Welcoming Our New CHAT AmeriCorps VISTAsKrystle Allen is a native of Newark, NJ. She is thrilled to serve as an AmeriCorps VISTAwith the Jewish Renaissance Medical Center. Her previous experience over the pasteight years includes work with various nonpro ts such as El Club Del Barrio Inc.,United Way of Essex County, the YMCA of Montclair, Community Lifestyle Inc., andArthouse productions. Previously, Krystle served as an AmeriCorps NCCC member withLa Casa De Don Pedro Inc. and she is currently a board member of the YoungNon-Pro t Professionals of New Jersey.In March of 2014 Krystle founded a nonpro t organization, Eyes Like Mine Inc. Since beginningher service as a VISTA, Krystle has shown a knack for creating and building partnerships withorganizations in the Newark Area including the Newark YMCA and United Parks as One. These e orts will go a long way in spreadingthe JRMC’s presence in Newark. Krystle is also consistent in her e orts toward building capacity and bringing awareness to the JRMC’sservices through connecting opportunities for outreach platforms. These include the recent Investor’s Bank annual nonpro tconference, and NJIT’S annual nonpro t expo. Krystle is excited to be a part of the JRMC’s continued success.Leslie Navas is a graduate of Ramapo College of New Jersey, where she received herdegree in Social Science with a concentration in Community Mental Health. Leslie is also aformer CHAT (Community Health Ambassadors Together) Summer AmeriCorps VISTA member.Her service site was the Jewish Renaissance Foundation. While serving as a VISTA there for 8weeks, she expanded her competencies by assisting in the creation of their annual report.A native of Elizabeth New Jersey, Leslie’s experience living in an urban city in uenced herdecision to participate in the AmeriCorps VISTA program for the full year term.Perth Amboy is a community similar to the one that she grew up in, and she wants to give back tothose less fortunate in any way that she can. By serving with the CHAT VISTA program, Leslie isputting her words into action. Leslie plans on pursuing her Master's in Social Work and supporting health initiatives in the non-pro tsector. Leslie is excited to serve with the Jewish Renaissance Medical Center to help others and further develop her professional skills. JRFO Celebrates Success at 2017 GalaOn October 18, the Jewish Renaissance Family of Organizations held its annual Gala at the beautiful ParkChateau in East Brunswick. This event was an opportunity for the organizations to highlight notedaccomplishments and celebrate recent successes. Furthermore, it was a chance for the key components inJRFO’s progression to network and fellowship amongst one another. These essential individuals areemployees, donors, sponsors, stakeholders, family and friends. Guests enjoyed upscale cuisine, asaxophonist, a magician, and a DJ that kept the dance oor full.This was all made possible through the generosity of ourpresenting patron and dinner sponsor United Health Care,and our Bridge Builder Horizon sponsoring our entertainment. We are similarly grateful for our Community Connectors WellCare(awards), Aetna (cocktail), PNC Bank (valet), and our sustainablesupporters Investors Bank, and Lab Corps.Additionally, the JRFO was pleased to honor three deserving individuals for their services to thecommunity. Tommy Hudanish, Billy Delgado, and Antonia Ricigliano, all exemplify the values that theJewish Renaissance Family of organizations coveys. Their leadership and initiative in serving thecommunity are well documented and commendable. Overall, this magical evening left individuals withanticipation for the JRFO’s future events.

They spent their year working closely with the [email protected] of Marketing: Sorangie Castillo.Derrel used the platform as a VISTA to show tremendous versatility. He gave leadership in the creation of Connect with us!the majority of the marketing materials used to promote programs, events, and servicesprovided by the JRMC. Exemplifying this was his work designing the banners, tee @jrmc_healthsigns, and the brochure for the golf outing. It is di cult to enumerate the ways that Derrell’s’ skills led to greater capacity building.These are just a few of his achievements for which we are grateful.Joanne’s service as a VISTA brought her all the way from California to assist the JRMC in capacity building.She acquitted herself particularly well, in the areas of grant research and projectimplementation. Notably, Joanne worked with Henry Schein as well as other grantopportunities positioning the JRMC to acquire more funding. Additionally,Joanne was a key component in adding more pharmacies to the repertoire whichincludes instituting of the 340B pharmacy program. Her persuasive powers wereon display as she was exceptional in soliciting donations, both in kind and monetary.Her outreach e orts were the catalyst behind the e orts to insure that our nancialsupporters returned to our golf outing, and our Gala. Perhaps her mostadmirable attribute was her work ethic. Joanne routinely worked above and beyond the call of duty to getthe job done. JRMC Teams Up with KIPPKIPP (Knowledge is Power Program) is a non-pro t that creates tuitionfree college-preparatory, public charter schools serving elementary,middle, and high school students. Currently, there are 7 KIPP schoolsbased in Newark, NJ (3 elementary, 3 middle, and 1 high school).Each charter school is tuition free and part of the free public schoolsystem. It is open to all students including those with disabilities,funded through a combination of federal, state and local tax dollarsand not a liated with or restricted to a particular religion group.KIPP’s values include kids focus, freedom, fun, impact, improvementand teamwork. In partnership with the Jewish Renaissance MedicalCenter, these values are exempli ed. A JRMC mobile unit is sent outto the KIPP schools on back to school nights and on an as needed basis.The mobile unit provides free medical services such as immunizations and health screenings to ensure thatall of the students are healthy throughout the school year. Through the e orts of the dedicated sta , KIPPalumni are on track to earn college degrees at four times the national average for low-income students. New WIC PartnershipThe Jewish Renaissance Medical Center is proud to announce a new partnership with RutgersMedical School’s WIC program. WIC, which stands for Women Infants and Children, is afederally funded initiative allocating grant money to states for the provision of nutritioneducation programs assisting underserved populations.According to the Memorandum of Understanding, “Rutgers Medical School WIC Program is designed to provideat-risk low income pregnant, breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, infants, children up toage ve years old with a nutritionally valuable food package to supplement their daily food intake during criticalstages of growth and development.” The Jewish Renaissance Medical Center will support this program in threecritical ways. First, the Jewish renaissance Medical Center will provide dental services to WIC eligible toddlers.Additionally, the Jewish Renaissance Medical Center will refer families to WIC so that all their needs can be met.Finally, the JRMC will orchestrate outreach and educational sessions twice monthly on the Rutgers campus. Inreturn the program will act as an avenue through which families can learn about the services provided by theJRMC. Furthermore, the program will act as a conduit of information between families and the JewishRenaissance Medical center. Most importantly the Rutgers Medical School WIC program will provide up to thestandard services for families referred by the JRMC. We are truly excited to work in concert with the Rutgers WICprogram to provide the best care for underserved and uninsured families.
