CHAPTER 1: EARLY LIFE AND FAMILY

EARLY LIFE AND FAMILY Najib Razak is a Malaysian politician who was Malaysia's sixth Prime Minister from April 2009 until May 2018. Prior to becoming Prime Minister, he served in many cabinet roles, including Figure 1: Image of Najib Razak two times as Minister Of defence. Coalition of the Barisan Nasional (BN). It is unexpected that he has had a remarkable mohd-najib-bin-tun-haji-abdul-razak/profil/ political career given that he was born into a family of famous politicians; both his father and uncle have served as Malaysia's Prime Minister (PM). His father died abruptly while he was only 22 years old, catapulting him into politics. He was chosen to replace his father's seat in Pekan just a few weeks after his father died. That was just the beginning; during the next few decades, he climbed to the post formerly held by his father, that of Malaysian Prime Minister. As Prime Minister, he enacted a series of progressive measures to help the country's economic liberalisation and pave the way for Malaysia to become a modern, progressive, and forward- thinking democracy. He also created the 1Malaysia campaign, which pushes for greater Malaysian unity and peace, as well as national unification. 2

However, there are various limitations that prevent access to archive documents in the OFA. After finishing this project, we also learnt a lot about Dato' Sri Haji Mohammad Najib Bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak, Malaysia's prime minister.
