They formed a Human Chain joining another 1500 students shortlisted for the Mega Event. The undersigned was selected for the Nurturers of Peace Award 2022 and was among the Ten School Principals felicitated at Dev Samaj College of Education, Sector- 36, Chandigarh on the eve of the International Day of Nonviolence on 20th September 2022. Hindi Diwas celebrated with Poster Making and Poetry writing Competitions on September 2022 in Class VII-X The School was selected by CBSE to play host to two Capacity Building Workshops held on 26th August 2022 and 10th September 2022, which saw scores of Teachers from different towns of North region, bringing their heads together to dig into a significant topic of 'Python for Class XII' and ‘NEP 2020’ respectively. Mr. Abhishek Sharma, Assistant Professor, CSE Department, Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Jhanjeri, the Resource Person from Center of Excellence, CBSE, Chandigarh spoke to the intellectual faculty on the topic for the day. Topics related to Python language like lists, tuples, dictionary, functions and control structure were discussed threadbare. Not only that, online resources available, like LeetCode and geeksforgeeks.org offering a plethora of python programs and projects were brought into discussion. Real world examples found their way into discussion which made the workshop interesting and captivating. The workshop concluded with the distribution of certificates to the attendee Teachers, leaving behind a strong hold on one of the most important topics of Computer education. Mrs. Kulwant Kaur Rehal, the Chief Spokesperson of the day by CBSE stressed upon a Multidisciplinary Approach in Educational System focusing on 4C’s i.e. Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking and Creativity. Teacher’s day was celebrated with much fanfare, with enthusiastic participation from the Students of Pre-School to XII, who wrote heartwarming messages for their Teachers. This was followed by a luncheon for the Staff (Teaching and Non- Teaching) at Barbeque nation, Wave Cinema on 5th September 2022. Teachers had voluntarily participated in 04 scholastic & co-scholastic competitions of Lesson Planning, Alternative Academic calendar, Case Study and Class Decoration and won spectacular prizes. A lazy dance performance by the teachers had everyone in splits, followed by songs and games. This was followed by cake cutting by Founder Principal Mrs. Madhu Bahl and a sumptuous Lunch for the 116 strong staff of the School. Swachhta Pledge Day- 1st September 2022 The young minds inspired by Gandhiji’s timeless quote “A clean body cannot reside in an unclean city” drew posters and came up with some simple and innovative ideas which, if implemented, can contribute hugely towards keeping their homes, housing societies, schools and the surrounding areas clean. 5|Page
Swachhta Awareness Day- 2nd September 2022 The learners of the School took a pledge this day to remain committed towards cleanliness and devote time (100 hours per year) for this cause. The learners pledged to initiate the quest for cleanliness with themselves, their families, their community and their workplace by not littering and not allowing anyone to litter. Community Outreach Day- 3 & 4th September 2022 (Saturday & Sunday): The School hosted an Essay Writing Contest on the topic \"A Teacher Who Changed My Life” in which students from Classes VIII to XII participated. Using digital communication tools and its website, the School highlighted its priorities, focusing on the issues that impact children. Green School Drive Days- 5th September 2022 Students at the School undertook the study of themes such as energy, water, forests, toxic pollution, and waste. The whole school got involved in practical initiatives - for example, saving water, recycling materials and saving energy. Swachhta Participation Day- 6th & 7th September 2022 A Cleanliness Drive was organized by the Eco Club. All students cleaned their desks and benches, windows and doors during the Drive. Hand Wash Day- 8th & 9th September 2022 Students at the School observed the day to spread awareness about “washing hands, building sinks and tippy taps, and demonstrating the simplicity and value of clean hands. Personal Hygiene Day-10th & 11th September 2022 (Saturday & Sunday) Personal hygiene being the action /habit /practice of keeping oneself clean plays a major role to promote healthy living of individuals as well as the society. The School not only imparts knowledge, but also plays a pivotal role in the development of habits as well as the overall personality of the students. The School was selected by the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh to organize a Comprehensive Awareness Session on the theme SWACHHTA KI PAATHSHALA- an Educational Programme on Solid Waste Management on 18th August 2022. The session then began with the learners from Class VI to Class XII in large numbers being in attendance to listen to the special team from MC, Chandigarh, headed by Mrs. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh. As much as 75% of the garbage collected is going to the dumping ground without being processed for which Mrs. Anindita Mitra said, all the residents of the city need to take ownership. She encouraged the learners to be the monitor of their houses, and segregate the garbage at the household level, before giving it out to the garbage collector. The garbage thus collected is then converted into compost and vermi- compost, thereby ensuring recycling, and reducing the garbage going down to the dumping ground unprocessed. She further said that the learners can themselves create compost at their homes, by following simple steps. She assigned this task to the learners to which the learners spoke in unison that they would make it a routine at their houses to segregate garbage every day before sending it for disposal. A pledge to keep the City clean, and bring it to the Top in Cleanliness was taken by all the attendees. This partnership with the School on an important aspect like solid waste management, sanitation and hygiene shows the strides the City is taking to reduce its environmental footprints. 7|Page
On 18th August 2022, the students of Class Pre-School to V celebrated Janamashtami to commemorate the birth of the Hindu Deity, Krishna, and the eighth avatar of Vishnu. Decked up in beautiful and colourful attires of Lord Krishna and Radha, they participated in a plethora of activities like Poster Making and Power Point Presentation. The young learners placed the images of Lord Krishna and recited Bhajans and Aarti. The students were told the stories about the struggle of Lord Krishna and were given a message that the Evil is always overtaken by the Good. The teachers highlighted the significance of the blissful occasion, stressing on the relevance of Lord Krishna’s teachings with regard to the present situation. 8|Page
The momentous occasion of India’s 75th Independence Day celebrated as ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ under the campaign ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ was celebrated with fervor and enthusiasm. The institution strongly believes in empowering its students to be lifelong learners and productive members of an evolving society. The main attractions on 13th August 2022 were – ‘Disputandam-22’, ‘Dawat-e-Nutrition’ and ‘Jhande Ki Kahani, Hamari Jubani’. The Inter-Class Debate Competition Disputandum-2022 for Class IX to XII covered topics based on the Current affairs like ‘Social Media is Detrimental to the Mental Health of Teenagers and Young Adults’, ‘Given the Deep Historical National Cooperation between India and Russia, India Should Support Russia in Russia-Ukraine War’, ‘The Higher Price of EV’s Compared to Similar ICE Vehicles is Worth It for Environmental Protection’ and ‘Money Spent on Space Exploration Can Be Better Used at Reducing Poverty on Earth.’ Twenty teams competed in a tightly contested competition followed by a group dance by Class XI, which made everyone tap their feet. 10 | P a g e
The highlight of the Show was a Talk Show presented by the learners of Class X ‘Tirange ki Kahani- Humari Zubaani’. The participants enlightened the audience about Indian National Flag, relevance of tri-colour, material used for making flag, how to display the National Flag and what to do with a damaged flag. The Talk Show was followed by the sonorous patriotic songs. The Physical Education Department and Commerce Department of the School joined hands to let the students of Class XII have an exposure to Experiential Learning and Entrepreneurship. The students undertook an activity Dawat-e-Nutrition under the celebration of Poshan Maah highlighting the importance of Nutritious Food in our daily diet. With the message ‘To eat is a necessity, but to eat intelligently is an art’, the students put up the stalls with the sumptuous delicacies – Pasta with Garlic Bread, Slider Sandwich, Protein Pops, Virgin Mojito, Waldrof Salad to name a few. The students of Classes IX and X visited the stalls and enjoyed the feast. It was a hands-on experience for the learners. The highlights of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ for Classes I to VII, included patriotic songs, Role Play, self-composed Poem, Tri-Colour Salad Making etc. with the aim to inculcate patriotic spirit among young learners. It was really mesmerizing to see the little ones dressed as Bhagat Singh, Rani Laxmi Bai, Mahatma Gandhi and other Freedom Fighters. The students were urged to respect the Rich Cultural Heritage, cherish our freedom and work towards the upliftment of our Nation. A pledge against Drugs and the formulation of VADA club under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan was undertaken on 12th August 2022 NSS volunteers participated in a cycle rally today to commemorate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. 12 volunteers from Class XI came to the School on their bicycles on 12th August 2022 with the Indian National flag affixed on each cycle from where they proceeded to the venue. They were accompanied by Mr. Khushaal Saini. The ceremony commenced with Lamp Lighting by the hon’ble Chief Guest. The gala event was attended by parents who were as excited as the learners themselves when they saw their little ones dressed up in convocation gowns receiving certificates on the stage. Academic and Co-curricular Awards were given away to the meritorious and exceptional students across the classes Pre- primary to Class 11. 17 learners of the School, who have made a distinct mark in Academics were awarded Trophies and Certificates. 90 students from Pre-Primary to Class XI received books as tokens. The School has taken the initiative to encourage reading amongst the learners. The program commenced with a vibrant ‘Classical Kathak Dance performance’ showcasing our country’s cultural glory, captivating the audience and leaving them mesmerized. The ceremony was filled with a buzz of energy built by the scintillating performances by the young learners. The surroundings tuned up to the vibes of ‘Khushiyon Ki Udaan’, an enthralling and captivating Dance Performance presented by the budding artists of Class Nursery followed by a Thought Provoking Skit based on the theme ‘Never Give Up’ by Class K.G. A spectacular show was put up by the young performers who tapped their feet and synchronized with the beats sensitizing the audience towards the need and concern for ‘Save Earth’ and ‘Save Soil’. A high – octane dose of entertainment was witnessed through a Dance Performance ‘Bust the Stress with Zumba’ which was further extended to the traditional dance of Punjab celebrating life - 'The Exhilarating Bhangra'. Seeing the spirited performances by nearly 350 students, the Guest of Honour, Mr. Ravinder Talwar congratulated and blessed all the little ones. Mr. Ravinder Talwar, Secretary, DAV CMC, the Chief Guest of the day, was all praises for the toppers of the School. He said that it was his privilege to have given out the prizes to the outstanding learners. He said these learners are the future of the nation, and KB DAV School deserves all the appreciation. To enhance the creative skills through a blend of technology, the Cyber Congress Club of school laid out an array of activities for Tricity Schools and all the DAV Schools for the students of Classes VIII-XII from 15th to 20th July 2022. The competition not only served its sole purpose but spread awareness on various issues, viz, ‘Fight Against Drugs’, ‘Live Healthy’, ‘Organic Farming’, ‘Religious Conflicts’ and ‘Prevention against addiction to Online Gaming’. This array of activities provided students a flexible framework to blend artistic excellence with technology in this social media driven era. All Competitions were assessed based on rubrics relevant to the Competition like Theme, Creativity, Artistic skills and Designing Skills. ‘Designathon’ witnessed the participation of 415 participants from Tricity Schools and sister institutions from Ludhiana and Jind. KB DAV-7 CELEBRATES WATER WEEK 2022 In the Water Week Celebration 2022 “Making the Invisible Visible”, various competitions were conducted for the students of Classes VIII and IX in the School. Not only the KB Davians but the enthusiastic students of GMSSS, Sector-8 showcased their incredible talent and presented their contributions in celebrating ‘Water Week’. The objective of the competitions was to make the students aware about the ‘Significance of Water’ as a precious resource and showcasing their spontaneous thinking but also in asserting their creative ideas with precision. The topics were ‘Groundwater-Making the Invisible Visible’, ‘Water and Climate Change-Accelerating Action’, ‘Traditional Water Conservation Techniques still in use.’ ‘Conservacion Natural- Best out of Waste’ competition was organized for Classes VIII and IX in which 50 students participated. The theme for the competition was ‘Let’s save the Nature Together’. For Class VIII the topic was ‘Bird Nest’ and for Class IX the topic was ‘Double Armour Water Pot’. They were judged on the criteria of creativity, originality, artistic skills and imaginative skills. The various competitions for classes VIII and IX were ‘Toyedagum Sawaragini- Hindi Poetry Writing Competition’, ‘Conservacion Natural-Best out of Waste’, ‘Art-E-ILERIA-Poster Making Competition', ‘and Toygator-Water Toy making Competition ’, ‘Crackerjack Exhibitor- Playing with Experiments’. Students of Class VIII put on their Scientist’s Hat and demonstrated the need to save water through a simple experiment throwing light on the utilization of fresh water by following easy methods and improving upon our habit to waste. An ‘English Skit – LA-MER-KORUMA’ and a stand-up comedy left the audience mesmerized making them understand the importance of saving the precious resource. Nukkad Natak- Aaj Ki Baat- Paani ke Sath’ by the students of Class IX stole the show as elaborate scenes with comic timing brought cheers from the audience. The participants extolled the audience to pause and reflect on the dwindling resource and act fast to save it. The act was an eye opener. In a melodious parody, they were made aware about the water shed and rain harvesting techniques. Students of class VIII gave a sterling dance performance.
