Christ The King Knanaya Catholic Church, New Jersey 67 Fitch St, Carteret, NJ 07008 Faith Corner By Simon Makil Who is Jesus? Who is Jesus to me? To whom shall we go? The Gospel of Matthew emphasizes that Jesus is the fulfillment of God's will and he is the Lord of the Church. He is the \"Son of David\", a \"king\", and the Messiah. Luke presents Jesus as the divine-human savior who shows compassion to the needy. After Jesus fed the five thousand men miraculously, his disciples saw him walking on the sea and were amazed when he calmed the furious wind and sea and asked; “What sort of man is this, that even the winds and sea obey Him?” (Mathew 8:27; Luke 8:25; Mark 4:41). John the Baptist who introduced Jesus to his disciples and baptized him saying, “Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world;” was later not sure who is Jesus when he heard that Jesus was dining and mingling with sinners. When John the Baptist was imprisoned he sends two of his disciples to Jesus as messengers to ask a question: \"Are you the one to come after me or shall we wait for another?\" Jesus replied back to John through the messengers to take note of all the miraculous works he has done as described in Luke 7:22. Jesus asks His disciples, Who do people say I am? Jesus wanted to know what His disciple thinks about Him. \"Who do you say I am?\" Simon Peter answered, \"You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.\" Jesus replied, \"Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. (Mathew 16:20). Some people would look at Jesus as a Judge, doctor, prophet, savior etc. When the people brought Mary Magdalene to Jesus with a list of accusation he did not judge her but forgives her sins and she was converted. Throughout the Gospel we see Jesus as loving and compassionate person who forgives and heals everyone who called upon Him. We have a living God who loves and heals us from our illness even today if we call upon Him. We should turn to God to receive His grace. He is the only one who has the answer to rescue us from COVID-19. Throughout the Bible, 366 times it is written, “Be not afraid”. When we disobey God, fear dwells in us and we hide our face from God. Like a hounding dog God is after us to repent and turn to Him. The Psalmist says, “They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed” (Psalm 34:5). Our hope is in the Lord and we depend on Him to save us from Corona virus. “For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, says the LORD;” (Jeremiah 30:17). When the Israelite sought help from God he answered their prayers. In Exodus 15:26 He said, “If you listen carefully to the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you.” Our God is a merciful healer who died on the cross for the salvation of whole mankind. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, remain with Him doing the Will of God and our actions will be in conformity with our faith He will rescue us. Page | 3 Issue 2 – May 2020
Christ The King Knanaya Catholic Church, New Jersey 67 Fitch St, Carteret, NJ 07008 For Jesus says, “I came down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me.” Jesus explains, what is the Will of God that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the last day.” Our future is heaven and we focus on Jesus. As I write this message, our nation continues to feel the vice-like grip of the coronavirus in so many aspects of our daily lives. Like many of you, I had hoped that the initial 25-day period of nationwide social distancing would limit exposure to this virus and help slow its spread would have been enough time to win the battle against this deadly pandemic. However, this unprecedented and challenging situation continues to have far-reaching consequences. During this lockdown period there is better expression of love between the couples, better relationship with children and a deeper relationship with Almighty God. As one family we participate in Holy Mass and rosary. However we know that we have to come together in church to receive the sacraments. I am confident that united in prayer and in holy sacrifice and our nation's united strength, resilience and boundless positive spirit will enable us to withstand and overcome the challenges we're currently facing and emerge stronger than ever.
