GOD’S PEOPLE GATHER Gathering Prelude Ringing of the Church Bells Parish Notes Invocation *Call To Worship Leader: God has set this new day before us; People: A day set apart, a day of rest and praise. Leader: God has set our lives before us; People: A span of years in which we share in relations, learn, and serve.

Leader: God has set a holy, loving seal upon our hearts; People: That we might live fully in deep love and know the prosperity of abundant contentment. *Opening Hymn UMH#144 “This Is My Father’s World” This is my Father's world, and to my listening ears all nature sings, and round me rings the music of the spheres. This is my Father's world: I rest me in the thought of rocks and trees, of skies and seas; his hand the wonders wrought. This is my Father's world, the birds their carols raise, the morning light, the lily white, declare their maker's praise. This is my Father's world: he shines in all that's fair;

in the rustling grass I hear him pass; he speaks to me everywhere. This is my Father's world. O let me ne'er forget that though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet. This is my Father's world: why should my heart be sad? The Lord is King; let the heavens ring! God reigns; let the earth be glad! Children’s Chat Recognition of Graduates GOD’S WORD PROCLAIMED Choral Prayer for Illumination: Guide us, O God, by your Word, and Holy Spirit, that in your light we may see light, in your truth find freedom, and in your will discover peace. Amen.

Epistle Reading 1 Philippians 1:3-11 I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart and, whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God’s grace with me. God can testify how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus. And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God. Special Music Carol Hess

Gospel Reading Luke 8:4-15 While a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after town, he told this parable: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds ate it up. Some fell on rocky ground, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.” When he said this, he called out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.” His disciples asked him what this parable meant. He said, “The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to others I speak in parables, so that,“‘though seeing, they may not see; though hearing, they may not understand.’ “This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God. Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time

of testing they fall away. The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature. But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop. Leader: The word of God for the people of God. People: Thanks be to God. Homily Pastor Lori Robinson Spiritual Roots GOD’S PEOPLE RESPOND *Hymn of Response UMH #583 “You Are the Seed” You are the seed that will grow a new sprout; you're a star that will shine in the night; you are the yeast and a small grain of salt, a beacon to glow in the dark. You are the dawn that will bring a new day;

you're the wheat that will bear golden grain; you are a sting and a soft, gentle touch, my witnesses where'er you go. Go, my friends, go to the world, proclaiming love to all, messengers of my forgiving peace, eternal love. Be, my friends, a loyal witness, from the dead I arose; \"Lo, I'll be with you forever, till the end of the world.\" You are the flame that will lighten the dark, sending sparkles of hope, faith, and love; you are the shepherds to lead the whole world through valleys and pastures of peace. You are the friends that I chose for myself, the word that I want to proclaim. You are the new kingdom built on a rock where justice and truth always reign.

Go, my friends, go to the world, proclaiming love to all, messengers of my forgiving peace, eternal love. Be, my friends, a loyal witness, from the dead I arose; \"Lo, I'll be with you forever, till the end of the world.\" You are the life that will nurture the plant; you're the waves in a turbulent sea; yesterday's yeast is beginning to rise, a new loaf of bread it will yield. There is no place for a city to hide, nor a mountain can cover its might;' may your good deeds show a world in despair a path that will lead all to God. Go, my friends, go to the world, proclaiming love to all,

messengers of my forgiving peace, eternal love. Be, my friends, a loyal witness, from the dead I arose; \"Lo, I'll be with you forever, till the end of the world.\" Sharing In Prayer: Concerns and Joys Circle of Prayer Churches: *Evangelical UMC, Middletown; * Price Memorial UMC, Freetown - Sierra Leone; Salladasburg UMC, Salladasburg; Broad Top UMC, Broad Top; Pleasant Gap UMC, Pleasant Gap; Christ UMC, Benton; Charlestown UMC, Mercersburg; Falls UMC, Falls; Fairfield UMC, Montoursville; Mount Zion UMC, Dillsburg; Christ Community UMC, Altoona; Greene Hills Camp & Retreat Center, Alexandria Prayer List: Corona Virus Pandemic, Our United Methodist Denomination, Those affected by senseless violence, Our Country and Leaders, All Military Troops, War in Ukraine, All Churches and Pastors currently in transition, Dawn Biesecker, Mary Tanfield, Geoff Walker, Eric Schilling, Frank Ciero, Sr., Susan

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. Alleluia! *Offertory Prayer (unison) Lord of all Life, as we offer our gifts to you this morning, we remember how dependent we are on your grace and mercy for every good and helpful thing in our lives. We affirm our trust in you through our giving. As your church, we dedicate these offerings and our lives, that we might not only move steadfast in your guidance but also lead others toward Jesus, our Rock and our Redeemer. Amen. GOD’S PEOPLE ARE SENT FORTH *Hymn of Sending Forth UMH #707 “Hymn of Promise” In the bulb there is a flower; in the seed, an apple tree; in cocoons, a hidden promise: butterflies will soon be free!

In the cold and snow of winter there’s a spring that waits to be, unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see. There’s a song in every silence, seeking word and melody. There’s a dawn in every darkness, bringing hope to you and me. From the past will come the future; what it holds, a mystery, unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see. In our end is our beginning; in our time, infinity; in our doubt there is believing; in our life, eternity.

In our death, a resurrection; at the last, a victory, unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see. *Benediction *Choral Benediction UMH#664 “Sent Forth by God’s Blessing (v1)” Sent forth by God's blessing, our true faith confessing, the people of God from this dwelling take leave. The service is ended, O now be extended the fruits of our worship in all who believe. The seed of the teaching, receptive souls reaching, shall blossom in action for god and for all. God's grace did invite us, and love shall unite us to work for God's kingdom and answer the call.

*Postlude * Invites the congregation to stand if able.
