Giant Lady 41 ¼” and her calves After the completion of his studies in Animal Production Hannes joined the Agricultural Research Council of South Africa in Irene.The basic foundation of the experience gained while involved at the ARC is what today still governs Hannes’ game breeding strategies. In 2001 Hannes established a breeding heard of Nyala’s on his game farm near Gravelotte. In the same year he also bought his first Sable genetics. He diversified his breeding species to include Cape Buffalo on the farm Kapiri Ranch in Limpopo. After acquiring the farm Doornfontein in Vryburg Hannes also introduced various colour variants including Red and Golden Oryx. While researching the phenotypical characteristics of the animals being bred Hannes realised that all animals with exceptional horn measurements share the same phenotypical markers.Therefor animal selection criteria is strictly based on these markers. Lemara Game Breeding Farm is about 900 hectares and a part of the farm is divided into different camps for the breeding of rare species. I (Piet Potgieter) produce and mix my own feed to provide only the best quality to my animals. My love for animals started with the purchase of my first Livingstone Eland fifteen years ago and I have strived to breed the perfect Livingstone Eland since. The Breeding of my Livingstone Elands is spread throughout South Africa. My first Sable Cow was also purchased at this time by different breeders. I already had Zambian bulls purchased at Sable Ranch and began crossbreeding. Over time, I purchased Breeding Bulls from Peter Warren and Thaba Tholo. The herd currently consists of 90 females. Strict selection is constantly applied to improve the herd and keep the herd up to our high standards. My buffalo herd currently consists out of 60 female Kruger bloodline animals whose number one breeding bull is a 49 4/8\" Kruger Buffalo which comes from Dr. Hein Muller.
