The RCLN offers a variety of in- classroom and virtual learning opportunities to those who wish to improve their essential skills, including reading, math, digital, communication, critical thinking, problem- solving, and working with others. Name of Organization: Richmond River Roots Market Garden Society Mandate/Purpose/Description of Recognizing the extent of food insecurity in the area, in services offered. 2019, the Kingston Centre undertook the development of a social enterprise based on a market garden (Richmond River Roots Market Garden). The approach centres around increasing food security in Richmond County and surrounding areas through a multi-faceted approach. The objectives are (1) to increase access to fresh, affordable produce; (2) to increase knowledge and implementation of ‘backyard gardening’ by County residents; (3) to establish a sustainable social enterprise whereby two to three apprentices/year are educated in eco-agricultural/ heritage approaches to market gardening; and (4) to establish a community kitchen to teach and produce meals for vulnerable community members. Name of Organization: Seniors Take Action Coalition Mandate/Purpose/Description of Seniors Take Action Coalition (STAC) is a non-registered, services offered. non-profit organization of people passionate about the well- being of seniors in the Strait Richmond Area. STAC was established in January, 2016, with collaboration and support from Community Links and NSH Public Health. Members of STAC come from various seniors’ clubs and groups as well as individuals from other community organizations. We have established linkages with Nova Scotia Health-Mental Health and Addictions and Public Health, Housing Nova Scotia, Richmond Literacy Network, the Dr. Kingston Community Health Centre, Richmond County Seniors’ Council, Richmond County Municipality, Telile, Strait Transit, Community Links, Strait Area Housing Matters Coalition, seniors’ groups and others through STAC members and representatives. Our activities have included sponsoring and supporting the Mind, Body and Spirit Project, Seniors Take Action Conferences (Age is Attitude, 2017; Seniors Issues Matter, 2019), a seniors housing survey, an Emergency Preparedness Think Tank, Call to Action Municipal Candidate Forum and Housing Think Tank.
