Appendix 1Game Cards58

Appendix 1Game Card 1 – Throwing for Distance Equipment: Skipping ropes/throw down lines/chalk – for lines Beanbags (at least 5 per team) Scorecards Game: Lines are laid out horizontally in 2m intervals up to 20m (more if necessary). Competitors stand with their feet behind the first line marked out (line 1) and throw a bean bag, any way they like, as far as they can. Points are awarded as follows: 1 point if it lands between line 1 and line 2 (less than 2m) 3 points if it lands between line 2 and line 3 (between 2m and 4m) 5 points if it lands between line 3 and line 4 (between 4m and 6m) 7 points if it lands between line 4 and line 5 (between 6m and 8m) and so on. Competitors have 5 attempts and ALL 5 scores are added together to give their individual final score for the station. Points are scored for where the beanbag initially lands/touches the ground and not where it comes to rest. If a bean bag lands (initial point contact with the ground) on a line it is awarded the higher points score. 59

Appendix 1Game Card 2 – Throwing for Accuracy Equipment: Skipping ropes/throw down lines/chalk – for lines 3 hoops per team Beanbags (at least 5 per team) Scorecards Game: 3 hoops are laid out in a straight line at intervals with 1m between each hoop and the first hoop placed 1 metre from a start line. Competitors throw a beanbag any way they like and try and get it to land in a hoop. 51 Points are scored as follows: 1 point if the beanbag lands in the first hoop (1 metre away) 3 points if the beanbag lands in the second hoop (2 metres + hoop width away) 5 points if the beanbag lands in the third hoop (3 metres + 2 hoop widths away) Competitors can choose which hoop to aim for. Competitors have 5 attempts and ALL 5 scores are added together to give their individual final score for the station. If a bean bag lands (initial point of contact with the ground) inside the hoop, points are awarded regardless of where the beanbag comes to rest. If the beanbag lands on the rim of the hoop points will be awarded if the majority of the beanbag (over half) is inside the hoop. This will be decided at the discretion of the sports leader supervising that station. 60

Appendix 1Game Card 3 – Balance/Stability Equipment: Skipping ropes/throw down lines/chalk – for lines Cones (5 per team) Beanbags (1 per team) Scorecards Game: 5 cones are laid out at 1m intervals in a straight line. Competitors stand next to the first cone to start. Competitors have to walk/run in and out of the cones whilst balancing a beanbag on their head. A shuttle is completed when competitors reach the end of the line of cones. They must then turn round and begin the next shuttle back in the other direction. Points are scored as follows: 1 point for each cone reached (i.e. 5 points for each complete shuttle). Teams have 3 minutes to complete as many shuttles as they can. Competitors are not allowed to touch the beanbag with their hands whilst walking/running; if they do they must return to the start of that shuttle and begin it again. If the beanbag falls off at any point competitors must pick it up and return to the beginning of the shuttle they are on. The beanbag must be placed back on their head and hands removed before they can begin the shuttle again. 61

Appendix 1Game Card 4 – Jumping Equipment: Cone for start 5 Spot matts or cones per team Beanbags (1 per team) Scorecards Game: 5 spots are laid out at 30cm-50cm intervals in a straight line. Competitors stand next to the starting cone before start. Competitors have to jump over the 5 spots/cones without touching them, all the way to the end and back again. They must do this carrying a beanbag which acts as a batten ready to be handed over to the next child in the line. All children repeat game until end. A shuttle is completed when competitors reach the end of the line of cones. They must then turn round and begin the next shuttle back in the other direction. Points are scored as follows: 1 point will be awarded for shuttle completed (i.e. end of spots and back) N.B Due to the impact of this activity particular attention should be paid to safety. Participants should be suitably warmed up prior to the activity. Participants should wear supportive footwear such as trainers. Avoid too much repetition of this activity at any one time. 62
