The disabled alsoneed such individuals to help them do things thatthey canot do on their own.The task required of the personal assistant to dofor the disabled include bathing, cleaning, cooking and dressing among other duties. If thereare other things that the personal assistant willbe instructed to do, this should be agreed upon
and written in the contract. The client may decide to write down what needs tobe done daily as part of a routine so it will beeasy for the personal assistant to follow. Thisallows the client to live within the communityrather than being shipped off to a nursing homeor assisted care facility. Unfortunately, notthat many people are aware of this.Just about anyone can become a personal assistantto the disabled as long as they are 18 years ofage, have a social security number, passesthrough the screening process which includes thebackground and health check. This may increase after a year whileother benefits are at the discretion of theemployer. One example if giving the personalassistant an incentive for bringing anotherclient to the business like perhaps a neighbor ofthe person you are caring for right now.In order for you to work well as a personalassistant, both you and the client must have agood relationship. This means you are able tocommunicate openly with each other. This is whycertain house rules are set. There areregulations set by the employer but you also have
to know what are the rules which the clients wantsyou to follow.Just like working for a celebrity or an executive, the personal assistant should not reveal anyinformation about the client to anyone. You haveto know which matters should be kept so theirprivacy is not violated.Being a personal assistant to the disabled is notthat popular yet unlike other occupations. Thismeans that the pay is also not that high but ifyou are willing to put yourself in the service ofothers that is all the matters. The personal assistant service these days is notonly for the disabled. This is now being used tobenefit seniors, doctors, clergymen andfinancial planners with the fees beingeconomically priced to meet a range of budgets asthe number of people who will be over the age of65 will jump to 21% by the year 2040.
Truly, the government should have done somethingbetter in terms of healthcare way back in the 1960but there is nothing we can do about that nowexcept promote the use of personal assistants.
