THE GREAT TITANS
Zeus's Address Rtr. Muskan Sinha Warm Rotaract Greetings, Taking up the designation of President is not easy, but full of challenges. But yet, I would fight all of them to ensure that all your dreams are achieved along with mine. Every club member is an olympian in a different way, and this year I want all the Olympians to break the limits and pave the road with new milestones. This quarter, my aim is to provide ample opportunities to the members, for them not just to experience Rotaract, but to enjoy it. All the members of this club are most welcome to approach me not only with the ideas they might have which could be project worthy but also to chair any projects they want to along with the board. I would like the members to experience the projects of the other clubs as well by being the ambassador of the club at any given point of time and mark the presence of the Rotaract Club of TCET wherever possible. All the members of the club are a very integral part of the club, and each one of you represents the club everywhere, anytime, because “YOU ARE THE CLUB”. Hence, your best behavior and discipline would not just contribute to the club’s reputation, but also to the reputation of the esteemed institute we are so privileged to study in. It is also to be noted that all suggestions and feedback are always welcome with the biggest heart, and at any given point of time, if any member feels any kind of injustice done towards them, can approach straight to me without any hesitation. Lastly, I have a challenge for Quarter 1 for all the members, which is to make at least 10 friends from the club who are unknown and attend at least 3 other club projects. For the Directors, you are the engine that runs the car named “Rotaract Club of TCET”. Hence, it is given that if any moving part of the engine fails to work, the entire car breaks down and comes to a halt, and sometimes, in the middle of nowhere. Similarly, all the designated directors are very crucial for their respective avenues and should be motivated enough to work selflessly throughout, so that the club never comes to a halt. Moreover, exposure to your vertical heads at the Rotaract District 3141 plays a pivotal role in your own self and professional development. For all the directors, my challenge for Quarter 1 would be to maintain the best possible relations with your district vertical heads, and have a bi-weekly conversation with them with regards to your respective avenues, and how can you get better at it and get creative with new project ideas. I would like to congratulate all of you, who will defy all the limits, rise as an olympian, and conquer with courage in this Rotary International Year. Thank you. Rotaract Club of TCET 02
Faculty Guidance Dean SSW Dr. Lochan Jolly \"Not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great love.\" - Mother Teresa When actions are guided by love, compassion, and a focus on the inherent dignity and worth of all people, those actions become great. The best way to give something to society is just to work for them wherever there is a need.... By volunteering in social work, one can acquire new skills and learn from valuable experiences, as well as make professional connections. Furthermore, it adds to the sense of community. This kind of unity in one place makes for that feel-good and secure feeling. The most important thing to remember is that to do any social work, the motivation for it needs to be unconditional and without any kind of financial gain. Helping others is the idea and the primary goal of engaging into community service related work. Through Rotaract or such Social bodies one can get experience and opportunity to get connected with community service in early ages. Rotaract was founded in 1968 by Rotary International, a worldwide association of service-minded business and professional leaders. Today there are more than 7,500 Rotary-sponsored Rotaract Clubs in some 156 countries around the world, with over 173,000 members. \"Rotaract\" stands for \"Rotary in Action\". Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women between age group of 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs are part of a global effort to bring peace and international understanding to the world. This year also I am looking forward for the same commitment and enthusiasm. I wish RC-TCET great and successful year ahead! Rotaract Club of TCET 03

Muses' Word Editorial preface Philoxenia , the synonym to hospitality in Greek mythology, is much deeper than just a mere concept. It is an unspoken cultural law that shows generosity and courtesy to guests. It was a sacred responsibility that came under the watchful eye of the Olympian God-Zeus Xenios, \"the stranger’s god,\" ruled as hospitality’s chief protector, but we the rotaractors don’t need a watchful eye to be hospitable; it is inculcated in our values and unity flows in our veins, be it any situation. We have remained at service as a rotaract club and as individuals and will continue to do so in the future. As a result, we feel honoured to show our club’s órama and the values by which we stand to the world via this bulletin. Prometheus and Eleos were the Greek God and Goddess of mercy, clemency, compassion, and humanity, and we have always stood by these beliefs and will always do so, knowingly and unknowingly. We, as a club, have always walked down the path of service with values and integrity. We have always perceived everyone as our family, and so we come forward with this bulletin. As said by Shinichi Kudo \"Zero is where everything starts! Nothing would ever be born if we didn't depart from there...and nothing would ever be achieved! \" ,so is our club’s journey. We have come a long way from where we started and have tried to achieve every possible milestone. It was not at all easy, but our driving force was compassion and empathy. We always stood by the quote said by the Greek philosopher Sophocles, \" What a blessing for the mind to dwell a world away from pain.\" There is no better joy than being happy in others' happiness. This was all possible due to the pillars, i.e., our fellow rotaractors. Without them, the family of Rotaract Club of Thakur College of Engineering and Technology wouldn’t be as strong as it is. The bonding and brotherhood that we experience in our institution is the result of a strong foundational belief in collective empathetic conscience. \"Learn to be thankful for what you already have while you pursue all you want.\" So, to pay gratitude and homage to our club’s beliefs, fundamentals, integrity, and vision, we have decided to give all the leaders a brief introduction in the most interesting way through our bulletin \"Irida\". This rotaract year, we would like to introduce ourselves with a dash of Greek Mythology and Interesting Greek Facts. We shall also come across some new and alluring stuff regarding the Greeks, along with the similarities which lie within us . We hope that while reading this and knowing about our journey along with our services, the readers feel a fire in them to spread the virtues of compassion and empathy around the globe. We hope that, similar to ‘The Flóga’ in Greek mythology , we become the torch-bearers for everyone to be a part of ‘Service above Self’. After all, the purpose that aims at the common good for all needs to be highlighted, and collectively, we can leave no stone unturned. So let’s wish each other ‘Kalimera’ and light the flame towards spreading service and happiness as our common goal. Rotaract Club of TCET 08
KALIMERA OUR AMELIORATION,DREAMS AND FUTURE Introdu ction \"Leaders get to tall heights by taking short steps. Being faithful, diligent, and consistent with little steps is the secret to mounting greater heights. \" The Rotaract Club of TCET was chartered on September 15th, 2017 and has been showing immense growth since then. RC-TCET is an organisation driven by progressive ideas, bold actions, and a strong foundation of support. The main objective of our club is to facilitate the holistic development of the members while also serving the needs of society. Our club carries out events and activities under avenues like Community Service, Shiksha, International Service , Editorial Service, etc. that encourage the youth of society to come forward and contribute towards the betterment of the community. Starting off with the 2017 Charter Year's theme of \"Giving Wings\", the Rotaract Club of TCET has never failed to live by its annual theme. After 'giving wings' to the club and laying down a strong foundation, the year 2018 was all about encouraging change and contributing to the betterment of society, leading with the theme of \"Aspire to Inspire\". This was followed by the theme of the year 2019, \"Bridging the Gaps\", which made us grow closer as a club to our community, helping us understand their problems better. The club witnessed a revolutionary change in the year 2020 with the theme \"Rise by Lifting Others.\" It is in this year that our club finally got the recognition it deserved, as the club's ranking improved to 19th rank in District 3141 and RC-TCET gained its very first AMU for the 'Best Club Website', under the Presidentship of Rtr. Prince Pandey. Our club is going to keep on achieving great heights and adding achievements to its wall of fame under the presidency of Rtr. Kunal Miskin. Our club ranking has improved from 19th position to 11th position out of 143 clubs in the R.I. District 3141. We have also been awarded the ACER for Best Club Website in the Rotaract District 3141 R.I. Year 2020–21 and the Emerald Spotlight Club Citation. We feel honoured to announce that we have been awarded the RC-TCET Award Certificate of Merit. Our members are spreading their service all over the world as a total of 5 members (Rtr. Prince Pandey, Rtr. Abhishek Mishra, Rtr. Shubham Gawade, Rtr. Bhushan Nehete, and Rtr. Malcolm Cardoza) from RCTCET were appointed as DCMs in the R.I. District 3141 and the best participating club citation in World Responsible Youth (W.R.Y.) week in R.I. District 3141. RC- TCET was adjudged as the Outstanding Upcoming Club in the District for the R.I. Year 2020– 21. The club has received a grant under the AICTE SPICES Scheme. Under this year's theme, \"Rise Of The Olympians,\" we aim to bring about a change in the community in terms of education, the safety of women and children, and creating work opportunities under the presidency of Rtr. Muskan Sinha. We aim to educate underprivileged children living in areas where there is a scarcity of basic education or not at par with the technology of the current era. We aim to make today's women feel safe in society. We aim to empower and protect the women and children of our society against unjust assaults. We have added a gold certificate from Searic MDIO to our wall of achievements. We have received 15+ nominations in 2021-22 because dealing with the challenges of today requires problem-solvers who bring different perspectives and are willing to take risks. The Rotaract Club of TCET emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support the community, and a desire for actions to speak louder than words. At the Rotaract Club of TCET, wellbeing is at the forefront of what we're working together towards. Our programs and activities are designed to be a catalyst that helps community members achieve their goals and fulfil their potential. We aim to propagate unity and harmony amongst our club members, so that we can work productively towards our goals and make this world a better place. For we are the Rotaract Club of TCET and we are set on achieving great heights. Rotaract Club of TC ET 09
KINITRO Motivation The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step, and it never ends. There's always growth, development, and adversity. We must take it all in and do what is right, continue to grow, continue to live in the moment. This somewhat sounds like our Rotaract journey and shows how much we have flourished through the years. We always believed in this Greek quote, \"Win by persuasion, not by force\". During this long journey, we encountered many hindrances, and it was not easy, but our belief that patience is bitter but its fruit is sweeter, kept us going throughout the journey. Here, the smiling faces of the people were our sweet fruit, and virtues like compassion and empathy kept the fire burning in us to keep on serving people. As we know, coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success. When we perceive each other as our own kith and kin, we can never speak ill of them, and due to this spirit, we have achieved many milestones. Working in a team is a healer and stress buster. It is because success or failure, triumph or defeat, zenith or nadir, is a collective responsibility. Each member is important and can put forward his point of view. His varied suggestions and views can give a boost to productivity. When different minds contribute ideas separately for a common goal, the best ideas emerge, and we rotaractors, as one family, have always tried to maintain harmony and teamwork because it is the fuel that allows ordinary people to achieve extraordinary results. As quoted by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, \"Where there is righteousness in the heart, there is beauty in the character.\" When there is beauty in character, there is harmony in the home. When there is harmony in the home, there is order in the nation. When there is order in the nation, there is peace in the world\", and we rotaractors have always instilled peace and harmony in our club and also tried to spread it around. So, after considering all these aspects, we can say that we are all similar to the family of Greek gods that lived at Mount Olympus. Family is very important to the ancient Greeks and is deeply rooted in their culture; we find great joy in finding a striking resemblance of these features, as well as various quirky characteristics, in our own club. As a result, to pay homage to our beloved members and the virtues of our club, out of all the other topics in our bulletin, we found the comparison between \"Our Club Members and the Family of Greek Gods.\" This would clearly represent our journey and our legacy at our 6th installation event. We feel extremely exalted to present the readers the story of Rotaract Club of Thakur College of Engineering and Technology, through all its ups and downs and its continuing rise. We hope that our \"Irida\" will become a torchbearer for our readers, by which they will feel inspired to work for the service of humanity. Rotaract Club of TCET 10

THPEROOPRHAECCLYE'S Rotaract Club of TCET District 3141 Zone 2B Present our Theme for the year 2022-23 Rise of the Olympians “Being a hero doesn’t mean you’re invincible. It just means that you’re brave enough to stand up and do what’s needed.” Difficulties come in life not to destroy a person, but to make them realise their true hidden potential. When it comes to obstacles, one's relationship with them is the main problem they confront. It's acceptable to push forth against unfavourable events, complain about them, or even feel sorry for ourselves because they happen in life. The people around us and our culture as a whole frequently push us to approach problems in this manner, whether we do it overtly or just in our minds. Although comprehensible, these items don't solve our problems, alleviate our actual feelings, or improve our situation. We shouldn’t believe in acting as though everything is well when it isn't; doing so might lead to toxic positivity or denial, neither of which will be helpful. The issue in life isn't if we'll encounter difficulties or not; it's how we handle such obstacles. One’s relationship with challenges is what can bring about many difficulties and sufferings. If a person thinks about how their life would be if, rather than resisting challenges and difficulties, they welcomed them and tried to overcome those challenges along with the avidity to learn and grow through them, it would make the process rather glorious. Just like how the mighty gods of Mount Olympus faced the challenges early in their lives and overcame them bravely and rose to glory, we at RCTCET aim to conquer all challenges that come our way and thrive towards betterment of ourselves and everyone around us. Growing together and pushing forth for what is just despite the implications is undoubtedly arduous, but it is vital. As RCTCET, we strive to work towards improvement, facing and overcoming obstacles, and rising to heights of Mount Olympus! Rotaract Club of TC ET 12

NAME GIVING OF ATHENS How Athens got its name In ancient times, when the world was young, Cecrops was born on the earth. Half man, half snake, he roamed rugged mountains, wooded valleys, and rocky shores. He travelled wide before venturing into the region of Attica in Greece. Here lived goat farmers and beekeepers in peaceful tranquillity, and Cecrops became their king. He planned a beautiful city, set atop a large rock that rose from the plains. Fertile land spread out below, and the nearby sea boasted two open harbours. The gods on Olympus watched Cecrops and approved of his plans. They could foresee that his city would rise to fame and fortune in the world, and they wanted a share of the glory. Indeed, the gods fought over who was to be the patron of the city. Zeus, who deplored fighting on Mount Olympus, declared a contest between Poseidon, god of the sea, and Athena, goddess of wisdom. Each would give Cecrops a gift, and Cecrops himself would decide who would be patron of his city. On the appointed day, Poseidon and Athena gathered with Cecrops and his people on top of the rock. Poseidon carried his trident and stood proudly surveying the land. Modest Athena wore her golden helmet and carried her spear. Cecrops signalled for the contest to begin, and Poseidon immediately raised his trident high, then struck it mightily into the ground. The rock shook and the earth trembled. A great crack appeared in the rock and spread wide, filling with water. The people gasped at this marvel and rushed forward to taste the water. It was saltwater, fitting for Poseidon, god of the sea, but of limited use to humans and farmers. Athena smiled gently, then bent to the ground. In silence, she dug into the earth and worked in the dirt. Gradually, a small plant emerged; it grew and grew until it was full size, covered in green leaves and laden with yellowish-green berries. Athena gazed upon the tree in satisfaction but did not utter a word. Poseidon looked at the tree, then he looked at the saltwater spring. He roared with laughter, which travelled out to sea. Finally there was silence. Athena spoke: “This small tree is yet mighty. Oil from its fruit will be one of the favourite offerings of the gods, and rich men will bedeck themselves with it for the feast. Women will use it to light the lamps and do the cooking. This oil will be prized among all the lands, so the city will grow wealthy and renowned as its merchants trade the world over. This is my gift.” Cecrops had little trouble making up his mind. He chose Athena as the winner and named the city after her: Athens. And so it came to be that Athena’s gift provided prosperity to her city Rotaract Club of TCET 29

GREEK MYTHOLOGY Doctor Who Could Bring Back the Dead: Apollo’s son, Asclepius, became an even better doctor than Apollo himself. He mastered his skills in medicine to such an extent that he could bring back the dead which angered Hades as this was against his deal with Zeus. Therefore, Zeus killed Asclepius. But he was able to make such an impact on the world that his personal staff, along with intertwined serpents, have become a symbol for medicine in the modern world. Hades Wasn’t A Totally Bad Guy As the god of death and the underworld, Hades suffers a bit from a bad image. In pop culture, he’s often treated like the Greek version of the Christian devil, but that’s a bit of a stretch. To start, Hades never chose the underworld as his domain. He and his brothers, Zeus and Poseidon, drew straws to see who would be lord of what realm. Zeus drew the heavens and the upper world, Poseidon drew the seas, and Hades drew the underworld. It’s also important to note that it wasn’t Hades who was responsible for the condemnation or redemption of souls. Those who died were subject to the judgment of three demigods—Minos, Aiakos, and Rhadamanthys—not Hades. Aphrodisiacs are Related to the Greek Goddess Aphrodite Today, you may have heard the word “aphrodisiac,” but did you know this modern word actually has ancient ties? It comes from the Greek goddess Aphrodite. Aphrodite is the Greek goddess of love, beauty, and pleasure. It is a legend that Aphrodite had the ability to make people fall in love. Like the goddess Aphrodite, an aphrodisiac has the ability to bring feelings of desire, and love to those who consumed the food with one another. Rotaract Club of TCET 39
FACTS YOU’LL LOVE Hestia, the Greek Goddess of the Hearth Hestia was a virgin goddess who vowed to serve Mount Olympus. She did not seek marriage and asked Zeus to give her eternal virginity. Zeus granted her eternal virginity for her service of Mount Olympus. Because Hestia was the goddess of hearth and home, Zeus ordered that every offering of food was to be sacrificed in the name of Hestia for her dedication and service. It was said that Hestia never let the fire in the home go out. Occurrence of Seasons Seasons came into being when Persephone, daughter of Demeter, the goddess of harvest was abducted by Hades as he was lonely in the underworld. He dragged her to the underworld to be his bride. Demeter neglected her duties in grief which led to all crops being withered and dead. Later, Zeus found out and ordered Hades to release Persephone. But by then she had eaten six seeds from a pomegranate in the underworld meaning she would have to stay in the underworld for 6 months every year. Since that day, the winter comes where Demeter grieves for her daughter only to reunite in the spring and summer. Apollo was the god of so many things Apollo was the god of practically everything – including but not limited to music, poetry, art, prophecy, truth, archery, plague, healing, sun and light (although the god is always associated with the sun, the original sun god was the titan Helios, but everyone forgot about him). Music is among his most well-known gifts, and he is known to have participated in many musical contests – though, being a god, he could never stand to lose a competition. King Midas had his ears transformed into donkey ears for not choosing Apollo as the winner of a contest against Pan. Rotaract Club of TCET 40

From getting introduced to such amazing core members, to the various avenues of our club, their activities and so much more! After a journey filled with mayhem of enthusiasm, commitment and compassion experienced by us while leafing through the pages. We got a great insight of our club, by trekking out through “ Irida “. At this point, there are absolutely no misconceptions about the sheer number of values and ethics that we have had the opportunity to bring to light through our magazine. Simultaneously, we feel overwhelmed to have had this opportunity to show the world to showcase our sheer and valiant commitment towards our service. We have very well inculcated “Service above Self” in our mannerisms. We also feel extremely elated for being able to relate our club’s quirky yet reliable functioning with that of a virtuous family of the Greek Gods. This entire bulletin is, and will remain a written legacy of our journey, our previous work which we have toiled to spread the values of compassion, empathy, integrity and generosity in the world. We encourage our leaders to take a pledge for themselves, “To Be Of Service, To Humanity Of All Time”, and we hope to be flame bearers so that we can ignite a fire in our readers, to serve and be compassionate. “Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude. Gratitude is shown in acts.” And with this quote, we would like to express our gratitude towards the strong pillars of our Rotaract family that are our fellow rotaractors and our amazing readers.
