There is an old Polish fairytale about a dragon, Smok Wawelski. This dragon lived in a cave nearWawel Castle. Smok devouring young virgins fromKrakow, but soon enough the city only had a few maidens left - one of who was the King’s daughter. Out of desperation, the King orderedall the brave knights to go out and defeat Smok. A young woman, recently knighted, had made avow to protect the princess with her life. She setout one dark winter’s night to find this dragon’s lair, a sword and lantern her only companions.
