ประโยคอดีตกาลตอ่ เนือ่ ง (Past Continuous) มีหลักการใช้ หรือจะใชเ้ พ่อื ส่อื สารเหตกุ ารณ์ ดังตอ่ ไปน้ี 1. เหตุการณ์ท่ีเกิดกอ่ นหรือหลงั อีกเหตกุ ารณห์ นง่ึ (ในอดีต) • Kevin was getting off when he realized that he lost his passport. • Those boys were celebrating after their team had their first goal. 2. เหตุการณ์ทเ่ี กิดกอ่ นหรอื หลังเวลาทเ่ี ฉพาะเจาะจง (ในอดตี ) • I was speaking Chinese when I received your call. • Doctor Watson was partying with this family after New Year’s Day. 3. เหตกุ ารณท์ ีเ่ กิดขึน้ ซ้ามาสักพักแลว้ (ในอดีต) • I was always losing my money. • Hannah was missing her bus again.

4. เหตกุ ารณท์ ่ีเกดิ ขึน้ ซ้าบอ่ ยๆ (ในอดีต) • The government was raising the taxes to cover the loss. • The storm was hitting a small town. 5. ใชบ้ อกเหตุการณ์ทมี่ กี ารเปลี่ยนแปลง (ในอดตี ) • Sherlock Holmes was looking for a new house to live in. • She was growing up so fast when she was a teen. เพราะฉะนั้น ก่อนทเ่ี ราจะเลือกใช้ Past continuous tense อยา่ ลมื กลบั มาดถู ึง หลกั การใช้วา่ ประโยคทเ่ี ราตอ้ งการจะส่อื สารตรงกับหลักการขอ้ ใดข้อหน่ึงหรอื ไมด่ ว้ ยนะคะ

ประโยคบอกเล่า Subject+ was/ were + V.ing was ใช้กับประธานทม่ี ี 1 เดยี ว เชน่ I หรอื ชือ่ คนๆ เดียว เชน่ Miranda, Jose, Lilly เป็นตน้ were ใช้กบั ประธานท่มี มี ากกวา่ 1 เช่น classmates, security guards และ สรรพนาม we, you, they ***เมื่อเราเลอื ก was/ were ไดถ้ ูกตอ้ งแล้ว เราตอ้ งใส่-ing ท่ีค้ากรยิ าต่อ เช่น*** • They were driving fast when the accident happened. • Brenda was cleaning her house when a bird tapped on her window. • The mailman fell when he was approaching our door.

ประโยคปฏิเสธ Subject+ was/ were + not + V.ing ตัวอยา่ งประโยค • Jessica was not performing when I visited her. • The President was not listening to the speech when he was on stage. • North Korea was not signing the deal with its counterpart after the conflict in April. ข้อสังเกต รูปย่อของ was not/ were not สามารถใชไ้ ดใ้ นภาษาพดู หรอื ภาษาท่ีไมเ่ ป็นทางการนะคะ was not= wasn’t / were not = weren’t
