KAREN BYRNES:#1Karen says:Leaf spider - this image was taken during the recent workshop using my Lensbaby...I was drawn tothe shadow the leaves were making on the fence that looked spider like.Ken says:I don’t plan to look at this image in the middle of night! Quite scary Karen but a really good shadow.I’d be inclined to crop out the greenery (see next page): 52

#2Karen says:Surfer awaits - this image was also taken during my recent holidays (for the workshop) and althoughit’s ‘technically' a reflection, I was trying to capture the surfer waiting patiently for the others to comein….Ken says:It’s a nice image for sure but doesn’t fit the assignment brief of shadows. 54
#3Karen says:Tip my hat - this image was fun in the making…my daughter just loves her ‘grandpa’ style hat andwas happy to pose to let me create another image for this month’s assignment, taken using myLensbaby.Ken says:Unlike your #2, this one does fit the brief and is excellent! You and Dominique should get togetherfor a shoot! Your styles are similar. 55
LINDA FRIEND:#1Linda says:This is a country road on the way to the daycare for my dog. I was attracted by the morning light inthe valley and took photos, walking up and down the road. The original was in colour, but I thoughtthe colour detracted from the forms, so made it B&W. I liked the way the shadows fell and thoughtthe building gave interest.Ken says:I really like this image. The conversion to mono was a wise move as it puts some real emotion iuntothe shadows. I wonder what you think of this extra move (see next page)?: 56

#2Linda says:This was in the same area. The leaves give it the colour of Autumn. Both were taken with LensbabyMuse which I am still learning how to use.Ken says:You seem to be doing well with Lenbsbaby. It needs a little patience! Your sweet spot is quite wellplaced and there is plenty of movement in the image. 58
#3Linda says:This photo was taken in a local park. I tried to include some Autumn leaves. Lensbaby again. I likedthe highlights and the swirly effect.Ken says:That is quite a creative effort and I agree with you on the hightlights and swirly effect. You andLensbaby will make a happy union I suspect! 59
#4Linda says:I have been photographing flowers a la Mapplethorpe and yesterday bought some Plastex sheets andas I was experimenting today, began seeing shadows, so took this photo after placing the plastic indifferent positions.Ken says:That is a nice idea and could lead to endless effects. When you get six or seven different ones, sendthem to me for use as a Portfolio feature in our Newsletter. 60
