Depending on the nature of the subject, two modes of postgraduate programmesare currently offered in TAR UC, namely by coursework or by research. Students can choose to study as a full time student or apart time student. The length of study can range between 1½ years to 2 years for full time study or 3 years to 4 years for part-time study.Postgraduate by coursework programmes in TAR UC are developed in consultation with employers and professionals in theindustry to ensure relevance and acceptability to commerce and industry. We have a broad range of expertise within our comprehensive research areas which include cell biology that covers epigenetic control of gene expression, chromosome function and genome stability; cancer research which studies the mechanisms of cell growth and duplication; biotechnology; microbial regulation; bioinformatics; proteomics; bioengineering for agricultural and environmental industries; molecular modelling; detailed characterisation of synthetic organic or inorganic compounds including those with application in homogeneous catalysis, nanotechnology, coordination chemistry, ligand design and supramolecular chemistry, asymmetric catalysis, heterocyclic chemistry and the development of synthetic methods and strategies leading to the synthesis of biologically important molecules and superconducting and electronic materials. Some of the research studies also lead to the development of drugs and therapeutic compounds for humans and animals and disease control agents for plants. Our postgraduate programme by research will help you explore the latest methods or techniques development and you will investigate the fundamental scientific problems and techniques in the field you chose. Each student of Master’s by Research will work with his/her postgraduate academic supervisor to focus on a specific research interest area. A student will be assigned to an additional industry supervisor if the research project is an industry collaboration research project. Centre for Postgraduate Studies and Research 164 Research ctivities TAR UC has established 20 Research Centres and one Research Institute within the respective faculties to support the postgraduate degree by Research. The Research Centres / Insitute focus on the following research areas: microbiology, biotechnology, advanced nanocomposite, nano-polymer, chemical analysis, applied physics, embedded system, ICT, sports and health science, STEM Education-Technology, multimodal signal processing, psychology, instructional strategies, business and policy, entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainability research. To support the research Centres and Research Institute, TAR UC provides adequate laboratory facilities and dedicated postgraduate library to cater for the different needs of research activities and make knowledge accessible anytime anywhere. TAR UC also equips with many state of the art analytical tools and testing instruments such as Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy, Fluorescent Spectrometer, Gas Chromatography, Spectrophotometer, Scanning Electron Microscope, Spectral Analyzer and many more for the analyzing of samples which are obtained from the conducted research experiments. These supports and setup are showing the TAR UC commitment to ensure the smooth-running of research activities and meeting the research outcomes within a given time frame. The research supervision will be provided by TAR UC experience research scholars who are expert in their respective areas of research. TAR UC receives numerous research grants and funding from the government such as Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) from Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), Ministry of Finance (MoF), private companies and industries to support the research particularly in the area of STEM education and ICT research, life science and chemistry, local crops productivity, innovative materials, public health and safety. TAR UC also encourages inter-university and industry research collaboration with IBM, Cisco, Microsoft, IKM, MPOB, Meisei and many more to synergize the research outcomes and keeping up-to-date industry needs from time to time.
