May 1, 2022 Third Sunday of Easter 10:00 a.m. GOD’S PEOPLE GATHER GOD’S PEOPLE GATHER Gathering Prelude “Basse et Dessus de Trompette” By Clerambault (1676-1749) Ringing of the Church Bells Parish Notes (Can be found at the end of this bulletin) Invocation *Call To Worship Leader: We gather today, O Lord of Life, seeking fullness; People: Not the fullness our world offers, but fullness that comes from you. Leader: We often spend much time in life on things that do not count; People: Things that promise much and give little. Leader: Help us this day, to find fulfillment in your love; People: May we seek and discover all you have to give. All: Carry us O God, to a higher level of living, as we bring ourselves into your holy presence!
*Opening Hymn UMH#344 “Lord, You Have Come to the Lakeshore” Lord, you have come to the lakeshore looking neither for wealthy nor wise ones; you only asked me to follow humbly. O Lord, with your eyes you have searched me, and while smiling have spoken my name; now my boat’s left on the shoreline behind me; by your side I will seek other seas. You know so well my possessions; my boat carries no gold and no weapons; you will find there my nets and labor. O Lord, with your eyes you have searched me, and while smiling have spoken my name; now my boat’s left on the shoreline behind me; by your side I will seek other seas. You need my hands, full of caring through my labors to give others rest, and constant love that keeps on loving. O Lord, with your eyes you have searched me, and while smiling have spoken my name; now my boat’s left on the shoreline behind me; by your side I will seek other seas.
You, who have fished other oceans, ever longed for by souls who are waiting, my loving friend, as thus you call me. O Lord, with your eyes you have searched me, and while smiling have spoken my name; now my boat’s left on the shoreline behind me; by your side I will seek other seas. Children’s Chat GOD’S WORD PROCLAIMED Prayer for Illumination: (in unison) Living Lord, who caused all holy scriptures to be written for our learning: Grant us so to hear them, and retain them, that we may ever hold fast to the blessed hope of everlasting life, which you have given us in our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen. Gospel Reading John 21:1-19 Afterward Jesus appeared again to his disciples, by the Sea of Galilee. It happened this way: Simon Peter, Thomas (also known as Didymus), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples were together. “I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. He called out to
them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?” “No,” they answered. He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. The other disciples followed in the boat, towing the net full of fish, for they were not far from shore, about a hundred yards. When they landed, they saw a fire of burning coals there with fish on it, and some bread. Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish you have just caught.” So Simon Peter climbed back into the boat and dragged the net ashore. It was full of large fish, 153, but even with so many the net was not torn. Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” None of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish. 14 This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his disciples after he was raised from the dead. When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.” The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love
me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!” Leader: The word of God for the people of God. People: Thanks be to God. Special Music Robert Reynolds Sweet Hour of Prayer, Bradbury, apr. Raney Message Pastor Lori Robinson “Communion on the Coastline” GOD’S PEOPLE RESPOND UMH#364 *Hymn of Response “Because He Lives” God sent His Son they called Him Jesus He came to love heal and forgive He lived and died to buy my pardon An empty grave is there to prove My Savior lives Because He lives I can face tomorrow Because He lives all fear is gone Because I know He holds the future
And life is worth the living Just because He lives How sweet to hold a newborn baby And feel the pride and joy he gives But greater still the calm assurance This child can face uncertain days Because He lives Because He lives I can face tomorrow Because He lives all fear is gone Because I know He holds the future And life is worth the living Just because He lives And then one day I'll cross the river I'll fight life's final war with pain And then as death gives way to victory I'll see the lights of glory And I'll know He reigns Because He lives I can face tomorrow Because He lives all fear is gone Because I know He holds the future And life is worth the living Just because He lives

Alleluia! Alleluia!
Praise God, the source of all our gifts! Praise Jesus Christ, whose power uplifts! Praise the Spirit, Holy Spirit! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! *Offertory Prayer (in unison) Holy God, we bring our tithes and gifts to you this morning for your dedication, confessing that often it is shallow faith that keeps us from truly embracing a generosity worthy of your blessings. Like the disciples after your Son’s resurrection, we rely on our eyes to see and ignore the truths that are spoken in our hearts. Grant us insight that goes beyond vision, and may we offer ourselves totally to your work of redemption. In the holy name of your resurrected Son, we pray. Amen. CELEBRATION OF HOLY COMMUNION INVITATION Christ our Lord invites to his table all who love him, who earnestly repent of their sin and seek to live in peace with one another. Therefore, let us confess our sin before God and one another. CONFESSION AND PARDON Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart. We have failed to be an obedient church. We have not done your will, we have broken your law, we have rebelled against your love, we have not loved our
neighbors, and we have not heard the cry of the needy. Forgive us, we pray. Free us for joyful obedience, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Silent Confession Leader: Hear the good news. Christ died for us while we were yet sinners; that proves God's love toward us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven! People: In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven! All: Glory to God. Amen. THE GREAT THANKSGIVING The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth. And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn:
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the names of the Lord, Hosanna In the highest. Holy are you, and blessed is your Son Jesus Christ. By the baptism of his suffering, death, and resurrection you gave birth to your Church, delivered us from slavery to sin and death, and made with us a new covenant by water and the Spirit. On the night in which he gave himself up for us, he took bread, gave thanks to you, broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said: \"Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.\" When the supper was over, he took the cup, gave thanks to you, gave it to his disciples, and said: \"Drink from this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.\" And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ, we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving as a holy and living sacrifice, in union with Christ's offering for us, as we proclaim the mystery of faith. Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.
Pour out your Holy Spirit on us gathered here, and on these gifts of bread and cup. Make them be for us the body and blood of Christ, that we may be for the world the body of Christ, redeemed by his blood. By your Spirit make us one with Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world, until Christ comes in final victory and we feast at his heavenly banquet. Through your Son Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in your holy Church, all honor and glory is yours, almighty Father, now and forever. Amen. And now, with the confidence of children of God, let us pray: THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. SHARING IN THE BREAD AND CUP The Body of Christ given for you.
The Blood of Christ shed for you. PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING Eternal God, we give you thanks for this holy mystery in which you have given yourself to us. Grant that we may go into the world in the strength of your Spirit, to give ourselves for others, In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. GOD’S PEOPLE ARE SENT FORTH UMH#307 *Hymn of Sending Forth “Christ Is Risen” Christ is risen! Shout Hosanna! Celebrate this day of days. Christ is risen! Hush in wonder; all creation is amazed. In the desert all surrounding, see, a spreading tree has grown. Healing leaves of grace abounding bring a taste of love unknown. Christ is risen! Raise your spirits from the caverns of despair. Walk with gladness in the morning. See what love can do and dare. Drink the wine of resurrection, not a servant, but a friend; Jesus is our strong companion.
Joy and peace shall never end. UMH#310 Christ is risen! Earth and heaven never more shall be the same. Break the bread of new creation where the world is still in pain. Tell its grim, demonic chorus: \"Christ is risen! Get you gone!\" God the First and Last is with us. Sing Hosanna everyone! *Benediction *Choral Benediction “He Lives (v3)” Rejoice, rejoice, O Christian, Lift up your voice and sing Eternal hallelujahs to Jesus Christ the King! The hope of all who seek him, The help of all who find; None other is so loving, So good and kind. He lives, he lives, Christ Jesus lives today! He walks with me and talks with me along life’s narrow way. He lives, he lives, Salvation to impart! You ask me how I know he lives?
He lives within my heart. *Postlude “Festive Postlude on Llanfair” Arr. Williams * Invites the congregation to stand if able.
