One day, I stumbled across an old tome from a mysterious and forgotten land. Its pages were filled with tales of mythical creatures, strange lands, and magical powers. I couldn't believe my eyes. I was so excited that I could barely contain myself. I spent the next few weeks reading the book and dreaming of a world where I would fit and be accepted. Finally, one night, I decided to take a chance and escape my familiar world into the mythical place I had been reading about. I closed my eyes and imagined myself in the strange land and, suddenly, I felt a warm breeze on my skin. When I opened my eyes, I found herself in a lush and vibrant forest. I marveled at the beauty and felt a sense of peace wash over my body. I spent the next several months exploring the magical land and learning more about its strange creatures and customs. WHISPERS OF ENCHANTMENT: A BEAUTIFUL ISLAND OF SECRETS Drawn by Lean Evora 75 Gwyneth Galang
I found myself ashore. Surrounded by the island's breathtaking beauty, the clear water and white sands left me amazed. I was captivated by the forests, filled with tall trees and colorful plants, waterfalls and caves waiting for me to explore. “This is paradise”, I thought as the light from the approaching sunset hit my skin. Charmed with its beauty, I decided to venture further into the island. But as the night came, a different aura seeped into the air. The seemingly gentle breeze turned cold, and strange sounds were carried by the rustling leaves. The thick air seemed to follow me until I came across a hidden cave. It had altars and cryptic symbols, making me realize that I had stepped into a realm of black magic. An icy sensation immediately crawled up my spine as the winds blew harder and the sounds whispered harsher. Afraid, I ran as fast as I could, stumbling in the darkness until I stumbled upon a signage. \"Welcome to Siquijor,\" that was the moment I realized, I was stranded in the Philippine's island of dark magic. by Gwyneth Galang 76
UNVEILING REALMS, SEAKERS OUTSTRIP KNOWING POSSIBILITIES drawn by Lean Evora 77
As darkness descended upon Pagsanghan town during our staycation trip with friends, I ambled toward our rented abode one star-flecked evening when an unexpected flash blinded me momentarily in mid- stride. Of course, feeling startled by this phenomenon enveloping all around except for those ambient sounds caused by crickets' songs mixed with eerie tree limbs groaning under sporadic zephyrs whispering mysteries through them, led me firmer ahead towards the luminescence. As I focused my sights, I beheld a preternatural cityscape composed of towering structures that resembled sanctuaries. This wondrous city seemed to rise from the depths of nothingness to the skies above, where it met a shroud of thunderclouds. The night had never felt so alive, and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of wonder and excitement. A feeling of enchantment encompassed me as I found myself lost within the lost city of Biringan. by Lheynie Rose Pose 78

Drawn by Reden M. Luya WHISPERS OF THE UNKNOWN INHABITANTS by Gabrielle Hernandez One day, a brave young man named Crisanto decided to break away from his family and explore the provinces. In his journey, he soon encountered mythical and magical creatures that surround the provinces. In towns of Batangas, an incredible creature like wild horses who could walk. It is a humanoid figure with long limbs. It resembles the head and tail of any normal horse with thick and dark fur. Another creature is that it seemed to be a small kangaroo with dark red flaming eyes and flapping huge ears was found in Capiz. It walked backwards around the darkness of the forest as Crisanto explores. It was often described as a creature who loves to hunt hearts not from animals, but specifically from children with fresh and bloody flesh. As Crisanto's curiosity grew even more, he encountered the forest goddess located in the deep and dark forests of Davao. 84
Crisanto saw a beautiful and pure young lady with a flowery dress and shimmering crown bowed and highly respected by animals. These creatures are either angels or vengeful to those who cross against their territories. Meanwhile in northern Luzon, Ilocos Norte, other creatures that Crisanto saw are the ones that live in deep seas, it aims to shape shift to someone or something magical and mysterious that would catch its prey. It commonly targets fishermen and weak- hearted sea visitors. It was said that this creature would typically attack during the dark and play around its victims until they get manipulated and hypnotized with its pretty scales and tales. The last creature that Crisanto has seen is the tall giants with feet that looked like tree trunks. It lives in huge and tall trees like acacias. He saw its huge cigarettes and how it smokes. With their bushy and long hair, with their red and huge eyes that creepily watch over the darkness that covers the forests. They are said to be playful around children or young ladies that they find attractive. It is said that they could perform courtship by guarding their prey. Through it all, Crisanto remained brave and did not shy away from the unknown. 85
As he journeyed on, he encountered more unbelievable sites and creatures. After days of travel, his fear of the unknown began to dissipate. He realized that his most powerful tool was his own courage. Facing danger head on and trusting his instincts allowed him to disrupt the unknown and overcome his fear. Crisanto eventually came to a city at the edge of the place. Its brightly colored buildings, friendly people, and inviting atmosphere were all strange yet familiar to him. With a sense of accomplishment and gratitude, he understood that his journey into the unknown had led him to a place of solace and safety. It made him realize that living in unfamiliarity leads to greater things beyond what he is used to. Even after his journey ended, Crisanto never forgot the courage and perseverance he mustered while disrupting the unknown. As he set out to explore other mythical places around the province, he did so with the same bravery that allowed him to overcome his fear once and live with wisdom. 86
Drawn by Reden M. Luya ENCHANTED PARADISE VISITING SIQUIJOR'S BEWITCHING BEAUTY AND HIDDEN WONDERS by Gwyneth Galang Gregorio, the story's main portrayal, had little tolerance for superstition as he was a man of science and reason. Until he received a letter from an old family inviting him to visit the mysterious island of Siquijor. Gregorio was cautious of visiting Siquijor because of its reputation for black magic and tales of mysterious monsters. There have also been stories about disappearing individuals, which made him uncomfortable with the idea of going to the island. But he was intrigued. He had been promised by the longtime family to see something incredible that would erase all of his suspicions regarding supernatural events. He chose to take the chance. What could go wrong in going to a place where mere folks live? Gregorio decided to let go of the stereotype and just go. 87
Gregorio walked off the ship onto the shores of Siquijor as the sun setting over the horizon. He was thrilled about witnessing the mysterious dark magic that this island was renowned for because he had heard so many stories about it, despite the fear that comes with it. He took a stroll around the town, admiring its unusual buildings and the intriguing smells. He looked about for the old family to show him the Siquijor's mystical wonders, but as he asked for directions, all he received in return were odd stares and muttering. This made Gregorio feel unwelcomed, and he wonders if it was the right decision to go to the island. Late at night, Gregorio arrived in Siquijor. The longtime family met him as he strolled and he was welcomed hospitably. He took Gregorio to a tiny cottage on the beach, where he enlightened Gregorio about the island's dark secrets. In this conversation, he told Gregorio about the tales of the unnatural events and mysterious disappearances that had happened in the past. Gregorio listened closely despite his fear as he wished to comprehend and ease his worries. Then the old acquaintance took him to a cave close by where a sizable stone tablet covered with prehistoric script was found inside the cave, as well as altars that seemed chilling. It was proof that supernatural elements exist in the place, and it was more real than he could imagine. Gregorio thought that all the antiques were creepy, making sure to not touch or involve himself with anything in the cave. He left the place shocked, starting to regret his decision of visiting the island. 88
Gregorio ran. He was running till he couldn’t breathe. His heart raced, sweat dripping down his face. The air was thick, the rustling leaves around him so unusual. He found himself trapped in Siquijor’s web of dark magic. His feet pounded on the sand as he started to run again. He continued to run despite feeling as though his lungs were about to break down. He needed to leave the island and the evil sorcery that showed up everywhere, it seems as though Gregorio couldn't run away from it no matter how far he runs. He finally arrived somewhere safe after a seemingly never-ending chase. He got so tired out that he fell on the beach. He had succeeded. He was secured. But then something held his feet -- Gregorio woke up in a shocked manner. Turns out, he was dreaming. The old acquaintance greeted him with a smile. Seemingly understanding Gregorio’s situation, he only gave him a smile. After having breakfast and getting ready for the day, the longtime family advised him to visit the island's stunning natural surroundings if he wanted to truly understand it. The man led him outside as he still seems to be in shock with his nightmare. 89
Gregorio followed, and they set off to explore the island. He was in awe with Siquijor's pretty forests, beautiful waterfalls, and bright coral reefs. He was also amazed to discover how friendly many of the residents were. Turns out, they couldn't understand his language, explaining why he only received stares and muttering the first time he came to the island. The sun started to set when the two decided to climb one of the hills in the place. Up there is where Gregorio realized that regret is the last thing, he should feel for coming to the island. The sky was painted with a breathtaking color. The little island of Siquijor was covered in a gentle, orange-hued light that made the island glow even more. Gregorio was awestruck with what he experienced. Each part of Siquijor was gorgeous, from the beaches' clear waters to the beautiful views on the roads. Gregorio spent the following days discovering the island and was captivated by its beauty. He soon understood that Siquijor was more than just a haven of black magic, sorcery was not the definition of Siquijor; it was also a breathtakingly beautiful paradise: a place to be proud of, not to be afraid of. 90
Shot by John Prillway Empe BEYOND A HERO’S DREAM by Michael Angelo Amantillo In the small coastal town of El Nido, Palawan, lived a young boy named Caspian. Caspian had always been captivated by the stories of heroes and their outrageous adventures since he was a small boy. Every night, when he lay in bed, he would visualize himself as a valiant hero setting off on great adventures and visiting distant regions. His favorite tales included adventurers who uncovered hidden wealth and revealed the mysteries of unexplored lands. Caspian was transported by his dreams to the stunning island of Palawan, where he found himself in the center of a heroic quest. He was a brave adventurer in his dream, prepared to take on any challenge that came his way. With a map, a compass to guide him, and a strong sense of purpose, he went out to discover the secrets of the island. His voyage began at El Nido's alluring beaches. He was enthralled by the golden beaches, the beautiful seas, and the sheer limestone cliffs. In his dream, Caspian came across multiple individuals in need of help. 91
They talked of a fabled treasure that was said to be buried far beneath the island's impenetrable woods. With his heart filled with excitement, Caspian concurred to help them in their quest. Together, they traversed the green jungles while taking in the melody of strange birds and the rustle of leaves. They came into legendary creatures from Palawan folklore along the journey, including the diwata, beautiful fairies reputed to guard the island's secrets. They respected Caspian for his determination and fortitude, and they gave him their blessings for his adventure. As they went further into the jungle, Caspian's companions revealed the secrets of ancient cave systems, said to hold the key to revealing the treasure's whereabouts. Caspian was led by their knowledge as he made his way through the shadowy, strange caverns, conquering challenges with steadfast will. As the group's chosen hero, he felt the weight of that obligation, and that drive to succeed motivated him. Caspian faced various difficulties in his dream. He came upon dangerous cliffs that needed him to show off his power and agility. He navigated turbulent rivers by building temporary bridges because of his creativity. Even in the face of hardship, he remained steadfast because he was motivated by the conviction that his mission was significant. After several days of searching and dedication, they eventually found a secret space tucked away deep underneath Palawan. 92
Caspian found the long-lost treasure of ancient knowledge and wisdom in this spot, not gold or jewellery. The treasure represented the cultural heritage and traditions of the people of Palawan, a legacy that needed to be preserved and shared with the world. Caspian discovered that he had been granted a unique talent when he awoke from his dream—the power of inspiration. The dream had given him the conviction that everyone could be a hero, that anyone could go out on a personal quest for knowledge, and that anyone might influence the course of time. By educating people about Palawan's history, culture, and natural beauty, he believed he was paying tribute to the island's soul. Caspian dedicated himself to learning about the past, present, and folklore of Palawan, driven by his desire. He developed into a storyteller, mesmerizing audiences with his stories of adventure, heroes, and lost riches. He encouraged people to follow their ambitions and set off on their own explorations through his stories. Years later, as he stood on the sands of El Nido, educating tourists from all over the globe about the beauties of Palawan, Caspian's dream came true. He had realized his childhood ambition of becoming a hero who would uphold the rich traditions of Palawan and celebrate the spirit of exploration and adventure. And as the sun set over the azure sea, Caspian knew that his journey was barely starting. Palawan will always have a special place in his heart because it was a place where heroes were created and where dreams come true. 93
