A CELEBRATION OF WORSHIP CLAREMONT UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST PRELUDE I CALL TO THEE, LORD JESUS CHRIST J.S. Bach INTROIT For All the Faithful Women WELCOME CALL TO WORSHIP One: If you are young or old, seeking forgiveness or crying for justice, All: This space is for you. One: If you are doubting and lost, grieving or celebrating, All: This space is for you. One: If you are stuck in your own brokenness or the brokenness of the world, All: This space is for you. Together in this space, all are invited to worship our God. OPENING HYMN The Church’s One Foundation AURELIA The church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ our Lord; We are Christ’s new creation by water and the word; From heaven Christ came and sought us in love to set us free; With precious blood Christ bought us for all eternity. ‘Mid toil and tribulation, and tumult of our war, We wait the consummation of peace forever more; Till with the vision glorious, out longing eyes are blessed, And the great church victorious shall be the church at rest. Yet we on earth have union with God, the Three-in-One, And mystic sweet communion with those whose rest is won. O happy ones and holy! God, give us grace that we, Like them, the meek and lowly, may live eternally. LITANY OF RACIAL JUSTICE One: God our Great Gardener… All: (sung) Oh Lord hear my prayer… One: Forgive us for the mess we have made of Your living garden… All: (sung) Oh Lord hear my prayer…

One: Amen. WORDS OF ASSURANCE One: For our mistakes, God grants us mercy. Now let us do what God requires: All: “To do justice and to love goodness and to walk humbly with our God.” Amen. CLAREMONT UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST COVENANT In response to God's creating, redeeming, and sustaining love, we unite for the worship of God and the service of all. We seek to know the will of God and to walk in God's ways, made known in Jesus Christ: to love one another, to proclaim the Gospel to all the world, to work and pray for peace and justice, and to live in harmony with all creation. We trust the presence of the Holy Spirit in trial and rejoicing and the promise of eternal life both now and for evermore. Amen. PASSING OF THE PEACE One: May the peace of Christ be with you. All: And also with you. SERMON ON THE STEPS OFFERING/MUSIC Unknown Maritri Garrett, Guest Artist DEDICATION SCRIPTURE 1 John 1:5-10 5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him while we are walking in darkness, we lie and do not do what is true; 7 but if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. SERMON Saints You Should Know: Rev. Dr. Jacob Buchholz St. Theresa of Calcutta HYMN In the Midst of New Dimensions NEW DIMENSIONS In the midst of new dimensions, in the face of changing ways,

Who will lead the pilgrim peoples wandering In their separate ways? God of rainbow, fiery pillar, leading where the eagles soar, We your people, ours the journey now and ever, now and ever, Now and evermore. As we stand a world divided by our own self-seeking schemes, Grant that we, your global village, might envision wider dreams. God of rainbow, fiery pillar, leading where the eagles soar, We your people, ours the journey now and ever, now and ever, Now and evermore. Should the threats of dire predictions cause us to withdraw in pain, May your blazing phoenix spirit resurrect the church again. God of rainbow, fiery pillar, leading where the eagles soar, We your people, ours the journey now and ever, now and ever, Now and evermore. PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE & THE LORD’S PRAYER One: …Do not let our anger consume us, but fill us with your grace. We pray, All: Our Father/Mother/Creator who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom/kin-dom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom/kin-dom, the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
