PYRAMID Thousands of years ago, Egypt was home to one of the richest and most powerful civilizations in the world Their art and culture continue to fascinate people even today, and one of the most impressive legacies they left behind is their pyramids. The great Pyramid of Giza is the only surviving Wonder of the Ancient World, and the complex of pyramids and other structures on the Giza plateau near Cairo, Egypt, is a World Heritage site for its importance to history.
EGYPT BUILDERS OF THE PYRAMIDS Every year, millions of people from around the world visit the Great Pyramid at Giza. It is as popular today as it was 4,000 years ago. During most of that time it was taller than any building on Earth. How was it made?
Nile AFRICA The Great Pyramid, one of the Wonders of the World, has more than 2 million blocks. Many of them are huge. Some are as heavy as five school buses! Although they were heavy, workers put a block into the pyramid every three minutes.
The workers, Egyptian men and women, worked in teams. The teams had different jobs. Some dug up the stones. Others moved them. Another team cut the stones. The last group put the stones into the pyramid.
One of the pyramid complex includes a unique feature: the Great Sphinx, a huge guardian statue with the head of a man and the body of a lion.It is one of the oldest and largest statues in the world,
