About Myself I am a Chinese girl who lives in a small city in northwest of China. On th January 22 , I came to the high school in Maine State for one and half year. It was my first time went to the United States, it was like magic happened on me, and everything is so different. School, people, environment, food…… After I graduated from high school, I got accepted by Michigan States University, and decided to go to this college. On August th 28 , I started my new college life. Until now, culture shock still happened sometime, But whatever they are good or bad, they all my treasures in my life.
I still remember the first day I came to school, the only girl who was taking a bunch of pictures in the group. I was curious about everything. Everything was covered by snow, air was cold and fresh. But after few days, I notice the place that I was living totally different from the city that I lived in China…… I don’t have too many friends in school especially native students. And almost time I don’t know what teacher was talking about. So I stay up late every night. First half year I did not join any programs. My high school was located in the small town. But I prefer “village” to describe it. Gas stations, two restaurants, three schools, build up this small village.
This is the city that I lived in China, it is a small city, but everything is convenient, supermarket, mall, hospital, and also transportation is fast. I don’t need to make a reservation for cab if I want to go somewhere. This is the place that I lived in the United States when I was in high school. So many trees around there and I can see deer sometimes. There are no pollution there, I feel like lived in the woods. But everything is inconvenient. People live in there must buy the car, if not they can’t go anywhere, there are no bus, no cab, and far away from everywhere.
After I came to MSU, it was like come to the new world. But I also got some trouble in first month. Took wrong bus and late for class, use google map to find building, walked a lot and finally find it just behind me. One day, I got up at 7:30 am, and class will start at 8:00am. If this happened in China, I will get up wash quickly and go outside stand at the side of the wave my hand and there will be one taxi stop in front of me. But in here, I need call the cab driver and wait. And I think bus is much faster than cab.
Tomorrow will come back to China for winter break. With the time goes by, I fit into this new environment gradually, I made some friends and they help me to take the right bus and find the right way to go to class. And also the teacher and people who work in student services, no matter how busy they are, they always can help me solving my problem. And also the foods in dining hall or in restaurants are tasted much better then when I was in high school. Although I have some bad memorizes from the beginning. I still don’t talk with people too much and said wrong word during talking and still ordered the wrong food that I don’t like, but it was get better than the beginning. I know I can’t get over the culture shock of mine, but I will do my best.
