Annie Kenney Memorial Unveiling December 2018 Students covered the unveiling of Oldham’s Annie Kenney memorial statue. The date marks the centenary of the first time women could vote. The artist Stan Chow, actors Maxine Peake, Julie Hesmondhalghm, Joyce Brannah and Amy Gavin, attended as did members of Annie’s extended family. The unveiling was organised by the Director of Oldham Theatre Workshop in conjunction with Oldham’s Town Centre Management team.
Mayors Visit to Photography Degree Course February 2019 The Mayor of Oldham visited the BA Honours Photography Degree course and spoke with students The mayor told students about his love for photography and how he started out in a home-made dark room developing his own black and white film and making contact sheets.
The Mayor gave advice and inspiration to students to develop their passion and to make sure they always carry a camera with them because he said there is no off switch for a photographer
Illuminate Festival Oldham February 2019 Photography students from University Campus Oldham BA Honours Photography and Digital Image were on location for the town-wide Illuminate festival parade, a carnival procession of light from Gallery Oldham to the Old Town Hall, led by Global Grooves and a sea of handmade community lanterns. Students from year one and two of the course spread out across the venues to cover the event from all angles. Photographs were taken at the Old Town Hall which was transformed with an amazing light spectacular, Oldham Parish Church’s Celestial Sound Cloud, Gallery Oldham and Parliament Square.
