Timeline: AU’s 50th Anniversary The University is a non-pro t institution administered by the Brothers of St. Gabriel. 1969 AU was initially originated from Assumption Commercial College as an autonomous higher education institution under the name of Assumption School of Business (ASB). 1972 Jun. 16, ASB was o cially accredited by the Ministry of Education and changed its name to Assumption Business Administration College, better known as ABAC. Jun. 23, Rev. Bro. Sompong Jirananda was appointed the rst president; and served as a Director (President) until 1974.

1973 Jun., ABAC was moved from ACC to the Hua Mak Campus. 1974 Rev. Bro. Sompong retired and Acharn Wanphen Nopaket was appointed second president; serving as a Director (President) until 1976. 1975 May 30, ABAC’s degrees fully accredited by the Ministry of University A airs. 1976 Dec. 2, Prof. Dr. Choop Kanchanaprakorn was inaugurated as the third President succeeding A. Wanphen Napaket; performing as the Director (President) until 1979.

1979 Aug. 25, Rev. Bro. Prathip M. Komolmas was named the 4th President; who served in this position until 2002. 1983 Oct., ABAC and its surrounding areas were about 50-centimeters inundated by ood water for several weeks. 1984 Oct. 10 , ABAC rstly permitted to o er Graduate Programs and on Jun. 15, 1985, the MBA Program was launched. 1986 Faculty of Arts was established with two programs (majors) : Business English and Business French.

1988 Faculty of Nursing Science was established and fully accredited by the Ministry of University A airs on June 1, 1992. Graduate School of Philosophy and Religion was established with two programs: MA in Philosophy and MA in Religious Studies. 1990 May 22, ABAC obtained its University status and was renamed AU. Faculty of Science and Technology was established with two departments: Computer Science (CS) and Information Technology (IT). Faculty of Engineering was established with two departments: Department of Electrical Engineering and Department of Electronics Engineering.

1992 Faculty of Communication Arts was established with two programs: Advertising and Visual Communication Arts. Faculty of Law was established to produce graduates for legal profession specializing in business law. 1993 Graduate School of Counseling Psychology was established with two programs: M.S. in Counseling Psychology and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology. Faculty of Biotechnology was established with two programs: Agro Biotechnology and Food Biotechnology.

1994 Cathedral of Learning was constructed as the rst building at Bang Na Campus (now Suvarnabhumi Campus). 1995 Bang Na Campus was established and o cially approved by the Ministry of University A airs. The AU Silver Jubilee was celebrated. 1997 Faculty of Architecture was established with two departments: Department of Architecture and Department of Interior Architecture.

1998 AU initiated the Graduate School of Education (GSEd). 2000 Classes began at Bang Na Campus. 2002 Rev. Bro. Dr. Bancha Saenghiran was inaugurated as the 5th President; serving as the Rector until the present. 2004 ABAC City Campus was inaugurated at the Emporium Tower on Sukhumvit Road. In 2007, the Campus was relocated to the 14th Fl., of ZEN @ Central World.

2005 School of Music was established with two departments: Music Business and Music Performance. 2007 Bang Na Campus was renamed Suvarnabhumi Campus. 2009 AU celebrated her 40th Anniversary. 2010-2013 AU was granted “Trusted Brand Award” for the third time in a row as a reputable and most trusted private university through the surveys conducted by Reader’s Digest Magazine.

2015 AU opened the 13th Confucius Institute in Thailand at Suvarnabhumi Campus. 2018 ABAC JOURNAL Won NRCT Grant 2018. 2019 AU is celebrating her 50th Anniversary.
