[Surah Al-Baqarah (2) : Verse 201] “Our Lord! Do not apprehend us when we forget or make a mistake. Our Lord! and do not put on us a burden like that which you put on those before us. We seek from You the Goodness which Your Prophet Muhammad sought, and we seek protection in You from the evil from which Your Prophet Muhammad sought protection from and You are the One Whose Help is sought and upon You is (our) deliverance (from difficulties) and there is no Power and Might except from Allah, the High, the Great. 47
Before ending the Du`aa, do the following: a) Send Blessings (Durood) and Salaam to Prophet Muhammad b) Send Salaams to all the Prophets and finally Praise Allah Verily, Allah and His Angels send blessing on the Prophet, O you who believe, send blessings on him, and salute him with all respect. [Surah Al Ahzaab (33) : Verse 56] 48
O Allah, Shower Your Blessings upon our Leader Muhammad and upon the family of our Leader Muhammad and Shower Your Favour and send salutations (upon him). Glory to your Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they (Mushrikeen) ascribe to Him. And peace be on the Prophets. And all Praises are due to Allah, the Lord of the ‘Aalamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). [Surah As-Saffaat (37) : Verses 180-182] 49
`UD-HIYYAH BEFORE SLAUGHTERING I turn my face towards Him Who has created the Heavens and the Earth and I am His alone (Haneef) and I am not among those who join partners with Allah. [Surah Al An`aam (6) : Verse 79] Verily my prayer and my sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds. He has no partner, and for that I am commanded and I am the first of those who submit (to His will). [Surah Al An`aam (6) : Verses 162-163] O Allah! (this sacrifice) is from You and for You. 50
Thereafter, recite the following and slaughter the animal. In the name of Allah, Allah is Great. SUMMARY Hadrat Jaabir reported that the Messenger of Allah slaughtered on the day of sacrifice two horned white and black castrated rams. When he placed them facing the Qiblah, he recited the Du`aa before slaughtering. (Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah). Hadrat Ali reported that the Prophet prohibited the sacrifice of an animal whose horns and ears are torn off. (Ibn Majah). Hadrat `Aa’ishah reported that Prophet Muhammad said: “The son of Adam does not do anything of the actions of the day of sacrifice which is more pleasing to Allah than the shedding of blood, and he will come on the Day of Resurrection with its horns, hair and hooves, and the blood certainly falls in a place near Allah before it falls down on the ground. So make yourself purified therewith.” (Tirmizi, Ibn Majah). Hadrat Jaabir reported : “We slaughtered in the year of Hudaybiyyah with the Prophet one camel for seven (persons) and one cow for seven (persons).” 51
AFTER SLAUGHTERING O Allah! Accept it (this sacrifice) from me as You have accepted from Your beloved Muhammad and Your friend Ibraaheem, blessings and peace be upon them. When we recite the following Du`aa we ask Allah to accept our sacrifice just as He accepted the sacrifice of Prophet Muhammad and Prophet Ibraaheem . 52
`AQEEQAH DU`AA FOR `AQEEQAH (FOR A BOY) “O Allah! This `Aqeeqah is for my son (name), its blood for his blood, its meat for his meat, and its bones for his bones, and its skin for his skin, and its hair for his hair, and every part of it for his parts and its whole body for his whole body. O Allah accept it (this sacrifice) for the protection of my son from the fire.” Thereafter recite:- “In the name of Allah, Allah is Great” 53
DU`AA FOR `AQEEQAH (FOR A GIRL) “O Allah! This `Aqeeqah is for my daughter (name), its blood for her blood, its meat for her meat, and its bones for her bones, and its skin for her skin, and its hair for her hair, and every part of it for her parts and its whole body for her whole body. O Allah accept it (this sacrifice) for the protection of my daughter from the fire.” Thereafter recite:- “In the name of Allah, Allah is Great” NB. Where blank appears, say the name of the child for whom the`Aqeeqah is being made. Prophet Muhammad has instructed the Muslims that when a child is born the Azaan must be given in the right ear and the Iqaamah in the left ear, immediately after its birth. He also advised the Muslims to make `Aqeeqah on behalf of their new born child. `Aqeeqah is to sacrifice an animal for a new born child: one goat or sheep for a girl and two goats or two sheep for a boy. `Aqeeqah removes all impurities of the child and the child is saved from calamities by Allah . Therefore before we slaughter the animal we should recite the following du`aa facing the Qiblah. 54
