Moscow United Methodist Church June 11, 2023 Graduation Sunday 10:00 a.m. GOD’S PEOPLE GATHER Gathering Prelude Prelude on “St. Catherine” (“Faith of Our Fathers”) by Frederick William Faber & Henri F. Hemy arranged by Gordon Young Ringing of the Church Bells Parish Notes Invocation *Call To Worship Leader: Come, now is the time to worship; People: We gather as God’s beloved people. Leader: We come to listen to God’s guiding Word and rejoice in showing respect to our Lord; People: We come to proclaim the goodness of God’s love together. Leader: We unite to lift praise for God’s grace as we continue on the path of discipleship;

People: With grateful hearts, we will respond to the call God places upon our lives to serve with merciful, unconditional love. *Opening Hymn UMH#89 “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee” 1. Joyful, joyful, we adore thee, God of glory, Lord of love; hearts unfold like flowers before thee, opening to the sun above. Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; drive the dark of doubt away. Giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day! 2. All thy works with joy surround thee, earth and heaven reflect thy rays, stars and angels sing around thee, center of unbroken praise. Field and forest, vale and mountain, flowery meadow, flashing sea, chanting bird and flowing fountain, call us to rejoice in thee. 3. Thou art giving and forgiving, ever blessing, ever blest,

wellspring of the joy of living, ocean depth of happy rest! Thou our Father, Christ our brother, all who live in love are thine; teach us how to love each other, lift us to the joy divine. 4. Mortals, join the mighty chorus which the morning stars began; love divine is reigning o'er us, binding all within its span. Ever singing, march we onward, victors in the midst of strife; joyful music leads us sunward, in the triumph song of life. Recognition of Graduates Presentation of The Colocicco & Schlett Scholarship Presentation of The Fleckenstein Scholarship Children’s Chat GOD’S WORD PROCLAIMED Prayer for Illumination: (in unison) O God, as we turn to your Word for us, may the Spirit of the Living Lord rest upon us. Help us to be steadfast in our listening, in our speaking, in our believing, and in our living. Amen.

Epistle Reading Philippians 2:1-5 Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like- minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Special Music Carol Hess “This Is My Father’s World” by Franklin L. Sheppard arranged by Martha Mier Gospel Reading Matthew 9:9-13 As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him. While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate

with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” Leader: The word of God for the people of God. People: Thanks be to God. Message The Value of Character: H2R Pastor Lori Robinson GOD’S PEOPLE RESPOND *Hymn of Response UMH#583 “You Are the Seed” 1.You are the seed that will grow a new sprout; you're a star that will shine in the night; you are the yeast and a small grain of salt, a beacon to glow in the dark. You are the dawn that will bring a new day; you're the wheat that will bear golden grain; you are a sting and a soft, gentle touch, my witnesses where'er you go. Chorus: Go, my friends, go to the world,

proclaiming love to all, messengers of my forgiving peace, eternal love. Be, my friends, a loyal witness, from the dead I arose; \"Lo, I'll be with you forever, till the end of the world.\" 2.You are the flame that will lighten the dark, sending sparkles of hope, faith, and love; you are the shepherds to lead the whole word through valleys and pastures of peace. You are the friend that I chose for myself, the work that I want to proclaim You are the new kingdom built on a rock where justice and truth always reign. Chorus: Go, my friends, go to the world, proclaiming love to all, messengers of my forgiving peace, eternal love. Be, my friends, a loyal witness, from the dead I arose; \"Lo, I'll be with you forever, till the end of the world.\" 3.You are the life that will nurture the plant; you're the waves in a turbulent sea; yesterday's yeast is beginning to rise, a new loaf of bread it will yield.

There is no place for a city to hide, nor a mountain can cover its might;' may your good deeds show a world in despair a path that will lead all to God. Chorus: Go, my friends, go to the world, proclaiming love to all, messengers of my forgiving peace, eternal love. Be, my friends, a loyal witness, from the dead I arose; \"Lo, I'll be with you forever, till the end of the world.\" Sharing In Prayer: Concerns and Joys Circle of Prayer Churches: Osceola Mills UMC, Osceola Mills *Bakers UMC, McClure *Albert Margai Memorial UMC, Gbambatoke - Sierra Leone Paddletown St. Paul’s UMC, Etters Trinity UMC, Clearfield Lykens UMC, Lykens Franklin Fairview UMC, Unityville Millerstown UMC, Millerstown Newelltown UMC, Roaring Branch Mount Carmel UMC, Orrtanna First UMC, Taylor Wesley Forest Camp & Retreat Center, Weikert Prayer List: Corona Virus Pandemic, Our United Methodist Denomination, those affected by the natural
