A student verifies different properties of ionic compounds for her project. She examine the compounds physically, check their solubility in different solvents and identify their melting points and boiling points theoretically. Then she comes to the following inference. Ionic compounds are generally solid and hard in nature. They are generally soluble in water and insoluble in organic solvents like petrol, kerosene etc. The melting and boiling points of electrovalent compounds are high. In order to change the physical state of the electrovalent compounds (from solid to liquid to gas), a high temperature is needed to overcome the attractive forces. 49.
