Pairtetsfbunurfgorha’sllp! arks Year-after-year, the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy’s Visitor Experience, Education, and Community Outreach teams work hard to create a robust schedule of free programs for people of all ages to enjoy no matter the season. In addition, the teams work endlessly to ensure that all park visitors enjoy a memorable and fun trip to their favorite park! At the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, we’re thrilled to offer an expanded lineup of free events throughout the year in several iconic park spaces. All of our seasonal programs and events are free and open to the public, so all can enjoy and partake in these exciting activities! Yoga by Counseling & Wellness Center of Pittsburgh Saturdays, July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 > 10:00 a.m. > West Commons Saturdays, August 6, 13, 20, 27 > 10:00 a.m. > West Commons Come and flow with some of the best yoga instructors in Pittsburgh in this free all levels yoga event. Bring your kids and enjoy the feeling of practicing yoga beneath the trees in this city park! Participants should bring their own mat. Family Day Sponsored by Green Mountain Energy Third Sunday of the month, June through October > 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. > Allegheny Commons East Playground Visit Allegheny Commons for free activities for children (and children at heart)! Plant Walk with Community Herbalist, Annie Fox Thursdays, July 7, August 4 > 6:00pm > Meet at the Patricia Rooney Fountain On this 90-minute walk, we will learn how to identify local edible and medicinal plants, review safe and ethical foraging practices, and connect with the plant life of our region. Participants may want to bring a notebook and water bottle (both optional). Group Exercise, Rotating Class Schedule Wednesdays, July 6, 13, 20, 27 > 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, August 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 > 6:30 p.m. Join YMCA fitness instructors in the park for weekly exercise classes. Meet at North Ave. by Lake Elizabeth. Class will be held inside the YMCA during inclement weather. July 6 & 20: Zumba (Dustin Jewell) This class is an energizing dance fitness program that combines Latin and international music with dance moves. Zumba routines incorporate interval training — alternating fast and slow rhythms — to help improve cardiovascular fitness. July 13: Bootcamp (Damiene Palmer) Utilizing resistance training, you can get the lean, toned results you’ve always wanted. Bootcamp is designed to give you the platform to push yourself and get the benefits you deserve. July 27: Fierce Funk (Dustin Jewell) This is an exciting dance-fitness program founded by Pepper Von, one of the most respected and creative dance-fitness practitioners. Pepper’s creation combines a street style funk movement with a contemporary hip-hop feel, for an inspiring, fun and complete workout. The Fierce Funk culture is not just fitness and dance, it is a moving energy intended to refresh the spirit with fun, fulfillment, and love. Northside Farmers Market 5 Every Friday, June through October > 3:00 p.m. –7:00 p.m. > Allegheny Commons East, East Ohio St. & Cedar Ave. Come support local vendors at the Northside Farmers Market! This is one of four markets operated by the City of Pittsburgh’s Special Events Office.

Frick Environmental Center PROGRAMS Nature Play Date Sunday, July 10 & August 14 > 1:00 p.m. Families are invited to the nature play space to participate in fun nature activities! Kids can climb, build, and investigate space. Come prepared to get dirty — the mud kitchen will be open! Western PA Mushroom Club (WPMC) Monthly Meeting Tuesday, July19 > 7:00 p.m. The Western Pennsylvania Mushroom Club meets the third Tuesday of each month (March through November) at the Frick Environmental Center. Each meeting features updates on club activities, a speaker/presentation, a mushroom identification table, and mushroom-related merchandise for sale. This month’s speaker will be Garrett Taylor, a regional mycologist conducting DNA barcoding research in his home lab. He will present a talk titled “Deoxyribonucleic Acid & Me”. Meetings are free and open to the public. Suggested Walking Route: Frick Park - Environmental Center Woodland Trail is proximately .4 miles. See walks.ventureoutdoors.org for details. 6

Western PA Mushroom Club (WPMC) Monthly Meeting Tuesday, August 16th > 7:00 p.m. The Western Pennsylvania Mushroom Club meets the third Tuesday of each month (March through November) at the Frick Environmental Center. Each meeting features updates on club activities, a speaker/presentation, a mushroom identification table, and mushroom-related merchandise for sale. This month’s speaker will be Cara Coulter, a regional mycologist and current Vice President of the club. She will present a talk titled “Zombie Fungus!”, featuring some of the entomopathogenic fungi found in western Pennsylvania. Meetings are free and open to the public. The Lending Library The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy has a collection of exploration tools that visitors can borrow to enhance their park visit. These items can currently be borrowed at two different locations: The Frick Environmental Center in Frick Park and the Schenley Park Visitor Center. Each park user must register to become a member of our Lending Library to keep a record of who is using our items and to contact participants in the event of lost or broken items. Check out the From Slavery to Freedom Garden An outdoor extension of the Heinz History Center’s From Slavery to Freedom exhibit and a space to explore the connection between freedom seekers and the land. 7

Summer at the Square Block Party Thursday, July 28 > 5:30 p.m. Thursdays, August 25 > 5:30 p.m. Enjoy live music and an adult beverage while you soak in the summer sun in downtown’s urban oasis. Check out Did You Know? Mellon Square is a landmark pittsburghparks.org park in downtown Pittsburgh. Built during the city’s 1950s for up-to-date Renaissance, the park provides information on all a green oasis that highlights and enhances the buildings around it. Pittsburgh Parks The original and now one of the Conservancy events! oldest surviving parks to be built atop a parking garage, Mellon 10 Square is one of the country’s oldest “green roofs.”

Schenley Plaza & Surrounding Areas PROGRAMS PNC Carousel Special thanks to April 11 – October 16 > 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. UPMC Health Plan 7 days a week for sponsoring our Schenley Plaza fitness programs. Holiday schedule > noon – 5:00 p.m. (weather dependent) $2 per ride / $60 family pass Adults accompanying children under the age of 3 ride free. The classically styled amusement ride with its brightly colored diverse animals give the merry-go-round its distinct nostalgic character. Erected in 2006, it’s one of the few wheelchair-accessible amusement rides in the region. Baby & Me Yoga Friday, July 1st > 10:00 a.m. Join us for Baby & Me Yoga at Schenley Plaza, a special class geared toward children 0-18 months old and their adults! Mats, water, and lunch provided. Option to stay at the Plaza for story time and carousel rides from 11-12 following the yoga program. Text “yoga” to (412) 216-7929 to reserve your spot! Power Vinyasa Yoga with Folding Space Yoga Saturdays, July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 & August 6, 13, 20, 27 > 10:00 a.m. Mondays, July 11, 18, 25 & August 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 > 12:00 p.m. The class is a Vinyasa style beginning with the sun salutations and moves through different poses throughout class. Vinyasa means “without separation” each pose is matched to an inhale or exhalation breath. Participants should bring a mat. 11

Table-Top Tuesday Tuesdays, July 5, 12, 19, 26 & August 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 > 11:00 a.m. Playing board games is not only entertaining, but it can increase brain function, reduce stress, while meeting new people. Dance and Be Fit with Roland Ford Thursday, July 7, 21, 28 > 6:30 p.m. Thursday, August 4, 11 > 6:30 p.m. Join Roland of Dance & Be Fit and get your body active during the spring and summer months! These movements are inclusive to all and will have you feeling great! Short Short Festival Friday. July 8 > Area opens at 8, show starts at 9 Experience new works and meet local artists during this event which features cartoons, animations, cosplay and more!
