Do you have a favorite chess piece? Why is it your favorite?
SINDDHIZHAI: The PAWN! Most people prefer the queen because it is the most
powerful, but I like the pawn, the most! Because when it comes to the end game it
is the most important piece and can be converted into a queen. It is the
underdog. It also helps in making decisions...like either this or that ! (she smiled sweetly!)
6. After joining the swimming classes here in our school, I was
inspired by my friends and seniors to take swimming seriously.
Samrutha: No, I never thought that I would take up swimming as a
competitive sport. Can you share any one instance where you faced significant
challenges and how did you approach to overcome them?
Charuthakshan: It was challenging for me when I started going to swimming
classes, because I saw everyone else getting medals and other prizes but I didn’t
get anything, till I was in 5th grade. This motivated me to work even harder to
get rewarded..just like others. Finally, in 6th grade I won a bronze medal in a
District level swimming competition.
Samrutha: The challenging phase of this journey for me was in 7th grade when I
got injured. It was an injury on my shoulder joint, which I got due to repetitive
movement which caused stress on the joints. At that time, I couldn’t really swim
because of this injury, which was really tough for me. For recovery,
physiotherapy has been really helpful.
4. Is there any specific person, maybe your parents or coach, who inspired you
to continue to excel in swimming?
Charuthakshan: One of my inspirations is my
‘thatha’
. He is my all time
supporter, and he accompanies me to every swimming competition, that I
participate in. He is the one who motivates me to work harder. This too pushed me to practice swimming really hard, to get back at
them, but now, there is none to mock at me anymore!
Samrutha: Out of all the coaches who have helped me with my swimming, my
current coach is my biggest inspiration! Balancing swimming with school and other activities must not be easy. Do you have
a schedule or... some sort of a routine to manage both?
Charuthakshan: I don’t really have a pre planned schedule, but I have got used to a
routine that I follow every other day. I usually practice from 6 to 8 in the morning and
6 to 8 in the evening. I take my time to do my homework between 3 to 5 and I am
usually done with it. If I have any other school work like projects, my mom usually
helps me out with it.
Samrutha: I usually find a way to manage everything without a schedule. I have
swimming training in the morning and evening as well, so it gets a bit hectic with
school work and stuff but I try to balance everything. In what ways has swimming influenced your personal growth and development
outside the pool?
Charuthakshan: I’ve learnt a lot through my failures in swimming. Back in fifth grade, I had a fake friend who
was my neighbour. Let's call her Lia. She was harsh to me. She laughed a little
too hard, sometimes even added when others teased me and said she would
only talk to me because I was her neighbour.
Then once I confronted her about how she was hurting me, she said I was too
possessive and that I didn’t deserve her. Breaking off from her was a tough
experience too, It was like being in a black hole, with no one and nothing to
have fun with. But now that I look back, I’m thankful for her because she taught
me that not everyone who calls themselves a friend truly is one.
If you have a fake friend, Remember It may be tough to break ties, but when you
break a frayed knot it creates an opportunity to tie an unbreakable bond.
Now let’s look at 7 things only a fake friend would do:
1. They talk about you behind your back
Do you find this person talking about you behind your back, sharing your
secrets with everyone? A true friend will never sacrifice their friendship
whereas a fake friend will.
2. They throw you under the bus
Did you believe that your friend will stand up for you when you’re in trouble or
you just need a shoulder to cry on? Fake friends will generally not stick up for
you especially when you’re in trouble.","3. They constantly cancel on you
Have you ever made plans for weeks, and they cancelled at the last minute?.
Fake friends usually don’t enjoy spending time with you and try to avoid being
near you at all times.
4. They exclude you from their plans
Do they seem to have plans with their friends all the other time, excluding
you? They usually are only there for your secrets and will probably never want
to be there if you are not giving them something.
5. They call just to ask for favours
Fake friends are usually more focused on what you can do for them than how
you can help each other. If they only call or talk to you for favours, they
probably aren’t your friends.
6. They give you back-handed compliments
A back-handed compliment is something a fake friend does to put you down
slightly by making it sound like praise. For example “You did much better than
I expected you to” or “You look a lot more beautiful than you usually do”.
7. They only talk about themselves
Do they only talk about themselves, their passions and their life, and when you
start they shut you down or just seem uninterested?
Like all friendships, a true friendship requires trust, honesty and mutual
respect, you will see that none of these are present with fake friends. Does
anybody come to mind when you read this article? Remember it’s better to have
1 true friend than a crowd of fake ones.
So if you’ve been hurt by a fake friend, remember it’s good to move on and to
make a more meaningful connection. After all fake friends can lead us to the
most important lesson of all time, to find the real ones.
Aarshika N S
VII-C"," "," Nature: A Scenic Beauty
Everything around us in nature,
So let's go for an adventure!
Climbing to the top of a hill; walking on a farm,
Nature may or may not harm.
Nature is full of peace,
and you can never cease.
Nature is full of mysterious things,
So let it spread it's wonderful wings!
Nature is marvellous,
And it can make you curious.
Seize every moment of the wonder!
Remember, Nature gets mad,
Whenever we do something bad.
It's brutal how we hurt nature,
When it gives this world a structure!
- Asmitha.S
IX C","Aaradhya Prakash
5-B","Tech Bytes
...LATEST FROM THE TECH
WORLD!","TECH BYTES
Hey guys! One minute,
I’m just checking a video, and the next, I’ve
wasted an hour(s). Social media makes it
so easy to get distracted, and before we
know it, our study time is gone. But it’s not
just about wasting time—these platforms
affect the way we think and learn.
Take Instagram and Snapchat, for
example. They make us obsessed with
appearances, trends, and what everyone
else is doing. We keep checking for
likes and comments, which makes it
hard to focus on real work. TikTok, with
its short, fast-paced videos, trains our
brain to crave quick entertainment.
This makes long study sessions feel
boring, even though deep focus is what
actually helps us learn. When we
constantly consume other people’s
opinions, viral trends, and popular
content, we stop thinking for
ourselves. This is a big problem when
writing essays, solving problems, or
coming up with new ideas. Instead of
original thoughts, our minds keep
jumping to things we’ve already seen
online.
But here’s the thing—technology itself
isn’t bad. In fact, when used right, it can
help us learn better and prepare for our
future careers. AI-powered tools are a
perfect example of this. They can help
with research, organize study plans, and
even improve writing. AI chatbots like
ChatGPT, Google Bard, and Claude can
answer questions instantly, making
complex topics easier to understand.
Tools like Grammarly can check our
writing,
QuillBot
can
help
with
paraphrasing, and Wolfram Alpha can
solve tough math problems. Learning to use AI tools now
will give us a head start in the professional
world.
But here’s the catch—while AI can help us, it
shouldn’t replace our thinking. If we use AI to
write essays or do homework without
understanding the concepts, we’re only
cheating ourselves. Relying too much on AI
makes us lazy and stops us from developing
real skills. The best way to use AI is as a tool to
enhance learning, not as a shortcut to avoid
effort.
At the end of the day, I know I’m not perfect at
balancing all of this either. ","DeepSeek vs ChatGPT
Unless you live under a rock, you may have
heard about ChatGPT and DeepSeek before.
ChatGPT is an advanced AI language model
developed by OpenAI, an American AI research
lab in November 2022. It has been built on
Generative Pre-Trained Transformer, where it
has been trained with lots of information from
various books, articles and websites. When the
user asks for something, ChatGPT returns a
human-like answer with the information it has
been trained on. It's used for so many things,
from asking questions about space to getting
your homework done, ChatGPT has got all of us
covered.
DeepSeek is another advanced AI language
founded by Liam Wenfeng in May 2023. It is
quite similar to ChatGPT as both are used as AI
tools, but what could be the difference between
the two? DeepSeek recently released another
version of the chatbot called DeepSeek R-1 in
January 2025.This version of DeepSeek uses
Chain of Thought prompting by encouraging
the model to “think out loud” or provide step-
by-step reasoning in its responses. For
example, if we ask for an answer to a math
question, it will provide the steps on how to
solve the problem, rather than just giving out
the answer. This is a game changer as one of
the biggest downsides to the rise of AI was
about how humans were getting lazy.
Tech Bytes ....","Tech Bytes ....
DeepSeek is also known to be more
specialized, which means that it will give
out answers which are more accurate. Since
it's a newer platform, most of us are yet to
test out the full potential of this AI tool.
Even though this is great for the users,
most of us still prefer to use ChatGPT due
to its versatility and much more human-
like conversations. It gives out answers
which are really easy for us to understand,
and it helps the job get done. The only issue
we could face with ChatGPT is that it may
not always be accurate. It is focused to be
more user friendly, so it lacks accuracy.
So, there isn’t really a big difference
between the two AI tools that could affect
us, but they do have their ups and downs.
We have to make sure that we make the
most out of these tools, without using them
for unethical purposes.
