Update on Golf Course Maintenance The Entrada Golf Course Maintenance Staff is very pleased with the condi- tion of the golf course turf following the summer months. The course condition actually improved through most of the summer months setting up what should be an excellent fall golfing season and an opportunity to only close the course for 4 days for aerification. A couple of storms in August and September tested the new drainage system and it performed excep- tionally. There was very little damage to the golf course and none related to the drainage work completed over the last couple of years. Aerification of tees, fairways and greens was completed during the week of September 15th and overall the process went very good even as tempera-tures remained near 100 degrees. The golf course will require some time to recover from the process but as weapproach 10+ days from aerification it improves every day. There are about 2 acres of Bermuda grass on Entrada’sfairways that require over-seeding with perennial ryegrass before the Bermuda naturally becomes dormant in thewinter months. This over-seed process prematurely pushes the Bermuda into dormancy to allow the ryegrass to fillin and become the dominant turf for the winter months. In short, there are a few dormant areas of Bermuda grassthat will require a few weeks for the ryegrass to fill in, but we’re confident that we’ll have a strong stand ofryegrass in the coming weeks. The focus for the staff over the next few weeks is the annual Anasazi Member Guest Tournament. The staff isworking on improving the details around the golf course and some projects that need to be completed beforeOctober 20th, 2014. Your patience is appreciated as we push forward.Ross Laubscher,Golf Course Superintendent Sports & Fitness Perfect PostureThis fall the Sports and Fitness Center will introduce a new classto our schedule lead by Marium Kroff. The core includes abs aswell as the back, glutes, inner and outer thighs and all the tinystabilizing muscles of the spine. Greet Our New MembersDebra and I would like to thank you for your very gracious welcome to Entra-da. The area has truly captured us and it took us less than an hour to decide tobuy our wonderful home in Entrada. While we are not golfers, we welcome the opportunity to participate in manyof the clubs activities. Relocation can be challenging but we consider ourselvessociable and outgoing and eager to be- come an integral part of the communi-ty.Our interests are varied with a few sim- Steve & Deborah Shaiken ilarities. Debra enjoys hiking, cooking, working out and running. She enjoys fashion, having spent her entire careerin the industry. Most recently she was the store stylist for Anthropologie inSanta Monica. She was also named style setter for Orlando when we livedthere.I enjoy robust long walking every day as spine surgery has limited the running. Mild hiking works for me as well. Ialso work out several times a week. I still consult in the branding and themed entertainment environment andcoincidentally just signed onto a COO position in Salt Lake.We share a deep conviction for giving back. Debra has raised millions of dollars over the years for a variety ofcharities by planning and chairing galas and luncheon. She was also named Fund Raiser of the Year for all of Flori-da. We are avid dog lovers having a three year old Bearded Collie named Truman. Our home is the center of ourfamily and we take great pride in it. We both enjoy book clubs but not necessarily together.St. George is going to be our primary residence though we retain an apartment in Marina Del Rey as our daughtercontinues to reside in Southern California. We returned to St. George from a summer away beginning in September. We are eager to meet new friends andbegin to build our lives in your wonderful city. We have dined at the club several times and have enjoyed eachoccasion. The Blecksmith’s Summer VacationIn early September, Jane and Ed Blecksmith joined a group of Nikon affiliated photographers for an 11 day trip toEcuador; 3 days in Quito and 7 days exploring the Galápagos Islands. They saw a number of the world's mostinteresting animals and were the beneficiaries of being in the company of some world class photographers whoprovided some beautiful shots of the indigenous wildlife.Ed Blecksmith Blue Footed BoobyGalapagos Sea Lion Pup Male Land Iguana
