Mission report in Iran during Feb 2015 Objective(s)and Background The main purpose of the mission was to understand how UNEP would support the SoE report (DoE has a support contract with the University of Shahid Beheshti). A second objective was to conduct a workshop that provided an opportunity for participants to understand and use UNEP Live.

Mission report in Iran during Feb 2015 Breakout Groups and Conclusions There were five breakout groups on the basis of their experiences: Water, Air, Soil, Biodiversity and Human Habitats. A questionnaire was used to guide the discussions. During the plenary, priority indicators were identified. Finally the SOE project manager embed these in the SoE report.

Mission report in Iran during Feb 2015 Site visits The team visited various laboratories inside the DoE building. These laboratories act as referral centers for the provincial ones. They collect, verify, aggregate and post data on to a portal. Data includes industrial incidents, air quality, water quality among others.

Mission report in Iran during Feb 2015 Recommendation(s)/ Actions to be Taken 1. Dr. Mohammad Zokaei of Shahid Beheshti University will will send an outline to UNEP. 2. UNEP will review and provide advice. 3. The short SoE report will be used to produce an eBook. 4. Dr. Mohammad Zokaei will send an eCopy of the previous SOE for Iran. 5. UNEP Live team to put together a questionnaire that will be used to assess the inventory of datasets under Iran's Department of Environment to be used for National Reporting System (NRS). 6. International Affairs & Conventions Center will translate the questionnaire into Persian. 7. Invite Dr. Sasan Rabieh and Dr. Asghar Mohammadi Fazel to participate in the Pan European Regional Information Network (REIN) Meeting which is going to be held between 13 and 17 April 2015 in Istanbul, Turkey. A capacity building workshop to be organized in future to cover GIS, eBook production, NRS, and mobile and other cheap monitoring tools for water and air quality.
