Google DocsWhat is it ● Usual microsoft office apps in google form ● Creates online documents with multiple authors ● Immediately updates and saves ● Easily shared content (esp in google doc format) ● Can be accessed through app for easy contribution ● Can be edited at the same time by multiple authors ● Final forms can be downloaded
Pros ● Distinct environment from facebook and moodle. Can feel like a specific and professional project ● Develop digital literacy - students learning to use multiple platforms as likely in employment ● Collaborative technologies - students learning how to collaborate remotely, fitting work into busy schedules ● Easy access from phone - encourages participation ● Document of contribution or engagement from students (for assessment purposes and transparency for external examiner) ● Easy to share a range of content (audio, docs, video etc)
Cons ● Students take time to adapt to new technology- can be initial resistance ● Need to encourage students to participate so it feels ‘live’ rather than a tutor message board ● Easy access can mean phone typing/ rushed response and lack of professional care over communication ● Some students struggle to access (lack of data, internet etc)
Overview Google Platforms Works well for group based or project based work where file or link sharing is prominent Useful to promote discussion between students that is visible to you Develop sense of professionalism in working practices (communicate appropriately etc)
