1 Introduction Internships a form of experiential learning can benefit the fresh graduates in gaining industrial exposure as well to the latest technologies. Internship gives them the opportunity to gain valuable applied experience, explore networks in 1.1 professional fields they are considering for career paths, and be guided and evaluated by employers. To ensure that these programs are executed flawlessly, the institute has developed guidelines that cover monitoring, evaluation, and execution. Students can choose to intern in any industry, academic institute, R&D lab, public sector undertaking (PSU), government, or semi-government organization. 2 Objectives Offering Industrial Exposure to Students: 2.1 The primary goal is to expose students to the industrial environment, allowing them to acquire practical, real-world experience. This experience is crucial for their successful transition into the professional workforce. Facilitating Hands-On Engagement in R&D Projects: 2.2 Providing students with the opportunity to engage in hands-on work on cutting- edge research and development projects. This involvement nurtures their skills and insights in these dynamic fields. Fostering Skill Development in Technical and Managerial Areas: 2.3 Creating avenues for students to learn and refine their technical and managerial competencies. Enhancing these skills makes students more attractive to potential employers in the job market. Assessing Student Competence: 2.4 Implementing a mechanism to assess student industry perspective competence. This evaluation aids faculty in identifying specific areas where students may require additional support and guidance. Evaluating the Quality of Student Industrial Exposure: 2.5 Conducting an evaluation of the quality of students' industrial experiences. This assessment ensures that the internship program remains aligned with its intended objectives and delivers meaningful outcomes. 3 Responsibilities of an Intern/Internes When collaborating with a researcher, the intern shall provide assistance to the 3.1 researcher in an ongoing research project or engage in cooperative efforts to design a new project of mutual interest. 3.2 The intern shall conduct literature surveys and gain insight into the research work during the initial stages. Responsibilities include compiling data, organizing, categorizing, and 3.3 implementing ideas with minimal guidance, as well as assisting in the writing of papers. The intern shall familiarize themselves with a variety of tools such as meters 3.4 (Electrical and Electronics, mechanical, computer, etc.) used in data collection, software applications, graphic software, and statistical tools like IBM's Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). 3.5 The intern shall acquire proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. 3.6 An essential task involves delivering a mid-term oral presentation to a committee for review and feedback. 3.9 Effective time management is crucial for the intern's success in fulfilling their responsibilities. 3.1 The intern shall maintain diligent oversight of the project's progress. 0 3.1 The development of integrative thinking is an important aspect of the intern's 1 growth during this role. 4 Roles and Responsibilities of the Departments/Institution 4.1 The coordinator of the respective department is responsible for creating awareness about the significance and objectives of internships. 4.2 The duration of the internship is full one semester, to be undertaken during the eighth semester. Department heads are tasked with nominating faculty members who will facilitate, 4.3 guide, and supervise students during their internship. The internal guide must visit the intern's place of internship at least once during this period. 4.4 Students are required to provide regular progress reports of their internship to their assigned guide and seek advice as needed. 4.5 To participate in the internship program, students should register themselves via the Google Form provided by the concerned department. Prior to commencing their internship or industrial training, each student needs to 4.6 coordinate with their department to be assigned a faculty mentor who will monitor and guide them throughout their internship/industrial training. Once students join their respective industries/organizations for internship/industrial 4.7 training, they must submit their joining letters to their supervising faculty mentor and the concerned department. These documents should include the contact details of their internship supervisor. If, for any reason, a student is unable to secure an internship opportunity, it 4.8 becomes the responsibility of the respective department to assign a faculty mentor. This mentor will allocate in-house training programs, projects, or research problems to the student for the duration of the internship. 5 Evaluation In this phase, the student is required to deliver a seminar founded upon their 5.1 training report, presented before an expert committee assembled by the relevant department, in accordance with the institute's established norms. The evaluation process encompasses an assessment of the following criteria:  Quality of Presented Content: The caliber of the content put forth in the seminar.  Effective Presentation Planning: The extent to which the presentation has been meticulously organized. 5.2  Presentation Impact: The degree to which the presentation captivates and informs the audience.  Depth of Knowledge and Proficiency: The thoroughness of the student's understanding and expertise.  Comprehensive Assessment: The analysis encompasses the attendance record, daily diary, departmental reports, and the Internship Report itself. Furthermore, it fosters the development of vital communication skills and nurtures self-assurance within the student body. 6 Documents to be submitted by Students for Internship Evaluation: The primary objective of maintaining a daily diary is to instil the practice of 6.1 documentation and to motivate students to seek out and document details. information, any provided suggestions, and undertaken activities within the daily training diary. Additionally, this diary should encompass sketches and drawings pertinent to their observations. The daily training diary requires endorsement after each day or minimally twice a week, by the Faculty member or the supervisory authority (external expert) overseeing the student's work section. Students are required to submit their Student's Diary, along with their attendance record. The evaluation of the diary will be based on the following criteria:  Consistency in Diary Maintenance: The frequency and regularity with which the diary is maintained.  Completeness and Information Quality: The sufficiency and excellence of the 6.2 recorded information.  Inclusion of Visuals: The presence of pertinent drawings, sketches, and recorded data.  Thought Process and Recording Method: The coherence of thought processes and employed recording methodologies.  Information Organization: The arrangement and organization of the documented information. This comprehensive evaluation aids in assessing the student's diligence, analytical 6.3 skills, and ability to effectively communicate their experiences and insights garnered during the internship period. 7 Internship Report Upon Internship Completion, the student is required to craft a comprehensive report, drawing upon the daily diary as a reference. This report should be 7.1 developed in consultation with the mentor(s) to effectively elucidate the student's observations, acquired knowledge during the training period, and the ultimate outcomes of the internship. The training report necessitates the mentor's endorsement. Evaluation of the Internship report will be based on the subsequent criteria, along with any other pertinent factors related to the completed activities:  Originality: The degree of uniqueness and innovation within the content.  Adequacy and Purposeful Composition: The completeness and intentionality of the written content. 7.2  Organization, Format, Drawings, Sketches, Style, Language, etc.: The structure, layout, incorporation of visual aids, writing style, linguistic quality, and other related aspects.  Practical Applications and Connection to Fundamental Theory: The extent to which practical applications are showcased, and the report's linkage to fundamental theories and concepts taught in the relevant course.  Diversity and Relevance of Learning Experiences: The variety and pertinence of the learning episodes encountered. This thorough assessment provides insights into the student's ability to synthesize 7.3 their acquired knowledge, present it coherently, and relate it to the practical and theoretical underpinnings of the subject matter. 8 Assessment Rubrics for Internship Activities Evaluation Sheet Academic Year: Max.Marks:100 Department: SEM &Section: Name of the Student: USN: Place of Internship: Activity Name-1 : Activity Name-2 : Activity Name-3 : Name of the Internal Supervisor: Name of the coordinator:
