CLUBS & SOCIETIES THE SINHALA LITERARY UNION The Sinhala Literary Union maintains their Debating club by initiating debating completions. Every year, they organize the Sinhala New year Festival for the Middle school. Many Students take part in Zonal Level Competitions. The highlight of their work is the “Sinhala Day” SCIENCE SOCIETY Students took part in the Science Day Competitions organized by the Zonal Education Department, Kandy. R.M.P.M. Rathnayake, S.Stephen Asher,S.Sabeshkar, K.Yathurshan,V.Shriwadan and N.H.Ushrif Ahamed got placed at Divisional and Zonal Level for Quiz and Software Competitions. MIDDLE SCHOOL LIBRARY The Middle School Library implemented a Mobile Library system in 2015 with the intention of enhancing the reading habit of students. The project was a huge successwhere many non-readers became frequent readers Reading fast and eciently is anart Dulara Alawattegama of grade 8 I won the Read-a-thon completion 2015 by reading 70 books in 10 days. D.Herath of grade 7 launched his book' The lost Sword' on the Library Day, 2015. JAPANESE LANUAGE SOCIENTY The teacher in charge, Mrs W.M.R.Kumari was awarded a scholarship to Japan for aTeacher's Training Programme from 10“ May to 03\"' J uly,2015 from the Japanese Foundation in Sri Lanka. GLOBAL LINK SOCIETY The members of the society completed eight International School Awards (ISA)projects. They also hosted a gentlemen from England and two students from Sweden 'Their annual Global Link excursion for the year with school in England, Germany and Australia. 225

THE DEBATING CLUB The Debating Club meets every Friday. Nurturing students in their debating skills. The club consists of about 30 members. They organized debates among members and a Grand Debate was held in the morning Assembly during the second term. WESTERN MUSIC SOCIETY 2015 was a historical year for the western music Society of Trinity College. Both the Senior and Junior Choral Groups and a Piano Solo were placed 1“ a Provincial National levels at the All Island School Western Music and Dance Competition 2015 organized by the Ministry of Education. All Island winners in all 4 categories was achieved for the rst time in the history of Trinity. H.S. Karunarathne and S. Wijetunge who performed a piano duet in the 12 years category became All island winners at the Sri Lanka Festival f Music Drama and Speech 2015 and were adjudged the “Best Piano Duet” of the Competition. STAFF GUILD — REPORT 2014 The present Staff Guild committee was re-elected unanimously by the members of the Staff Guild for the second consecutive year. The following ofce bearers took over ofce with the intention of serving the staff once again. It did not take much time for the committee to get off the ground right away in year 2015.The rst task done by the committee was the distribution of the remaining souvenirs and. hampers for the members who couldn't attend the Annual Staff Christmas Get-Together 2 0 14 by-a rafe draw 226

Transport was organized for all the staff members to enjoy the “ Hill Country Battle of the Blues\" Trinity College Kandy Vs Anthony's College Katugastota. The Staff hosted a grand buffet lunch at the Asgiriya Stadium during the limited over's Cricket match for the staff of Trinity College and for their counterparts at St. Anthony's College, Katugastota Followed by the evening tea’ Transport was organized to attend the Brad by 2nd led in Colombo and the tickets were given free as done in the previous years. Financial assistance was extended in form of Rs.10,000/= at the event of a death of an immediate family member. Financial assistance was also extended to three members of the Staff Guild who requested for nancial assistance for their medical requirements. The Board of Governors of Trinity College appointed Mr.C.B.Ratnayake as the Acting Principal since 11th May 2015. Mr.C.B. Ratnayake left us at the conclusion of his six month contract, which expired on 10th November 2015. A formal dinner was organized to bid farewell to Mr. C.B.Ratnayake on the 9th November 201 5. At the time of preparing this report the following members had left the College. It was a memorable year for Gibson as they showed their colours and won many events which were held throughout the year. The most Important event of the year, the annual inter house sport meet was our rst task of the year. The inter house sports meet was held on 2nd of February 2015 and it was at the Asgiriya stadium we were the champions but came 5th in the march past in the squad. I would like to specially thank our athletes for their immense dedication toward the house, who were placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd in the events I would also like to thank our house teachers and all the Gibsons for their massive support given towards the house. Next in schedule was the inter house drama competition which all the Gibsons looked forward to with much enthusiasm, with all the support and talents of our Gibsons were able to placed overall 3rd, while obtaining the award for the best supporting actor by Y.T.Jayakody. Thank you so much for supporting us test to complete successfully. Also I would like to convey a very thank you to our house mistress for being the massive pillar behind this task from the very big beginning to the end. Oorloff House The year 2015 was simply a year of come back to the Oorloff House. At the very beginning of the year we were placed 3“ in the Inter House under 16 rugby tournament. And it gave a kick start to the house to reach the goals set by the executive panel. Being placed 2nd in the Inter house march past event was also a great achievements to the house. The squad was trained by the Oorloff house cadets. Though the house was placed 5th at the inter house sport meet , all the house meets were full of motivation. As a result, Oorlof house shared the rst place in the inter house drama completion. Thilina Ranatunga was awarded best actor (Female role) while Shalinda Weerasiri was nominated for the best actor award. This achievement was followed by an overall 3rd place at the Inter-house Swimming Meet. We were able to organize a leadership program under the guidance of the Masters and Mistresses of the Oorloff House Association. The program was a Great success and was well commended by the administration and the parents. Many Oorloans were appointed to the executive committees in of clubs and societies C.C.B.Epakanda was appointed as the president of the Western Music Society and the Trinity College Literacy Associated M.Ahamed was appointed as the Presidents of the Astronomical Society while T.D.Ranatnge was appointed as the Vice Presidents of the Western Music Society and the secretary of the Astronomic Society. Shalinda Weerasiri was appointed as the Secretary of the Trinity College Society and as the Treasure the at Astronomic Society J.Rajaratne was appointed as the Presidents of the Hindu Students Movement. Krishanth Thangaraja was appointed as the President of the Tamil Literary Union. Hamza Hakam was appointed as treasurer of the Physical Culture Club. We were able to produce two sports captains who brought glory to the school in return. Kamexh Jayasinghe was named as the Captain of the Trinity College Hockey Team. Chirath Hasan was named Vice Captain of the Trinity College Tennis Team. Kamesh Jayasinghe was given a special award for Hockey from Sri Lanka School's Hockey Association for his performance. He was selected to represent Sri Lanka at the International Hockey Tournament which was held in Malaysia. Rajith Samarasekara and Kaushala Ambanpola were appointed as Prefects. Presidents James Peiris. Ofcially the Student Christian movement at Trinity is only 67 years old, yet hailing its history since 1881 where the rst Christian student body look root in this school. Through the years the movement has struggled to keep up with changes and spiritual needs of the Christian youth till the year of 2014. The committee ofcially inaugurated its traditional duties in October 2014 byconducting the traditional SCM Sunday at the College chapel where the Christian students led the major parts of worship, intercession and the message in the Anglican Service which was followed by refreshment with the help of the students. In the month of September 2015 the Student Christian Movements organized their Annual SCM Day j oin by schools from Kandy and Colombo , held at the Junior School main Hall This was a Major success as it was the rst time it was organized Ahumble thank you at the Students parents. Apart from these major programs the SCM helped in organizing the major festivals of the Chapel; The cross and Trinity of Christ: we also continue to actively participate in programs conduceted by the students Christian movements of school in Kandy and Colombo. We thank Kandy Bible Fellowship Church and youth of Christ Ministries for their continuous Support in aiding all our programs. Every religion is an attempt by man to establish through worship a relation between himself and god. Trinity college while being a Christian school has a student body comprising of all the man religion groups in the country. This has been a great sourse of strength to the school promoting mutual understanding fellowship and respect of the plurality. The Hindu students movement with a rich tradition behind it has made a contribution towards the cultural life of the school. The HSM committee for the year 2015 took over responsibilities on the 7*“ of April. The members of thaw Hindu students movement played a quiet commendable role to maintain high standards in organizing and management. Twenty schools in and around Kandy district were invited to participate at the forty judges from the university of peradeniya adjudicated these competitions. Munasinghe - M.C.F.T.Malshan This was a historical year full of activity for the western Music Society of Trinity College and the main event was the All Island School Western Music and Dance Competition organized by the Ministry of Education. Both the Senior Choir and the Junior Choir and Piano Solo Performance by A.A.T. Surendrakumar participated in this event, under the A1 category. The Senior Choir performed Alexander 's Ragtime band by Irving Berlin and Oh happy day by Edwin R Hawkins. The junior performed the Miller of Dee and Have Fun While you're still alive by Susie Dawe And phil Slitter The Piano solo performed was Tarantella by Pieczonka. The Provincial Level Choir Competition was on the 15* of June at Girls High School , Kandy. Both the choirs performed and emerged victorious obtaining First Place in the respective categories. The All Island competition was on the 5“‘ July at Gothami Balika, Colombo 10. Both Senior and Junior Choirs emerged All Island Winners of the competition. The Provincial and All Island competition for Piano Solo category was on the 3“ of July at the National Institute of Education. A.A.T. Surenrdakumar become 1“ in both Provincial and National level, thus becoming All Island Winner of 2015. At the Sri Lanka Festival of Music Dance and Speech A.A.T.Surendrakumar's Piano Solo 15 years was judged as the Most Outstanding Performance of year 2015. Piano Duet —. H.Karunarathne and S. Wijethunga emerged as the All Island Winners and they were judged as the Best Piano Duet of 2015. A.A.T. Surendrakumar and M.Senevirathne participated under the category Piano Duet 15. years and they too emerged victories as the All Island Winners. All in all this year was a great success and the teacher in charge Mrs. L.C.N.C. Surendrakumar and Mrs. K.B. George, Mr. K. Weerasinghe, the committee and all the members of the Western Music Society worked hand in hand to achieve this goal and producing 4 All Island winners, namely The Senior Choir, Junior Choir, Piano Solo and the Primary Choir from Junior School for the rst time in Trinity's History. 236

We called for new applicants to join as Curators but unfortunately there was no response. Students do not take much interest these days as they too nd it dicult to cope with their curriculum and private tuition classes. 31 new books were added to the collection and 17 past paper books for 0/ L and A/ L classes were also purchased with the request of the Principal (Mr.Colin Ratnayake). 109 boys were added as donations and we are very grateful to the following for their generostity. Dr.D.B.Nihalsinghe ,Mrs.Gnana unasinghe, Mrs.S.Kadiragama, Duncan white Sports Foundation, Mr.Eranjith wijenayake, Mr.Sanath & J.P.Mallawarachchi, Islamic Students Movment , Mr.Dian Gomes, Mr.Daya Hewapathirana, Mr.Staffed.D.Oliver and Mrs.Lakshmi Samarakoon and also donations were given by Sewwandhi book sallers (from the sales of their book exhibition which was held in the Library Reading Room on 24“ & 25”‘ September 2015). Grade 10 - 4 students made use of the Upper school Library. Grade 14-14 students have set periods in their time tables to use the library where as keep the library open during the lunch interval and ofter school till 3.30 for the other students 10& 11 grades specially. Grade 14 students uses the library most. 764 books were borrowed for the year from the students and computers are only for typing their reports or society letters. The photocopy machine is an asset to the students and teachers and it's very well used photocopy, past examination papers and notes (we do house exam papers of the college for all three team in all three languages and subjects) for the benet of the students. Just before exam time this area of the library is very popular. We also try get past papers of other schools for O / L and A/ L students. The income for this year from the machine was Rs.78,122/= , expenditure Rs.7,5oo/= for toner. We subscribe to many newspapers and periodicals in all three languages. During September to Commemorate the reading month we held a book exhibition for the students and teachers were able to buy books for 10% less from the bookseller and 5% from their sales was given to the library. A.G.Fraser (Nicolar Blachurst), Grandson of Mr.Duncan White (Chrictopher White), son of Carl evens Arndt — War hero of Trinity in world was 1 (Robin Arndit) visited the Achieves in 2015 and were happy to nd out about their family members. The Auditorium was also well ue=sed for O / L & A/ L seminars, Club activities and staff meetings. A piano was donated by Ms. Krichanthi in memory of her father Mr.Alexander Martin Karunaratne and it is kept in the Auditorium for the use of wester Music Student's practical training. Mrs.C.K.Arambepo1a was transfer to the Middle school in July , and Mrs. T.N.Senaratke from that Library took up duties here in the Upper School Library.
