities, Energy Efficiency, water conservation  Inter-Ministerial & inter-departmental coordination on climate change and Sustainable development.  Station Cleanliness of (25 stations) A1 & A Category  Pest & Rodent control in A1 & A category station, depots and coaching trains.

1.0 1 GREEN INITIATIVES Indian Railway taken the initiatives of undertaking Green Rating certification for different types of railways establishments, including the industrial units. Such certification mainly covers assessment of parameters having direct bearing on environment, such as, energy conservation measures, use of renewable energy, impact on GHG emission, water conservation, soil & liquid waste management, green covers etc. GreenCo Rating developed by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) offers significant value addition and direction to organization in terms of resources conservation, waste reduction, climate change mitigation, greener supply chain and superior environmental performance. • A MoU was signed by IR with CII on 13th Sept 2019 for facilitation of Green initiatives on IR. • Assessment Areas for Green certification Water GHG Conservation Mitigation Energy Green Life recycle Conservation Certification assessment Energy Waste Conservation reduction & Management Material Green Renewable Conservation Supply Energy chain

1.2 4 Green Buildings: Green Buildings are an effect to reduce the negative impact of buildings on the environment during its construction and use. The aim of green building is to minimize demand on non-renewable resources, maximize the utilization efficiency of resources, and maximize the reuse, recycling and utilization of renewable resources.  The rating systems in India like LEED, GRIHA, IGBC offer green rating for existing building as well as new building.  North Western Railway Headquarter Building or GM office, was certified as “Platinum” Rated Green building

1.3 5 Green Railway stations: Indian Railway Building Council – Confederation of Indian Industry (IGBC-CII), have developed Green Railway stations Rating system to assess and facilitate the transformation of existing railway station into Eco-friendly ones.  Jaipur Railway Station had achieved Green Railway Station “Silver” rating during the year 2017-18. and upgraded to “Platinum” rating during 2018-19.

1.4 6 Other Green Certifications:  Central Hospital Jaipur (CH-JP) had achieved Platinum certification on 15.12.2019 Under IGBC Green Campus rating system.  Ajmer Railway Hospital achieved Silver certification on 10.09.2018 Green “Silver” rating shield received by AII railway Hospital ISO – 14001:2015 Certification of NWR Stations Total 27 railway stations of NWR achieved ISO 14001-2015 certification for Environment Management system in 2019. 2.0 7 Environment friendly Bio-Toilets for Passenger Coaches: Indian railway, in their commitment to provide hygienic environment to passengers and to keep station premises/tracks clean, have developed environment-friendly Bio-Toilets for its passengers coaches.  Bio-Toilets have been developed jointly by Indian railway (IR) & Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO).  It is Environment friendly, low cost and robust technology  The anaerobic bacteria used in the Bio-digester are hardy enough to survive extreme cold and also survive when subjected to commonly available disinfectants.  Raw human waste thus does not fall on the railway tracks and this keeps stations premises/tracks clean.  Total 8946 Bio-toilets – Provided in 2723 coaches. 100% NWR based trains run with Bio-toilets tank coaches.  Awareness programme to educate the passengers on “How to use bio-toilets – Dos & Don’ts” are regularly being conducted by means of providing stickers in coach toilets, playing audio/video clipping at railway stations. 2.1 8 Bio-Vacuum Toilets: With an aim to provide clean and efficient toilets and to reduce the water consumption in toilets, IR, is doing a trial of Bio-Vacuum toilets. Total 286 Bio-Vacuum toilets have been provided as per Railway Board contracts, in NWR based Humsafar Exp train’s coaches. These are aircraft type toilet on the passenger interface and bio-digester tank is fitted beneath the toilets on the coach. The faecal matter gets digested in the bio-tanks on board.

9 3.0 Afforestation over NWR Task of massive Afforestation on Railway Land and along the tracks is undertaken by North Western Railway. For this purpose an MOU is under finalization between North Western Railways and State Forest department. Approximately, 11.6 Lakhs saplings/trees have been planted on 1160 hectare land so far. 11.6 Lakh Tree Plantation Cumulative 9.1 Lakh 2.57 Contributing Lakh to India’s NDC to 2017-18 2018-19 2019-20 create additional carbon sink of 2.5 to 3 billion tonnes of CO2 by 2030

4.1 12 Water management Plan Indian railway, being a major consumer of water, ought to take adequate and effective measure to improve the management of demand as well as supply of water to be a part of the environmental objective as well as avoid water scarcity coming in the way of operation & maintenance of railways. Government of India in its Intended nationally Determined Contribution (INDC) submitted to UNFCCC, has committed to improve the water use efficiency by 20%. This is a legally binding commitment on India. Zonal railway endeavor to make at least one unit (Colony, workshop , shed, station etc) every year to become water positive which implies that recycled water plus water harvested is more than water extracted & consumed.  Total 07 Water Recycling Plant has been provided at major water consumption centers in NWR.  ETPs/STPs to installed and revival of water bodies  Water audit to be done at major water consumption colonies/institutions/stations  Inclusion of Automatic coach washing plant with Water recycling plant in all depots  use/proliferation of water efficient fixtures, installation of water meters etc. Water Recycling Plant at Coach Maintenance depots at Jaipur station installed in 2017

4.2 13 Automatic Coach Washing plant over NWR: Total 07 (JU, MTD, MD, BKN, SGNR, BME, LGH) ACWP installed at 07 depots of NWR up to Sept’2020. Under-progress ACWP at UDZ, HSR, JP depots ACWP at Jodhpur ACWP at SGNR ACWP at MTD

4.3 14 STPs/ETPs over NWR: Total 11 ETPs & 04 STPs has been installed over NWR up to Sept 2020. Under-progress 01-ETP at BGKT JU & 04 STPs at BKN, Rail Nikunj colony & RE station. STP at Ajmer Hospital STP at NWR HQ Office

4.4 15 Quick Water arrangement Quick watering facility is already available at 04 main enroute junctions : Ajmer, Abu Road, Jaipur and Jodhpur. On-progress at another 03 (BKN, HSR, RE) main Junction station. Recently commissioned Quick watering system at jodhpur and BKN stations. Upgrading water supply systems implies a continuous supervision of the water supply process in order to allow any problem that could appear to be solved, and the same time, to maintain normal functioning parameters.

4.5 16 Waterless or Odorless Urinals over NWR: Waterless odourless urinals have been provided at stations and offices in NWR. Further proliferation of these urinals is being done by sanctioning works for HQ office building under Environment Related Works (ERWs). 4.6 17 Water conservation Award: North Western Railway HQ Office Jaipur was awarded 1st Water Conservation award in 2019 by IGBC for adopting water conservation measures DRM-Jaipur was awarded for Special contribution in green building movement and Jaipur station received water conservation award in IGBC's 1st water conservation award ceremony. It was first ever award function in category of water conservation by Confederation of Indian Industries, Indian Green Building Council.

5.0 18 Waste Management over NWR: Disposal of solid waste garbage in a comprehensive and scientific manner so that minimum handling should be involved and biogas & manure generated can be utilized for agriculture purpose. In view of above, “Solid Waste Management Plant”, a first ever pilot project in Indian Railways, is set up and commissioned at coaching depot Jaipur in Mar’16. Solid Waste Management is a strategic approach by considering aspects like solid waste collection, segregation, digestion/bio-methanation & final disposal of all products and by-products in environmental friendly manner as per prevalent laws.

5.1 19 Waste To Energy Plants: “Waste to Energy” Plant Jaipur Jaipur division of North Western Railway has been continuously showing its commitment towards implementing the ideas of waste management and optimum use of its end products. “Waste to Energy” Plant of 5 Ton municipal solid waste (MSW) capacity is under commissioning at Railway Station, Jaipur with the delivery of 150 KWH (units) of electricity per day to Railway. “Waste to Energy” Plant Jaipur NWR HQ 150 KLD Capacity OWC installed in 2019

5.2 20 PET Bottle Crusher Machines: PET Bottle Crusher Machines have been installed at AII, ABR, JP, GADJ, AWR, JU, JSM, NGO, PMY, BME stations and JU Coaching depot along with Heavy duty hydraulic compactor at JU depot. PET Bottle Crusher Machines at Gandhinagar station and Ajmer station Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine & Incinerators: Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine & Incinerators installed at Jaipur, Gandhinagar, Durgapura, Ajmer, Udaipur City, Abu Road, Sriganganagar & Bikaner stations and NWR HQ building. Sanitary Napkin Vending Machine & Incinerators installed & commissioned at NWR HQ building ladies toilets

21 6.0 Renewable Energy Indian Railway being a significant consumer of energy, identifying cost-effective options to achieve and realizing an energy system with least environment impact is essential. Indian Railway has been taking several steps to install clean and efficient energy. Vision 2020 document of the Indian Railways states the key target is to utilize at least 10% of its energy requirement from renewable sources. Solar Energy over NWR: 6.973 Mega Watt (MW) solar plats on roof top of railway building , which will be used for meeting non-traction power supply loads at railway stations etc. Wind Energy over NWR: 26 Mega Watt (MW) wind energy plant installed at Jaiselmer( JU division)

22 6.1 Energy Conservation Initiatives:  100 % LED lights have been provided at 4545 stations and 713 service.  Atomization of pumps with GSM based technique.  Micro-controller based automatic platform lighting management system with segregation of 70%/30% circuits.  Use of BEE standard labeled electrical products and equipments.  Solar based LED lighting system for level crossing gates.  Use of solar water heater in place of electric geyser.

6.2 23 Energy conservation Award 2019: NWR Head quarter building is awarded with 1st Prize of Rajasthan Energy Conservation Award – 2019 (Govt. Building- Office). Gandhi Nagar Railway Station is awarded with 2nd Prize of Rajasthan Energy Conservation Award – 2019 (Govt. Building).

7.0 24 Station Cleanliness ranking 2019 NWR secured First Rank in category of NSG stations got 848.764 marks out of 1000 in railway station Cleanliness Survey’2019. 07 stations of NWR ranked among top 10 stations over IR. Jaipur and Jodhpur stations of NWR secured 1st and 2nd ranks consecutively in category of NSG class stations & Durgapura secured 3rd rank. Ajmer (NSG2), Gandhinagar and Alwar (NSG3) and Suratgarh (NSG4) improved their previous ranking in survey. 8.0 25 Environment Related Works A total of Twenty Eight (26) works (ERWs) of 8.07 Cr. Have been sanctioned under 15 provisioning for the year 2019-20 and are under various stages of progress in different field units over NWR. The position of sanctioned works and % of fund utilization over NWR is as follows. 30 5S- Workplace Management System 22 Units of NWR have adopted 5S Workplace management system to organize a work space for better efficiency and effectiveness. Units Nos. 31 Expectations from Rail Users  Use earmarked dustbins for dry and wet garbage at stations premises.  Do not spit.  Do not throw bottles, pouches, sanitary napkins in Bio-toilets of coaches.  Ensure flushing after using toilets.  Do not throw garbage on tracks.  Use PET bottle crushing machines at stations.  Use water vending machines at stations.  Don’t damage Rail property.  Linen and napkins not misused.  Use E-toilets and E-tickets.  Travel with minimum luggage.
