2018-2019 Highlights New Program: LENA Home Thanks to a Pearls of Empowerment grant and private funding we were able to expand our Parents as Teachers program and offer LENA Home. LENA Home uses technology to provide an innovative way to support home visitors working to help families add a focus on conversational turns and increased interactions. 17 New Educational Kits EARLY CHILDHOOD Thanks to a Woodson Foundation grant our Early Childhood RESOURCE Resource Center has 17 new educational kits. These kits are for CENTER both early educators and parents to provide hands-on learning experiences. We now have over 70 kits available for check out. Katie Speer: Early Childhood Education Specialist Katie Speer joined our team in May to take on the role of Early Childhood Education Specialist. Katie works with our local child care centers to ensure the child care providers have the tools they need and also manages our literacy programs. Over 800 KidsFest Registrants KidsFest was a huge success with over 800 registered attendees. Smart Start's Impact Smart Start of Davie County works to ensure quality child care, education, health and family support programs for all Davie County children birth to five. Child Care Health Nurturing Consultant Parenting Program Partnering with the Davie County During two 10-week sessions, 25 Health Department, SSDC offers a parents of 39 infants, toddlers and Child Care Health Consultant to child care centers in Davie County.
