COOREVILLE GARDENS CITIZENS ASSOCIATION Annual Report 2019/21 Together We Build Published Nov. 2021

Message FROM THE PRESIDENT The new Executive team elected at the AGM in October was for a term of 2 years in keeping with amendments made to the Constitution at the said AGM. There were a number of accomplishments and disappointments over the period. One major achievement was the repair to roads in the community, funded by the NHT. Second was the signing of an Addendum to the Memorandum of Agreement with the Housing Ministry for the Association to receive an annual amount to offset the shortfall in our annual budget. This will enable the Executive to accomplish much more on an annual basis. Of significance also was the changing of bank signatories and access to online banking. This creates easier access to funds when required. On the downside was the lack of accomplishment with several projects we committed to start. Also, the length of time it took to receive the budgetary allocation from the Ministry and this prevented us from implementing some of the plans. The corona virus which came upon us from mid 2020 slowed down the pace at which matters could be addressed and required adjustment to a new way of doing things. During the term, two members of the Committee resigned for personal reasons. Thanks for the opportunity to have served as President and as an Association, we look forward to better things to come.

February National Water Commission piped water and 2020 meter were installed at the Community Centre. The social event Socialize was started for a number of Fridays during each month with the aim of encouraging persons to exercise. This however was not well supported. Memorandum of Agreement was signed between Cooreville Gardens Citizens Trust Limited and the Minister of Housing for an annual amount to be paid from the Digicel Tower Fund to meet the association’s budget shortfall.

May 2020 The painting of the perimeter wall started on Labour Day and continued on two other occasions, more paint is required in order to complete the job.

June 2020 The Duhaney Park Development Area Committee along with the Social Development Commission (SDC) launched its farmers market by providing ground provisions and other food items for sale to Cooreville residents and surrounding communities. Major debushing of the community lands took place and an amount of $387,500 was spent from the Digicel Tower Fund through the Ministry of Housing.

July to August Restrictions brought about by the 2020 Corona Virus resulted in no social event or Back to School Treat being held for the summer. October 2020 A cellular phone was purchased for the Association to be used by the Secretary. The Association had its first virtual monthly meeting this month. Excess rains in this month caused collapse of the drain to the back of residents along Ken Boothe Close and flooding along that road.

March 2021 A total of 7 derelict vehicles were removed from the community by the KSAMC. Fire gutted 2 houses and did damage to a third along Bob Marley Boulevard. Safety rails were installed along the sidewalk at the Duhaney Park Bus Stop to prevent persons from falling in the gully as a result of representation made by the Association.

The Association acquired a desk, filing cabinet, multi- function printer, projector and screen funded by Digicel Tower Fund. Three exit doors for the community center were repaired and are now functional.
