A CELEBRATION OF WORSHIP CLAREMONT UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST PRELUDE Grant Us Peace Ore INTROIT Alleluia Hughes WELCOME CALL TO WORSHIP One: When we gather to worship, All: we open ourselves to compassion, One: and where there is compassion, All: there is possibility; One: where there is possibility; All: there is transformation. Let us worship God together. OPENING HYMN Holy, Holy, Holy Holy, holy, holy! God the Almighty! Early in the morning we praise your majesty. Holy, holy, hoy! Merciful and mighty! God in three persons, blessed Trinity! Holy, holy, holy! God the Almighty! All your works shall praise your name in earth and sky and sea. Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty! God in three persons, blessed Trinity! PRAYER OF CONFESSION God of all nations, we confess that we sometimes forget how big your world is. We admit that our own problems consume us, and our vision often shrinks to our immediate surroundings. We become oblivious to our siblings around the world, each in their own context, each with their own hurdles and dreams and encounters with you. Expand our minds and hearts, we pray. Remind us of how we are connected by invisible threads to so many faithful people in so many different places, and allow that reminder to give us comfort and hope. Amen. WORDS OF ASSURANCE One: …God is good, and grace is abundant.
All: Amen. PASSING OF THE PEACE One: May the peace of Christ be with you. All: And also with you. When we read Scripture together in our diversity of language and context, All: make our unity visible and bring healing to the world. One: When we establish relations of friendships with those from around the globe, when we tear down the wall of indifference and hatred, All: make our unity visible and bring healing to the world. One: When we work for justice and solidarity, when we move from fear to confidence, All: make our unity visible and bring healing to the world. One: Wherever there is suffering through war and violence, injustice and inequality, disease and prejudice, poverty and hopelessness, drawing us near to the teachings of Christ and to each other, All: make our unity visible and bring healing to the world. One: We pray these things, joining the voices that are praying right now across the world, All: Our Father/Mother/Creator who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom/kin-dom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.
