Leyamma We Live by faithThe Mundakapadam Mandiram has its origin in the unflinching faith in God of a singleman, the late Mr.P.C.George, Puthuparambil and his compassion for his fellow beings whowere destitutes. In1933 he opened his own dwelling to the destitutes and his sisterLeyamma nursed the inmates.Leyamma’s friends joined hands with her as volunteers forservice. This was the humble beginning of what we see today as the MundakapadamMandirams.In its God-guided passage from a tiny destitute home to its present state responding tothe needs of different categories of destitutes, needy and underprivileged. TheMundakapadam Mandirams continue to proclaim all success and growth as a Venturein FaithThe Mundakapadam Mandirams are located in Manganam,about 6 K.m. from Kottayamin the State of Kerala, India. They comprise a home for the poor, a senior Citizen Home, aBalika Mandiram and a Hospital, and are housed on a Campus stretching about 6hectares It was registered as a Charitable Society No.K28 of 1956.Leyamma, the lady with the lamp of Mandiram succumbed to cholera at the age of 31.P.C.George died at the age of 51.His last words were “Write on my coffin that I am the352nd destitute”. Such is the spirit of selfless service of P.C. George and Leyamma andmany other dedicated souls over years that pour out from Mandiram campus each andevery day.Mandirams from the beginning assumed an ecumenical character. It is administeredjointly by members of The Malankara Orthodox Church, The Malankara MarthomaChurch and the Church of South India. The Bishops of these churches residing in Kottayamform the Board of Visitors. The Mandirams are managed by a fellowship, an advisoryboard and a governing board which is elected every three years.

Our Community Programmes1933 Home for the poorHome to over 100 aged destitutes, men & women.1943 Mandiram Hospital200 bed hospital with all facilities, provides free and concessional medical care for thepoor. Thirty seven doctors and paramedical staff serve in the hospital.1951 awareness programmes among Temperance MovementTreatment of persons who suffer from drug addiction,school children, A. A meetings etc.1961 Leyamma Memorial School of Nursing for WomenAdmits 30 students for General Nursing and Mid-Wifery course every year. Scholarshipsprovided to financially poor students.1977 Senior Citizens Home30 self contained units provides a home away from home for senior citizens.1994 Family Counseling CentreHelp resolve personal and family related problems. Also provides legal aid and counseling.1998 Child Sponsorship ProjectAdopts 100 students, provides education, personality development, carrier guidance,recreation etc.2001 Balika MandiramHome for orphan girls of age group 4-23. Provides educational and all other needs.2015 Palliative care and Home careA team of doctors and paramedics visit bedridden patients in their homes. They providefree medicines and food for the poor and sick

Home for the poorMundakpadam Mandiram has grown during the past 83 years intoa refuge housing over 100 destitute men and women, aged andinfirm. We try to maintain and administer Home for the poor in sucha way that each old man and woman admitted may have apeaceful, comfortable life, sharing and caring for each other andhelping to meet their final departure in peace and in hope.

Senior Citizens HomeJuhanon Mar Thoma Mandiram for senior citizencouples/individuals has 30 self contained units. Thesenior friends are encouraged to spend the evening oftheir life in peace. The nearness of the hospital andmedical care, possibilities of social service and spiritualexercise and participation in the various programmes ofMandirams make life in this home cheerful andpeaceful.

Balika MandiramThis home for orphan girl children was started in 2001 as one of theP.C. George Birth Centenary Projects. There are ten children of anage group 4 years to 22 years live in this home. Most of the childrenattend schools and others pursue professional courses. The eldestgirl has completed the GNM course. She is now working in theMandiram Hospital. A \"mother\" assisted by a home nurse and ateacher looks after the children.

Child Sponsorship ProjectChildren are selected from the poor families in thelocality and they are provided with study material, dress,private tuition and personality development programmes.The first phase of Child sponsorship project was started in1998 and completed in 2008. The second phase wasstarted in May 2009. Presently there are 100 childrensponsored under the project.

Mandiram HospitalSet in a rural background, Mandiram hospital, started in 1943, is a division ofMandirams Society serving the local area, mostly for the poor andmiddle-income group. In the last 73 years Mandiram Hospital has becomeone of the best 200 bed General Hospitals in Kerala, with all the specialitydepartments.Free medical treatment is offered to the inmates of the Mandiram (DestituteHome), the Kerala Balagram, Balika Mandiram and to the Hospital andMandiram staff. Poor patients needing financial assistance can approachfor help from the Good Samaritan's Fund. The Hospital is run on a no profitno loss basis. For any investment for buildings, new wards, costly equipmentsetc., we seek the goodwill of friends of Mandirams in India and abroad.For more details please visit www.mandiramhospital.org

Family Counselling CentreThe Centre provides free counselling for familyproblems, marital problems,addictions and atrocitiesagainst women.Temperance MovementStarted in 1951 by P.C George, the movement givesemphasis for work among addicts, de-addictionprogrammes, personal counselling, awareness classes forschool children and A A meetings.

How you can help1) Sponsor a girl child of Balika Mandiram – Rs. 5000/- ($ 80) per annum per child.2) Support Child Sponsorship Project – Rs. 6,500/- ($ 100) per annum per child.3) Scholarship and financial aid for Nursing students who come from financially poor background Rs. 65,000/-($1000) per annum per student.4) Sponsor the de-addiction programme for individuals addicted to drugs - Rs.10,000/-($160) per person.5) “Home care and Food at Door step” for bed ridden individual Rs.36,000/-($.500) per person per annum.6) Contribute towards “Good Samaritan” Fund for medical help to the poor.
