One afternoon, I stood gazing through my window at the blue sky and clouds floating. Sad that Icould not do this for sometime though, ‘cause I had to wait and check the presence of my children onthe 'Cloud' on my 'E-Windows'. Let me take you through ! Each box on the screen had a pair of faintly gleamed eyes awaiting itsturn to be visualised.Sailing in the beginning was explorative and surfing was fun as we were #SucceedingTogether. But the lighthouse dimmed away into the grey clouds.Rolled up our sleeves to maneuver the ship and sailed against the sea of tides : sometimes jammed inthe network traffic or “switched - off” due to unexpected disconnections or just heard someone cry,“Your plan’s validity has expired, kindly recharge for uninterrupted teaching service” ‘LOL’.Long days and short G-meetings helped us to google through cute Dolphins singing and dancing onour way, deep down through the enchanting youtube channel with lovely young talents. Both my children and I went from Kahoots to Quiz- his / her understanding. Actively engaged themin painting their word wall with colourful realms of the Earth. We were never out of our school’s radar. Strong signals and perfect guidance and orders from theCaptain kept us intact to achieve our milestones, step by step.(These lines come to my mind quite often)“For of, when on my couch I lie In a vacant or in pensive mood,They flash upon that inward eye!!”Yes, We longed for the classrooms to be filled with our daffodils, with their brightgleaming eyes, curious minds, fluttering and dancing in naughtiness! We longed for those loud chit-chats and cries, asking to move away from the black -board.And finally the day arrived , when we saluted the little warriorswho stood along to fight against the hidden enemy’s tactics. No more Kami !! only piles of notebooks with my red pen.Thank you dear children for withstanding all the odds !!“ Everyday is a challenge and not a problem”.Keep learning! ! The QuillOffline classesmy POVIn the beginning, online classes seemed interesting. After a few dayswe all started getting bored of attending online classes. We thoughtgoing to school would be far better. Sometimes there were technicalissues, network issues and so we missed our lessons. During thephysical classes, we wouldn’t have those issues and we couldunderstand the lessons far better. During online classes, we didn’thave many celebrations and competitions. Now we have manycelebrations and competitions organized by the school. There are many changes such as maintaining social distance withfriends and wearing masks. I still feel happy to go to my school, listen to my teachers and meet my classmates after a long time. Thesound of the school bell, the cheer of my friends, the fun in the classcame back to us with the commencing of physical classes. I joined this school in my 7th grade in the year 2020. From thestart of that year, I had online classes and wasn’t able to know muchabout my school. That year passed just like that. Then I gotpromoted to grade 8. After a few months, I went to school as thelockdown was relaxed. At first, everything was new to me, and as thedays passed by I felt that I became an NGPian. The school gave mea good ambience, new opportunities and many more. Now, I havemade many friends. We have fun during breaks. I started enjoyingclasses as they are interesting. Whatever happens, the joy of going toschool never changes!!Report by Samiksha GDecember 2020
The QuillEvery person has a role model in their life. A rolemodel is somebody whom we look up to, respect, and aspire to be like. It could be someone athome, or anywhere whom you have met or seenat some point in your life. Their good qualitieswould make you want to be like them. My rolemodel is my mother. My mother is somebodywhom I aspire to be like. I always wonder howshe manages all the tasks wonderfully and getseverything done on time. She gets up early in themorning, cooks great food for breakfast, lunchand packs snacks for us to school. Then, she goesto work and comes back home in the evening. She plays with us and does her office work whileshe makes me do my homework and finally tellsme stories to sleep. She is a working woman andyet manages the house very well. She is my rolemodel and a great inspiration. Anushka G.K.( Grade 5)My Role modelDecember 2020
The QuillIf time travel is possible, where are the touristsfrom the future! This is the autobiography of a path finder in science, an outstandingcosmologist, Stephen Hawking! He is one of the most profound scientists. He made himself an endowed personality with unutterable knowledge andtremendous courage. His life was teeming/filled with charmingendeavours until he was engulfed by Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, aneuromuscular wasting disease, also known as Lou Gehrig. Over time, thedisease reduced his bodily controls to the flexing of a finger and voluntaryeye movements. Rapid changes in his physical condition were visible afterhe joined Cambridge. He proved that the doctors who said that he onlyhad 2 years to meet his end, had erroneous assumptions. He received hisdegree from Oxford in 1962 and completed PhD thesis in Cambridge. Hedidn’t even require much help from his guide. He never stoppedresearching, discovering and giving new insights to science. In 1966, hesolved all the challenging questions regarding Einstein’s theory ofrelativity. This was the time when he lost his ability to write. But stilldetermined to accomplish his dreams, he started using a voice processorand also attained his dreams after a lot of hurdles. One of his discoverieswas the ‘Hawking Effect.’ Stephen proved that his disability never came inhis way to success and was persuaded to contribute to science despite thechallenges that confronted him.INTELLIGENCE IS THE ABILITY TO ADAPT TO CHANGE.Harshitha Vidhyasekar.Grade 8December 2020
An unforgetable TripThe very idea of trekking made me so excited that Icould barely sleep for a few days. Before this, I hadonly gathered information about trekking frombooks and movies. I was previously warned by myfather that trekking is very dangerous and despiteprecautions, there have been cases of accidents andof animal attacks. He advised me not to climb toohigh and stay at safe heights. I was also warnedregarding the presence of wild animals in the forest. We arranged our bags, tents and food and set outfor the place. We reached the place early in the morning and itwas foggy. We saw a few other groups had alsoturned up for the trekking. After setting up our tentsand unloading our bags, we put on all the safetygear which was mandatory for all the trekkers. Myfather while putting me into the gear told me not tobe scared and enjoy the experience. It was anexciting experience. The QuillKs Vishvavahini 7BDecember 2020
The QuillMy favourite trip was when my family and I went to Kerala. We went to Thrissur with my relatives. We started our trip early in the morning. First we went to Athirapally Falls. Wereached by 9 am and had our breakfast. After that we fedsome monkeys and walked down the road. It was a long waybut when we reached the waters I was quite nervous. Yet tomy surprise, it was not that deep. We were in the falls untilnoon. It was fun to play in the water. After drying up wewent back to our car and started our trip. We stopped onthe roadside and had our lunch which we had brought fromhome. During the travel, I had to make a difficult choice-the beach or the zoo? I chose the zoo, because I was notgoing to get another chance to see a lion or a tiger. Weexplored the zoo until evening. The last destination of ourtrip was Malampuzha dam. I had less time to spare becauseit was getting dark outside. I just got a backpack and a teddybear on my way home. By the end of our trip, we had ourdinner at the Kerala border. We headed home after that.It was a fun trip !.Done by:K.SahanaaMy favouriteTrip
The QuillI have a pet dog. When I first saw him I was wonderingwhat name to be given to him. I named him chocolate. Doyou know why I named my dog chocolate? His skin had allthe colours of chocolate - Black, brown and white parts ofhis paws all seemed like a dark, sweet and milky chocolate. He is a very naughty little dog. The QuillMy father is a superhero in my life. He taught me manysubjects such as maths, history and life ethics. He was ahockey player, but now he is in the Merchant Navy. When I was young, I would cry for my father hopingthat he would come home soon from work. When I wasfive, my father sent me a bouquet with red roses and acute teddy bear from the ship on my birthday. I was veryhappy to receive the gift. I would hug it while sleepingand think about my father. He took me to the ship twiceand I stayed on board for 4 months! I used to play withthe crew members. I saw many aquatic animals likedolphins, seals, jellyfishes and tortoises. He is a verykind-hearted person and at the same time very strict indiscipline and punctuality. He tries to help people whoare in trouble. While I am typing this article, my fatheris not with me. He is on a ship. I love him a lot and misshim most of the time.Parents are really awesome, especially fathers! Mine too!About:My DadName: Sindhu.SClass: - IVDecember 2020
The QuillThere are a lot of things that I wish I could tell my past self. Many things that Ishould have done, and many other things that I shouldn’t have. There arecountless things that I am grateful for, and many that I regret doing. Amongeverything, the one I wish I could tell my past self is to probably slow down. Now,being in tenth grade, I realised that the amount of pressure I took on myself wassort of very unnecessary. I think every higher grade student will relate to thisone. From my childhood, I was very cautious about not being absent and used toreally compete to score high in class. I even made my parents cancel many tripsbecause of my exams and classes. Well, right now in tenth grade, this is what I amdoing since I don’t have a choice. So maybe I should have chilled out more in mylower grades. I look back and realise that I could have made a lot of extra time inmy day and could have used them to improve a lot of skills. Now, even if I amreally interested in learning certain skills, or going to some extracurricularclasses, I am not able to find any time! I could have read a lot of books or couldhave helped with a lot of work around the house or else I could have spent a lotmore time outdoors and with my family i.e. I would have used the time for loads ofself reflection and self development. So, this is the one thing I wish I could tell to both my past self and people outthere, who have experienced or are experiencing lower grades with a lot ofpressure. These are the times which are supposed to be used for all sorts ofenjoyment, different kinds of learning, and anything that makes you happy andrelax. When I say this, I don’t mean that I didn't have any fun, and all my days weregloomy and grey. Of course, I did have joy-filled and magical adventures too, yetit's just that I could have made it much better and used them more effectively.Anyways, you are going to be engaged in a huge amount of studies once you cometo higher grades, so use your time wisely and have as much fun as you can have, until you can have it!Smriti.TClass- 10The one thing Iwish I could tell mypast selfDecember 2020
The Quill“Travel opens your heart, broadens your mind, and fills your life with stories totell”. I have gone to many places and trips in my life. They were all fascinating. However, the most memorable one was my trip to “Kashmir of South India –Munnar”.Plan to Munnar was spontaneous. It all started when my parents decided to havea break from their mundane work. I was overwhelmed when I heard the newsfrom my father that his friend’s family was also joining us. Next morning, wepacked our bags, ate our breakfast at home and waited for our friend’s family toarrive. My brother and I were over the moon when we saw the magnificent vanreaching our place. We got into the van and started our journey. On the way toMunnar we enjoyed watching movies in the van. We also played cards. Whenthe time was around 6 p.m. one of my uncles said, “We will reach the resortwithin a few minutes.”. After an hour of travel, My Google said it would takeanother one hour to reach the resort! We were all puzzled! After a call to theresort owner, we came to know that we missed a small yet important left turn!We were going round and round the same area for hours. It was getting darker and darker. The path had become foggy so we could barelysee anything. We felt scared. We were moving like a tortoise. Finally my unclegot out of the van and started walking in front to guide the driver. It wasadventurous until we reached our destination. The resort was more like home.It was decorated with neon lights. It was so fascinating. The next morning, Iwoke up to the sun’s golden rays and the chirping of birds. When I headedoutside, I could see tan-colored trees and a park with slides, swings, see-sawsand many more. It was the best resort. The next two days we visited many placesand returned home with a lot of cherished memories.Overall, it was a breathtaking experience. My favouriteTripA. JAIRAKSHANA V – DDecember 2020
The QuillHi my friends, this is a big hello from me! Nice to meet you all again in thisnewsletter.Things started changing and we all started going to school. But again... Oh my god...we're back to our online classes. We kids are really fed up with this corona. So I thought of taking you all with me to my favourite place which I visited 3 yearsago.\" Paros\"Many of you would have heard about “Santorini “but only few about “Paros”. Parosis a Greek island in the central Aegean Sea best known for its beaches and traditionalvillages. It was such a thrilling and adventurous trip. I enjoyed all 4 days in Paros.I don't exactly remember the date but we went in the month of May during asummer vacation. It was the time when the word Corona did not exist. We went in a group of 14. We boarded the flight from Chennai to Athens. It was along flight but we kids enjoyed it so much because we watched a lot of animatedmovies without our parents' interruption. We landed in Athens and boarded a ferry from Athens to Paros. I was so thrilled andscared because it was my first ferry trip. Inside the ferry, they had a lot of rooms, dining area, play area and what not!.Once the ferry started, I felt a little scared thinking whether it would be wobblingthroughout the journey. But the journey was very smooth and I didn't realise thatthe ferry was going at a great speed until I stepped out on the deck.I was literally flying in the air and my hair was all up. I had to hold tight to my dadotherwise I would have gone woosh... in the air. The experience was so thrilling thateven after a long flight I was unable to sleep during the entire ferry journey. After 6 hours in the sea, we reached Paros. The way the ferry docked and unloadedthe cars and small trucks was so fascinating to watch. We reached Paros by evening. Until then I didn't have any idea about it. so, when Isaw all the buildings in white marble, I felt like a princess landed in some Disney’smovie. My favouriteTrip-'Paros'December 2020
The hotel was on a little hill. Here I have to tell you one important thing. Thewater in this area was soooo Blue…. not like our seas. Blue and white marblecombination was very superbWe all rented ATVs the next day to go around the island and the neighbouringvillages. Each kid was seated behind their Father in their ATV and we had a littlecompetition to see who reached first. Singing Tamil songs loudly while going....Wow.... Fresh air, beautiful scenery, traditional villages along the way.... My God... it is still fresh in my memory.Longing to go there again. It's like “A heaven on Earth” Oh! Please my dear Corona leave us soon…. so that we all can take a trip aroundthe world and have a lifetime experience.Hope you all joined virtually with me on my trip to Paros.“efcharistó..ta léme sýntoma” (That’s Thank you and see you soon in Greek). This is me, P.Athirai, signing off for now!The QuillMy favouriteTrip-'Paros'December 2020
“ It's just typos to be corrected and copy-paste work, editing is a piece of cake. “This is what I felt while nominating myself for this post. Iremember that I was smug over my skills and asserts, hence,I was hoping to get a nameplate ready with the designation‘Associate Editor’ under my name! But, now I laugh at myself, after putting my effort into completing two editions of thisesteemed newsletter, I now feel a little underrated in mythoughts. Let me tell you why.If you also had the same lines running in your mindregarding this post, then I wouldn’t be surprised though Isuggest you get your seat belts tight. It’s only my team and Iwho know how much fun and at the same time tiring this jobis! It’s true that we have auto-spell checkers, Grammarly andso on to reduce our load, yet, it is easier said than done.Beginning from replying to every mail we receive, keepingthe student's info checked, sorting them in folders,sharing/assigning copies of documents to our mates forediting, sometimes laughing and sometimes crying at thefunny phrases and jokes written by you guys and thosecracked by our mates [The most dangerous part!], laterhaving our work proofread by the teachers and then we getyour articles ready to be put on the platform. Well, this is the first part! Now comes the second challenge-designing.The Quill'Being anEditor'December 2020
A team gets together and opens their minds, hearts, andwhat not to get a satisfying outer-cover page, layout andinner-cover pages make them look attractive. This process takes us a lot more time than the editing (Iwouldn’t say the same if we had plenty of articles pendingwhile we are wasting time talking about Avengers, School’sPT periods, and how boring our class was the other day.[Oops! Did I say it out loud?] Nothing personal.*giggles*).Hold on! Did I forget to tell you that we have to go throughat least 8hrs(in total) of meeting both online and offlineamong us, sometimes with teachers as well. As always said“Though you are completely done, yet, your work is stillundone!” Yup we always encounter the last minutechanges. We have to get them corrected parallely while theboard members are viewing it (Did I say that out loud too?LOL )! Honestly speaking-this badge weighs a lot more thanit is in reality. I am not regretting my efforts. Instead I am soproud and honoured that I am able to explore thisunimaginable experience with teachers, team mates andyes, the seniors who always count on me. I am obliged towhoever thought that I am capable of this. So? students?Get your time invested in this and I assure you! We booked a little bamboo hut to stay in for a night. That day, we saw nothing out of the ordinary but only some deerand soon it became dark. So we started to go back to the hotel fordinner. While we were on our way back, we saw some Sambar Deer and my father wanted to take some pictures. He went back to thehut to take the camera. Meanwhile, my mother and I were waiting. We heard the roar of a tiger and the trumpet of an elephant. Webecame so terrified that my mother told me to hide somewhere. Ihid behind the entrance statue and a few minutes later my fathercame back with the camera. We narrated the whole story to himwhile having roti and gravy for dinner. We started back to the hutand my mother was still terrified that the elephant might come. While we were returning my mother saw something which lookedlike an elephant, but as we came closer we found it was just a girl. Finally, after a long steep walk, we reached the hut and went tosleep. It was about 2.30 or 3.00 in the morning when my parentsheard bangs on the door. They opened the door and saw to theirastonishment, it was a wild boar. They quickly closed the door andcalled an officer. He shooed it away and we thanked him. I wassleeping when all this happened. The next morning we went toParambikulam tiger reserve near Kerala and went back home. BY – RIYA EVANGELINE.J VI-BDecember 2020

Do you remember the time in life when you were hanging from a tall building andyou were on the verge of falling? And then there is a superhero who comes andsaves you, for others, it might be a spiderman, but for me, it is my friends. It’s crazyhow it sounds, but these people are mind readers, they can just see me and tell howI feel. They stand for me, care for me, help me, guide me if I am wrong, and mostimportantly believe in me even if I don’t believe in myself. Fearing that I maytotally rely upon them or, something bad may influence me, these thoughts forcedme to be away from friends. It was one of the biggest mistakes in life. If I wouldwant to change one thing in the past then it would have been it. What you have tounderstand is that there is a reason why you are with them, you don't meet them bychance, and that's why they aren't to be taken for granted. Don't Bother aboutwhat other people say, come to a conclusion only after you know the other part oftheir story too. It’s okay to rely upon someone if you know when to rely uponyourself too. Unlike poles attract each other likewise friends can be totally different from eachother and still be each other’s memory makers because you know when you findthem, you sense it. It's an attraction. If my life was a cookie then my friends are theChoco chips. There may be thousands of misunderstandings and arguments, butthere are a million other good memories that make the bond unbreakable. Somethings I learned from them are to rely upon myself, to be calm and understanding,to face obstacles, to be patient, to be energetic and to love myself. I tell them thingsI hesitate to tell even my parents, I am completely honest to them, I care for them,I fight for them, I stand for them, I help them, and I love them, they are myFRIENDS.
