ABOUT THE AWARDSThe JAA Australasian Jewellery Awards celebrate and recognise design, innovation, craftsmanship and marketabilityin the jewellery industry. They are the ultimate industry awards that reward creativity, skill and technique - the mostdistinguished program for the Australasian jewellery community.Demonstrating both craftsmanship and design skills are vital to succeeding as a jewellery designer. Many designersare inspired by an emotional event and often the design begins with a story and ends with a piece of jewellery thatcan be kept forever. However, to be a superior jewellery artist, designers must be technically skilled and have theability to work with precious metals and gemstones. In the 24th running of the biennial Awards there were several important developments. The Contemporary/ non-Precious Award was introduced to include jewellers and designers who do not work with traditional materials ortechniques. The Colour Category was also expanded to include pearl and opal and continued to be our mostpopular entry category. This Awards program, a $10,000 opportunity was bestowed upon the Association as custodian from an anonymousbenefactor. The amount was awarded to a student or apprentice entrant who showed promise and drive inadvancing their career in the jewellery industry. The Association thanks the anonymous benefactor for allowing us tosupport up-and-coming talent in our young generationAll entrants' pieces appear in this publication. The overall winner will receive a trip to the Hong Kong InternationalJewellery Show in March 2018 and  will be entered into the International Champion of Champion competition. In his position as President of the Jewellers Association, Roy Samuel Worfold founded the JAA Design Awards in1968, and established a program to honour designers for their artistry an excellence. The late Roy Worfold ishonoured through the Roy Worfold Perpetual Trophy which is awarded to the Jeweller of the Year.  JEWELLERS OF THE YEAR 2014 2012 2010 2008Rhys Turner Martyn Brown and Emily Snadden Thomas Meihofer and Martin Linning Stacey Illman 4
