Software is collection of instructions that enable the user to interact with acomputer or have it perform specific task for them. Software is often divided into twocategories are Systems software and Applications software.1. Systems software : It includes the programs that are dedicated tomanaging the computer itself. The popular systems software e.g. DOS, UNIX,Microsoft WINDOWS, SUN, OS/2 and NET WARE, Android and iOS. Systemsoftware divided 3 types as follow:1.1 Operating System (OS) - a set of programs that manage computer hardwareresources and provide common services for application software. The operating systemacts as an interface between the hardware and the programs requesting I/O. It is themost fundamental of all system software programs.1.2 Compiler - a computer program (or set of programs) that transforms sourcecode written in a programming language (the source language) into another computerlanguage. The most common reason for converting a source code is to createan executable program.1.3 Utilities software – computer software designed to help manage and tune computerhardware, an operation system, or application software by performing a single task or asmall range of tasks e.g. Editor, Debugging, Copy.2. Applications software : programs that help the user perform a particular task e.g.word processors, spreadsheets, and database management Hypertext, PersonalInformation Management and Game. Applications software divided 2 types as follow:2.1 Package software - An application program developed for sale to the generalpublic. Packaged software is designed to appeal to a large audience of users, andalthough the programs may be tailored to a user's taste by setting variouspreferences, it can never be as individualized as custom-programmed software. Thepopular program for user there are 5 groups e.g. word processing software, spreadsheet software, data base management software, presentation software and datacommunication software.2.2 Proprietary software - software that is owned by an individual or a company(usually the one that developed it). There are almost always major restrictions on itsuse, and its source code is almost always kept secret.

3. Malicious software or malware : which are computer programs developed to harmand disrupt computers. As such, malware is undesirable. Malware is closely associatedwith computer-related crimes, though some malicious programs may have been designedas practical jokes.

Word-processing program used primarily for creating documents such as letters,brochures, learning activities, tests, quizzes and students' homework assignments.Microsoft Word is the most popular word processing program – and justifiably.
