RAINBOW CLASS VII LESSON – 2 THE HOLY GANGA The Ganga is our National River. गिंगा हमारी राष्ट्रीय नदी है। It is one of the world heritages. यह दतु नया की सांिस्कृ तिक धरोहरों मंे से एक है। The Ganga is the lifeline of India and one of the most important rivers of our country. गिंगा भारि की जीवनरेखा और सिसे महत्वपिू स नददयों में से एक है। It is considered sacred and worshipped as Goddess Ganga. इसे पववत्र देवी गिंगा के रूप में पजू ा जािा है। The Ganga begins its journey from Gomukh. गिंगा गोमखु से अपनी यात्रा शरु ू करिी है। Gomukh is a cave made of ice in the Himalayas. गोमखु दहमालय में िफस से िनी एक गफु ा है। The ice melts, and the water flows out as a tiny stream. िफस वपघलने से पानी एक छोटी धारा के रूप मंे िहिा है। As the Ganga flows down the mountains more and more little streams join her. जैस-े जसै े गगंि ा पहाड़ों की ओर िहिी जािी है, वसै े-वसै े िहुि सी छोटी धाराएाँ उससे जड़ु िी जािी हैं। Thus, the Ganga becomes bigger and bigger. इस प्रकार गिगं ा िड़ी होिी जािी है। It flows down the mountains very fast. यह िहुि िजे ी से पहाड़ों से नीचे िहिी है। It becomes wider and wider as it reaches the plains. मदै ानी इलाकों में पहुाँचिे-पहुाँचिे यह ववशाल होिी जािी है। It reaches the plains at Haridwar. हररद्वार में गिंगा, मदै ानों में पहुाँचिी है। In the plains it flows through many villages and towns of India. मदै ानी इलाकों मंे यह भारि के कई गावाँ ों और कस्िों से होकर िहिी है। On both the sides of the River Ganga there are green fields. नदी के दोनों क्रकनारों पर हरे भरे खिे हैं। Many big rivers join the Ganga in the plains. कई िड़ी नददयाँा मदै ानी इलाकों मंे गंिगा में लमलिी हैं। The Yamuna and the Saraswati meet the Ganga at Allahabad. यमनु ा और सरस्विी इलाहािाद (प्रयागराज) मंे गंिगा से लमलिी हंै। UP BOARD CLASS VII RAINBOW TRANSLATION AND SOLVED EXERCISES

RAINBOW CLASS VII LESSON – 3 SANJAY THE BRAVE BOY Sanjay was a student of class 7. सिंजय सािवींि कक्षा का छात्र ा। He lived with his parents in the village, Shantipur. वह शातंि िपरु गावँा में अपने मािा-वपिा के सा रहिा ा। He had lost one of his legs in an accident. एक दघु टस ना में उसने एक परै खो ददया ी। He always felt that everyone looked at his leg and laughed at the way he walked. उसे हमशे ा लगिा की सभी लोग उसके कटे परै को देख उसके चलने के िरीके पर हाँसिे ।े So he always tried to avoid people. इसललए वह हमेशा लोगों से िचने की कोलशश करिा ा। (One morning when Sanjay did not get up, his mother woke him up.) (एक सिु ह जि सजिं य सो कर नहींि उठा, िो उसकी माँा ने उसे उठाया।) Mother : Wake up Sanjay! You are getting late. माँा – उठो सजिं य! िुम्हे देर हो रही है। Sanjay : Mother, I don’t want to go to school. सजंि य – माँा, मैं स्कू ल नहींि जाना चाहिा। Mother : Why Sanjay? मााँ – तयों संिजय? Sanjay : I feel neglected maa. My schoolmates don’t like my company. माँा मझु े लगिा है क्रक मेरे सहपाठी मझु े पसंदि नहीिं करि,े मझु े नज़रअंिदाज़ करिे हंै। Mother : My dear child, you are a strong boy. मााँ – मरे े प्यारे िच्च,े िमु साहसी लड़के हो। Don’t lose heart. इस िरह दहम्मि मि हारो। You have so many good qualities. िमु ्हारे अन्दर िहुि से अच्छे गुि हंै। A day will come when everyone will praise you. एक ददन आएगा जि सभी िमु ्हारी प्रशंिसा करंेगे। Sanjay : (half heartedly) Okay mother. I’ll go. संिजय – (िेमन से) ठीक है मााँ। मंै जाऊँा गा। Sanjay walked slowly to the school. RAINBOW CLASS VII As he entered the school, he tottered and fell down. स्कू ल मंे प्रवशे करिे समय वह लड़खड़ाकर थगर गया। (अि जैसे आप सि भी करिे हंै, कोई आपके सामने थगर जािा है िो आप उसे देखिे हंै और हाँसने लगिे हंै वसै े ही वो सि भी िच्चे ही े) He noticed that the children were staring at him. उसने देखा की िच्चे उसे घरू रहे हैं। Suddenly they burst into laughter. अचानक, वे ठहाके मारकर हँासने लगे। He felt miserable. उसने खदु को असहाय पाया। He thought of his mother’s words. He chinned up and went to the class. अपनी मााँ के शब्दों को याद कर वह अपना सर ऊँा चा उठा कक्षा मंे चला गया। (माँा के शब्द याद कर उसे िहुि दहम्मि लमली) During the break he tried to talk to Amit who sat beside him. (लचिं ब्रके ) मध्यावकाश के दौरान उसने अपने पास िठै े अलमि से िाि करने की कोलशश की। “Your watch is very nice Amit”, he said, but Amit turned away towards Vipin. उसने कहा, “िमु ्हारी घड़ी िहुि अच्छी है अलमि”, पर अलमि वववपन की ओर मड़ु गया। Amit pretended not to have heard him. अलमि ने उसे न सनु ने का नाटक क्रकया। Sanjay moved closer to Amit so that he could be heard easily. सिंजय अलमि के और पास आया िाक्रक अलमि उसे आसानी से सनु सके । Sanjay : Hey Amit, which is your favourite game? Do you like swimming? सिंजय – अलमि, िुम्हारा पसिदं ीदा खेल कौन सा है? तया िुम्हें िरै ाकी पसिंद है? Amit : (without looking at him) Yes, I like swimming. अलमि – (बिना उसकी िरफ देखे) हा,ाँ मझु े िैराकी पसदंि है। Sanjay : I also like swimming. सिजं य – मझु े भी िैराकी पसिंद है। (Suddenly everyone stopped talking and looked at him.) (अचानक सिने िाि करना िदंि कर ददया और उसकी िरफ देखने लग।े ) Arun : (in disbelief) Do you know how to swim? अरूि – (हैरानी स)े तया िुम िरै ना जानिे हो? (All the students started laughing.) RAINBOW CLASS VII When he reached home that day, at once his mother came to know that something had gone wrong. उस ददन उसके घर पहुाँचिे ही उसकी मााँ समझ गई, कु छ िो गलि हुआ है। Mother : What happened son? Why are you so upset? मााँ – तया हुआ िटे ा? िुम इिने परेशान तयों हो? Sanjay : I will never go to school again. सजंि य – मंै अि कभी स्कू ल नहींि जाऊँा गा। The students are not friendly with me. िच्चे मेरे सा (दोस्िी नहीिं करि)े लमलनसार नहीिं है। They don’t even share anything with me. न ही मेरे सा कु छ भी िाटँा ना चाहिे हैं। Mother : Don’t get upset son. माँा – िेटा परेशान न हो। Be friendly with them and very soon things will change. उनके सा लमत्रिा पिू स व्यवहार रखोगे िो िहुि जल्द हालाि िदल जाएँागे। The next morning, when Sanjay was going to school, he saw a girl drowning in the canal near the school. अगली सिु ह जि सजिं य स्कू ल जा रहा ा, िो उसने स्कू ल के पास की नहर मंे एक लड़की को डू ििे देखा। He immediately offered his crutch to the girl. उसने िरु ंिि ही अपनी िसै ाखी लड़की को दी। She held it. लड़की ने उसे (िसै ाखी) पकड़ ललया । The flow of the water was rapid. पानी का िहाव िहुि िज़े ा। After trying hard, he could pull her to the bank. िहुि कोलशश करने के िाद (िड़ी मकु ्श्कल से) वह लड़की को क्रकनारे िक खींचि पाया। Sanjay was astonished when he saw the face of the girl he rescued. जि सजिं य ने उस लड़की (क्जसको उसने िचाया ा) का चहे रा देखा िो वो आश्चयचस क्रकि रह गया। She was Amit’s sister, Rita. वह अलमि की िहन रीिा ी। By then many people had gathered. इिनी देर मे वहाँा िहुि से लोग इकट्ठा हो चकु े ।े Everyone was praising Sanjay. सभी सजंि य की िारीफ कर रहे ।े UP BOARD CLASS VII RAINBOW TRANSLATION AND SOLVED EXERCISES

RAINBOW CLASS VII The next day when he reached the school, the students were standing in a queue and were clapping for him. अगले ददन जि वह स्कू ल पहुाँचा, ववद्या ी एक किार में खड़े उसके ललए िाललयाँा िजा रहे ।े Every student wanted to talk and shake hands with him. हर ववद्या ी उससे िाि करना और हा लमलाना चाहिा ा। Meanwhile, Amit came to him and said- इसी िीच, अलमि उसके पास आया और िोला- Amit : I am sorry, please forgive me for my misbehaviour. अलमि – मैं क्षमाप्रा ी हूँा , कृ पया मेरे िरु े व्यवहार के ललए मझु े माफ़ कर दो। Sanjay : It's okay. You are my friend. Don’t feel sorry. सिजं य –ठीक है (अरे दोस्िी में िो ऐसा होिा ही रहिा है) िुम मेरे दोस्ि हो, इसललए इस प्रकार से दखु ी मि हो। In the morning assembly, the principal of the school called Sanjay onto the stage. Sanjay stepped forward confidently onto the stage to accept the ‘Bravery Award’ of the year from the principal. RAINBOW CLASS VII They could see the waves of the sea rising higher and higher. वे समदु ्र की लहरों को ऊँा चे और ऊाँ चे उठिे हुए देख सकिे े । It was late in the evening. शाम िढ चली ी/ शाम ढल रही ी। The cyclone had hit the area! चिवाि क्षते ्र में आ चकू ा ा। It had been raining continuously. लगािार िाररश हो रही ी। Flood water had already entered Gayatri’s house. िाढ का पानी गायत्री के घर में घसु चकु ा ा। She had placed all the small household items like food, articles, utensils, candles and matchboxes on beds, tables and chairs. उसने घर के सभी छोटे-छोटे सामान जसै े खाना, सामान/सामग्री, ििनस ,मोमिवत्तयााँ और माथचस की डडक्ब्ियों को बिस्िर, मजे और कु लसयस ों पर रख ददया ा। (िाक्रक उन्हें पानी में िराि होने से िचा सके ) By the morning a lot of water had entered the house. सिु ह होने िक घर मंे काफी पानी आ/भर गया ा। After an uncomfortable night, Gayatri went to her terrace and looked around. एक असहज/असवु वधाजनक/कष्ट्टकारी राि के िाद, (सिु ह हो चकु ी ी) गायत्री अपनी छि पर गई और चारों ओर देखा। The entire area was submerged in water. परू ा क्षेत्र/इलाका पानी मंे डू ि गया ा। Only a few houses could be seen. लसफस कु छ घर ही नज़र आ रहे ।े The little huts near her house could not be seen due to floods. िाढ (मंे डू िन)े के कारि उसके घर के पास की छोटी-छोटी झोपडड़याँा ददखाई नहीिं दे रही ी।िं The homeless people were sitting on tree stumps and at other places which were not submerged. िघे र लोग पेड़ की ऊाँ ची डाललयों और अन्य ऐसी जगहों पर िठै े े जो डू िे नहीिं े। Gayatri thought that she should do something. गायत्री ने सोचा क्रक उसे कु छ करना चादहए। She swam towards the boat lying outside her house. वह िरै कर अपने घर के िाहर पड़ी नाव की ओर गई। She rowed powerfully towards the marooned people. अपनी परू ी शक्ति से चप्पू चला वह नाव असहाय/फंि से हुए लोगो की ओर के गई । She helped them board the boat and rowed to the town hall.
