FOR PEOPLE IN NEED 1 Listen, read and choose. 33 In the United Kingdom, there are more than 16,000 / 160,000 charities. A charity is a group of people who work to help children / people, by giving them food, money, education or other things that can make their lives better. Charities need plans / money to help them do their work. In the UK, many people enjoy doing activities to make money, like fun runs, bike / horse rides or by doing a challenge. Sponsored events Fun runs, races and walks are very popular ways of making money for charity. People take part in swimming / singing competitions and races and they sometimes even wear funny clothes / hats, too! But sports are not the only sponsored activities you can do. Some children choose to join a read-a-thon. In a read-a-thon, children can choose to sleep / read for 24 hours or they might read one book every day for a month / year! LIFE SKILLS 6 Giving a classroom presentation People often give presentations at school or in their jobs. Sometimes they describe something and sometimes they ask other people to do something.
