In the modules, we have five sections like Vocabulary, Grammar, Language in Use, Formal writing and Creative writing. But Module -6, as this is the module of poem, in this module we have only one section i.e. Vocabulary. So, let us see what we are going to learn in this Module- 6 with the help of different concepts. 1.Vocabulary – In this section we are going to learn ‘Synonyms’. Here we have seen the concept of the Module. Now let’s move towards the ‘Gist of the Module -6’. Class: V Subject: English Ms.Naazneen Shaikh

As you all know that our first section is ‘Vocabulary’, so let’s understand about what is vocabulary? Vocabulary is the most important skill to learn any language. It is the key to communicate successfully with other people. A good vocabulary improves all areas of communication- Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. So, in our module, this is the first concept. Under this concept we are going to learn, Dear Students, let’s understand what are synonyms. Class: V Subject: English Ms.Naazneen Shaikh

*What are synonyms? Synonyms are words that have the exact or almost exact meaning as another word in the same language. Or Synonyms are words or groups of words that have the same or similar meanings. For this reason, synonyms can be interchangeable with other words. Interchangeable means that you can easily switch out one thing for another. Let's look at an example of how synonyms work. Look at the sentence: • I had a great birthday party last year. We want to use another word instead of the word 'great.' Can you think of some other words that mean exactly or almost exactly the same thing as 'great?' 'fantastic,' which is a synonym for the word 'great.' Now the sentence will read: • I had a fantastic birthday party last year. The words 'rich' and 'wealthy' are another example. When they are interchanged in the same sentence, they give the same meaning. A word may have more than one synonyms. Ex. Happy, Cheerful, Joyful. Let’s have a glance on more examples of synonyms. There are four major domains of the Earth- Lithosphere, Atmosphere, Hydrosphere and Biosphere. The solid portion of the earth is called Lithosphere. The large land masses are known as continents. All continents lie in lithosphere. There are seven continents. Asia is the largest continent and Australia is the smallest continent. Australia is called an island continent. The part of the earth which is covered with water is called Hydrosphere- The Pacific Ocean, The Atlantic Ocean, The Indian Ocean, The Southern Ocean and The Arctic Ocean. The Pacific Ocean is the largest ocean. The earth is surrounded by a layer of gases called the atmosphere. There are five layers in the atmosphere.
