Issue 6 - Sep 2020 Christ The King Knanaya Catholic Church, New Jersey Inside this Issue 67 Fitch St, Carteret, NJ 07008 - Pastor's Desk Pastor's Desk - Welcoming Fr. Bins - Church 2nd Anniversary May the grace of our Lord be with you all. - Nativity of The Blessed For the last 2 years, Mother Mary of St. Mary's Knanaya Catholic Church Chicago made me walk with her by Virgin Mary holding her hands. Now that mother has appointed me - Mother Teresa into the house of Christ The King. In the name of Christ - Religious Education the King, Knanaya Catholic Church of New Jersey is the one where my Lord has made to walk into for the further services. First, I would like to thank God almighty, also I would like to remember and thank Fr Renny Kattel for being the vicar of this parish for 8 years and also working with everyone for the full success and as of a great supporter and motivator towards the good establishment of the parish. Now it's going to be a start off journey with me for all of us together. I need each one of yours support, trust and more than that the love and prayers towards me, for accomplishing all the great wishes from Christ the King, and also for making this small parish as a great one with more holiness. In this situation let us all work together and hold our hands together in prayer for future accomplishments. As a part of remembrance of Onam, we all malayalees will have one thing which comes to our mind as first thing on hearing about onam which is nothing else than, the different types of flowers and colorful designs with bunch of flowers that makes the most attractive forms and styles for the festival. In the same way, in our parish too there may be so many people from different places, and will have different character and likes and dislikes for everyone, but as I said when the variety of flowers comes together they make the best one of them. As such we all should come together and make our parish same as the, attractive bunch of flowers. Therefore, don't go away from making this bunch of flowers, always be in them as attractive ones, as an outcome we all can make ours the most beautiful parish. For that we all should work together, in house of Divine let us all be in them. This month September our parish is celebrating, the 2nd anniversary of our church. In this time, I thank all those who have been a part of the success of our parish, also the people who all worked hard for making our parish more divine. It is TRUE that only because of hard works and prayers of many our parish, Christ The King is standing up as most holy. As we all know we are starting with our catechism classes for this year. Before starting, I encourage all the parents to let your kids keep in the path of Lord Almighty and also let them know the importance of catechism by making the home filled with more holiness and divine and encourage our kids in developing a spiritual relationship with God. Let the God Almighty bless us and support us this year, while celebrating the 2nd anniversary of our church with many good developments and goal accomplishments. Let us all start our journey by holding the hands of Christ the King. - Fr.Bins Chethalil
We the Parishioners of New Jersey Christ the King Knanaya Catholic Church warmly and whole heartedly welcome our new Parish Priest, Pastor Rev. Fr. Bins Chethalil to our Parish. The Church is very honored to have Fr. Bins as our new Parish Priest. Both for the Priest and for the people it is time of change. As the main purpose of our existence is to keep our faith in God alive, we fully believe in Fr. Bins ability to make us grow further in that faith. A good approach to the time of change is patience, generosity and kindness. During this transition time the appropriate welcome would be kindness, and to help the Priest in any way possible. We are blessed with a good Priest who could be a role model and someone we can look up to. Working together, we can build a strong Parish Community where all feel welcome and inspired by the Gospel to live God’s mission with faith, hope and love. As said earlier, let us remember that a Pastor is the only person in the Parish who can make everyone happy. As always let us keep praying for our Priest every day. - Alex Nedumthuruthil (PRO) OUR CHURCH 2nd Anniversary As we approach the second anniversary of the inauguration of our church -Christ the King Knanaya Catholic Church of New Jersey, I want to take a moment to reflect on the events of the past two years as we look forward to the future. On September 15th, 2018, a long-time dream came true for our community. God answered our prayers and granted us with our beautiful church. It was the culmination of many years of hard work and ardent prayers of all the parishioners as well as the strong leadership of Fr.RennyKattel. In the past two years, our church has grown in spirituality and unity. Parents, children, and youth have all been active in their ministries. Many holidays and events were celebrated joyously in our new church, with everyone’s enthusiastic participation. In 2020, we were faced with the global corona virus pandemic, and in a difficult situation, our church showed true strength and faith in God. Although we had to be physically distant from each other, we remained spiritually united through live-stream masses and mutual prayer. In these difficult times, our church was our anchor in the storm. Our parish priest Fr. Renny was also a stronghold for all of us for many years. He served our church with a selfless heart, and the accomplishments of the last two years would have been impossible without him. We are all going to miss his presence in New Jersey, but we are also looking forward to the future. With open hearts, we welcome Fr. Bins to our parish as the new leader of our New Jersey family. In the coming years, I look forward to seeing our church continue to grow and flourish. We have seen our youth of our parish take active leadership in the past two years, and I look forward to seeing how they will pave the way for future generations. May God continue to bless Christ the King Knanaya Catholic Church. - Shaji Vemmelil
Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Blessed Virgin Mary is the holiest of God’s creations. She was mentioned in God’s first promise to send a redeemer, “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel,” (Genesis 3:15). Prophet Isaiah wrote about the Virgin Mother as a sign of the birth of Jesus the savior, “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel,” (Isaiah 7:14). She was born by Immaculate Conception and without sin. God, the most holy, chose her for the incarnation of his beloved son. Angel Gabriel addressed her “full of grace,” and she humbled herself and replied “behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it done to me according to thy word.” She stood by Jesus from Bethlehem to Calvary, and at his death hedeclared Mary as the mother of all mankind. At her death, she was assumed body and soul into heaven and glorified as Queen of Heaven and Earth. She is our heavenly mother. We rejoice that the mother of God is our mother too. Honoring her will be pleasing to God and praising her will be joyful to our hearts. The Feast of Nativity of Mary is celebrated on September 8th. It is one of the three birthdays celebrated in the Church, along with John the Baptist and Jesus’, who were also born without sin. The September date was chosen because the Eastern Churchstarts its church year in September. This date falls exactly nine months after the Immaculate Conception. In Canon scriptures, there are no writings of Mary’s birth. The earliest known account of Mary’s birth is found in an Apocryphal gospel written by James in the late second century. There have been many accounts of revelations about the birth of Mary throughout history. The Church of Angers in France claims that St. Maurilius started the feast because of a man’s vision of angels rejoicing over the birth of the Virgin on September 8th. Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich had visions of the Virgin Mother’s life, including her birth. In the book The Poem of the Man-God, the Italian writer, Maria Valtorta (1897-1967), documented her visions about Mary’s birth. The birth of Mary is important because her willingness to serve God has a great role in the salvation history. Birthdays are celebrated to thank God for the gift of life He gave to each one of us. We thank God by honoring Virgin Mary on her birthday as she is Jesus’ gift to all mankind. St. Augustine connects her birth to Jesus’saving work, “She is the flower of the field from whom bloomed the precious lily of the valley. Through her birth the nature inherited from our first parents is changed.” The best gift we can give the Blessed Mother on her birthday is our devotion to Jesus and our willingness to serve God. “Mother of divine grace, pray for us” - Jancy Vaipel
Saint Mother Teresa “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love”(Saint Mother Teresa). Saint Mother Teresa is a familiar saint for each and every one of us and is known as Saint Teresa of Calcutta, Saint of the Poor or The Angel of Mercy. Her beautiful smile, kind heart, and humbleness are characteristics that always come into our mind. She is a very special saint for us as she especially cared for the poor in India. She cared for the poor, orphans, and people who were considered untouchable in the society. She saw the face of God in everyone while caring for others, spending time with those in need and showed us acts that could make differences in others. We celebrate the feast of St. Mother Theresa on September 5th. This year while celebrating the feast of St. Mother Teresa, we can remember our families, friends, and people in need. It is a great time to pray for the whole world and offer a helping hand for each other. As Mother Teresa says, “Help one person at a time and always start with the person nearest to you”. When we think about helping someone we always think about someone far away who needs help, but if we look around ourselves we can find many in need. Anything simple as smiling at someone can be the greatest gift to offer, that can even bring a change. The Bible says, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ (Matthew 25:40). Jesus teaches us that whatever we do for others will be counted as done for him. She has not only inspired us by her words, but she was also a living example for the whole world. She is still alive in our hearts through her actions and memories that she left behind. Therefore, we should follow the path of St. Mother Teresa and be that person who makes a difference. -Neethu Thomas Muthalupidiyil
Welcome Back Dear Parents, Welcome back to our Religious Education Program! We are looking forward to another wonderful year, working with you to help share our beautiful Catholic faith with your children. To ensure your child receives the most from this program, it is imperative that parents, catechists and the Parish Catechetical Leader all work together as a team. Our catechists / teachers will do their best to make their time spent with kids as interesting and inspiring as possible. We will do our best to teach the lessons, introduce saints & bible stories to them, pray with them and involve them in activities that will build their faith. This cannot be done without you. What you do and say as Catholic parents is far more important and will teach your child far more than we can in that short hour of class. Your example, your attitude toward their faith instruction speaks volumes. We request you to review the lessons taught with your child each week and share the activities with them at home. Attend Mass regularly even if online so your child can experience being part of the parish community that worships together. When you are at home, do take some time to talk about the gospel reading and the homily and assist your children in learning how to reflect on not only its meaning but how they can live it out in their daily lives. Remember to pray at home as a family…before meals, at bedtime, before important events etc. Remember that our children learn the most valuable lessons imitating the examples set by the adults in their lives, especially their parents. We look forward to walking this journey of faith with you, and we need and appreciate your prayerful support! - Fini Manthuruthil \"Faith formation is more than a subject to be taught - it is an invitation to a way of life\"
