DEDICATION SCRIPTURE Luke 4:42-44 42 At daybreak he departed and went into a deserted place. And the crowds were looking for him; and when they reached him, they wanted to prevent him from leaving them. 43 But he said to them, “I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other cities also; for I was sent for this purpose.” 44 So he continued proclaiming the message in the synagogues of Judea. SERMON Created to Create: Rev. Dr. Jacob Buchholz “In Order to Create We Must CREATE SPACE” ANTHEM Joyful, Joyful Beethoven, arr. Nichols PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE & THE LORD’S PRAYER To honor the power of both the traditional and new versions of the Lord’s Prayer, we will alternate which version we pray each week. One: …We pray… All: Our Father/Mother/Creator who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom/kin-dom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom/kin-dom, the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. TODAY’S GUEST ARTIST Flutter-by Music is a duo of SoCal/CentralCal musicians. Longtime friends, new musical partners, Patti Amelotte and Brenda Hunter draw from their common classical backgrounds and love of Celtic music to create a broad ranging repertoire of mostly hammered dulcimer duets. They derive great joy from arranging and performing music together! Brenda and Patti were very grateful to provide music for you earlier this year and are thrilled to get to perform live for you this morning. www.flutterbymusic.com ALTAR FLOWERS Today’s altar flowers are sponsored by JoAnn Banks, in honor of the church staff: Office Manager Jasmine Tomita; Finance and Payroll Administrator Jocelyn Bocking; Building Manager Don Doughty; Sexton Michael Fennell; Sexton Corey Laponis; Technology Specialist Josh Ngo; ASL Interpreter Jennifer Stephenson HYMN COMMENTARY: “Spirit, Spirit of Gentleness\" James Manley (b. 1940) a member of our church, felt the urging of the Holy Spirit to write this hymn after he had completed the draft of his Doctor Of Ministry thesis. The Hymn was first sung at Waiokeola Congregational Church in Honolulu, Hawaii. Manley was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts, and received his education at Whittier College, Pacific School of Religion, and Claremont School of Theology. He was ordained to the ministry of the United Church of Christ in 1966. Manley served as pastor of CUCC in San Marino, CA from 1978-1988, and then moved to Foothills UCC in Los Altos, CA.
