Have you ever
heard of adrenaline? Well, basically, it's a stress hormone produced by both the
adrenal gland and a small number of neurons in the medulla oblongata, a part of
our brain. Adrenaline accelerates the heartbeat and breathing rate and boosts energy
whenever the body needs to respond to fear, panic, or perceived threat. It also
decreases the ability to feel pain, which is why we often don't feel the pain
immediately after getting hurt but only after a while.
Adrenaline is a very intriguing hormone. It's like a double-edged sword, sometimes
acting as an optimistic life-saver. For example, a person might be able to lift an
extremely heavy object to save a friend under the influence of adrenaline, despite not
being able to do so under normal conditions. However, in some cases, adrenaline
can overwhelm the body. It can increase the heartbeat and breathing rate to such an
extent that the body loses control, and a person may die instantly from a heart
attack or brain freeze, especially individuals over the age of forty-eight who need to
be more cautious. Some of these immediate shocks leave lasting impacts, such as a
permanent aversion towards a particular person or thing, for example, hydrophobia,
trypophobia, etc.
Adrenaline can be managed by taking certain measures. Firstly, it's important to
avoid subjecting your body to unexpected or artificial threats for which it may not
be prepared, such as skydiving, horror films, zip-lining, cliff jumping, etc. Even
seemingly simple things like surprise birthday parties, where everyone suddenly yells
to surprise someone, can trigger unusual reactions, especially for individuals over the
age of sixty. Engaging in deep breathing exercises, yoga, meditation, limiting
caffeine consumption, maintaining a balanced and healthy diet, regular exercise, and
avoiding sources of artificial light or loud music, especially before bedtime, are some
other ways to keep adrenaline levels under control."
The Stress Hormone and the 3 Mantras of Life
Smriti (12 D)","We should also ensure that we have enough ways to vent out. Talking to your
family or a friend about your stress can help overcome it.
Most importantly, never underestimate the real importance of sleep, especially
before exams. People generally tend not to understand the significance of sleep. A
minimum of 8 hours of sleep is essential for individuals of all age groups. A recent
study found that people who have less sleep age faster. Sleep has many more
benefits than just resting. Did you know that sleep actually burns calories? Many
people actually assume the opposite. Good food, sufficient sleep, and happiness
are essential for preventing numerous ailments. The future may be filled with
various bodily ailments. To mitigate these risks, rely less on medications and
doctors for everything, and take charge of your health by prioritizing good
nutrition, adequate sleep, and happiness.
During my last vacation, I visited the gorgeous beach in Calicut. While
playing in the sky-blue waters, I noticed the waves rising as the sun was
setting. I was quite puzzled, so I approached my cousin sister to clear my
doubts. She explained a lot about the tides, thus enlightening me. These are
some of the facts I learned:
Tides are naturally occurring rises and falls in the level of water in oceans,
bays, gulfs, and inlets. They are the direct result of the moon's gravitational
pull on earth. The moon's gravity creates two bulges in the earth's oceans:
one on the side facing the moon and a slightly weaker pull on the side of the
earth facing away from the moon. These bulges cause high tides. Every
location on earth experiences two high tides and two low tides every 24
hours."
TIDES - ON A VISIT TO THE BEACH
JOANNE RANJITH - GRADE 6","If the Earth was a perfect sphere without large continents and if the earth-
moon-sun system were in perfect alignment, every place would get two equal
high and low tides every day.
However, the alignment of the moon and sun relative to Earth, the presence
of the continents, regional geography, and features on the seafloor, among
other factors, make tidal patterns more complex.
Astonished by the new information that I acquired, I continued playing on
the beach with my family. It was immeasurable joy to feel the beauty of each
wave to its true sense with the sun setting into the horizon in the background.
Messi or Ronaldo?
Pranav.R 4C
Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are two of the most famous football players in
the world. Both of them have achieved great success in their careers and have
a huge fan following. Messi is from Argentina and plays for Barcelona, while
Ronaldo is from Portugal and plays for Manchester United.
Messi is known for his incredible dribbling skills and his ability to score goals
from almost any position on the field. He has won numerous awards,
including the Ballon d'Or, which is given to the best player in the world.
Ronaldo, on the other hand, is known for his speed and his powerful shots.
He has also won many awards, including the Ballon d'Or. Cristiano Ronaldo
is known for his powerful shots. He has one of the most powerful strikes in
world football.
It's difficult to say who is better between the two because they both have
different playing styles and strengths. However, if I had to choose, I would
say that Messi is my favourite player. He has scored more goals than
Ronaldo and has a better point per game average.","Messi's debut for Argentina was one to forget. The youngster came on as a
substitute but his joy was short-lived as he was sent off after just spending 46
seconds on the pitch. Right now, he's Argentina's captain.
He is nicknamed 'La Pulga Atomica' which means 'The Atomic Flea' due to
his fast, deadly, tricky style of play that collaborates with his small size to
break defenders' ankles During his full season in 2002, Messi was the top
scorer with 36 goals in 30 games.
In conclusion, both Messi and Ronaldo are amazing football players who
have achieved great success in their careers. However, Messi is the better
player in my opinion because of his incredible skills and his numerous
achievements.
An Unforgettable Memory - 2023
“Connect your learning to the real world”
Mahathi R (5C)
We were taken on a field trip to “Nilgiri Biosphere Park” which helped us to
understand our learnings in science about plants, animals and their bones.
This wonderful experience will always be an unforgettable one for me.
This was a long awaited trip. From the traditional games played in our villages to
the modern arenas that grace our cities, the evolution of our sports
landscape speaks tons about its historical significance and our nation's
pursuit of excellence and hard-work.
When we talk about sports in India, the first sport that comes to all of our
minds is,no doubt, cricket! Cricket is far beyond popular in our country.
Cricket is the life and breath of India.
More the reason why it is not surprising to me that cricket draws in 93% of
all sports viewers in India!
Many of us even go so far as to plan our weekend activities, travel plans and
even jobs according to our cricket team's schedule.
Cricket is deeply ingrained in our culture, and it has a very long history of
success, with the Indian cricket team consistently ranking among the top
teams in the world.","This success has helped to cement cricket's position as the most beloved
sport in India and has made it difficult for other sports to compete for
attention and resources.
As much as we all are fond of cricket, it is important to show the same
support and love to other sports as well. Maybe this is one reason why we
are not coming anywhere near the top in the Olympics Medal list, though we
have the potential for it with the talent available with the large population
that our country has got.
The lack of infrastructure and funding for other sports is often cited as a
major obstacle to their growth and success in our nation. Various sports
struggle to lure the same level of investment and sponsorship as cricket,
which can limit their development and exposure.
This is possible only with the joining together of educational institutions that
nurture the budding sportsmen, Government which provides infrastructure
for development and necessary funding for trainers, facilities etc and finally
Corporates and Government institutions in sponsoring such sportsmen.
Therefore, efforts are being made to promote and develop other sports in
India with such stakeholders. Our government has launched numerous
initiatives to support other sports and to improve their infrastructure, and
athletes from other sports have also achieved international success and
brought attention to their respective sports.
While cricket's dominance in our nation may be a challenge for other sports,
with the right support and investment, there is still the potential for other
sports to grow and thrive in India, which has got a long room to grow and
dominate in the world.","IS IT REALLY NEEDED ???
Harshitha B
Each day, I ponder if our planet Earth will ever become free of pollution….
On January 22nd, my friends and I had the privilege to attend a workshop
organized by EFI[Environment Foundation of India ] which turned out to be one
of the most remarkable events I have ever experienced. The workshop was both
informative and engaging, leaving a lasting impression on me.
As a part of the activities held at the workshop, we were prompted to name any
two items that do not significantly contribute to our daily routines and have a
negative impact on the environment, also posing a threat to wildlife. After
thorough contemplation, we guessed the items to be balloons and straws. While
these items bring us temporary happiness during celebrations and festivals, they
have negative environmental impacts that we cannot ignore.
Balloons, once used, often end up as waste in rivers and other water bodies,
causing harm to aquatic animals. This issue is particularly concerning as many
animals die due to ingestion or entanglement in balloons. Choosing to avoid
balloons in our school celebrations and instead opting for more sustainable and
creative alternatives will be a welcome move. For example, we can make our own
decorations using natural materials like flowers, leaves, and branches. We can
also create our own paper balloons or use reusable decorations like cloth
streamers or lanterns. These options not only reduce waste but also add a unique
and personal touch to our celebrations.
Another way to celebrate festivals without balloons is to focus on the true
meaning and spirit of the occasion. Festivals are often associated with traditions,
values, and beliefs that are important to our culture and community. ","By emphasizing these aspects, we can create a more meaningful and
fulfilling celebration that does not rely on excessive consumption or
waste.Similarly, plastic straws can also be eliminated from our daily
routines as they are not strictly necessary for enjoying our drinks. This
small step towards sustainability may seem trivial but it can have a
significant impact when taken collectively by our NGP family. Let us all
come together to make a difference and contribute to a cleaner and greener
environment. Let us take an oath to preserve the environment by avoiding
balloons and plastic straws.
Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR).
Shamini.G, (VII - A)
n the vast world of technology, two extraordinary inventions have captivated
our imaginations and are transforming the way we experience reality: Virtual
Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR).
