August 28, 2022 10:00 a.m. Twelfth Sunday of Pentecost GOD’S PEOPLE GATHER Gathering Prelude Come Ye Sinners, Poor and Needy 'Beach Spring\" Hymn Tune Arranged by Gordon Young Ringing of the Church Bells Parish Notes Invocation *Call To Worship Leader: Sing to the Lord a new song, a song of hope and thanksgiving; People: Praise God for wonderful acts of mercy and kindness. Leader: God has remembered the promise of old, life springs eternal; People: God has poured abundant blessings upon us.
Leader: Praise the Lord, all the earth; People: Rejoice, for the Lord is among us. *Opening Hymn UMH #278 “Hosanna, Loud Hosanna” Hosanna, loud hosanna, the little children sang; through pillared court and temple the lovely anthem rang. To Jesus, who had blessed them close folded to his breast, the children sang their praises, the simplest and the best. From Olivet they followed mid an exultant crowd, the victor palm branch waving, and chanting clear and loud. The Lord of earth and heaven rode on in lowly state,
nor scorned that little children should on his bidding wait. \"Hosanna in the highest!\" that ancient song we sing, for Christ is our Redeemer, the Lord of heaven our King. O may we ever praise him with heart and life and voice, and in his blissful presence eternally rejoice! Children’s Chat Blessing of the Backpacks GOD’S WORD PROCLAIMED Prayer for Illumination: Lord, by your Word you give light to the soul. Pour on us the spirit of wisdom and understanding that our hearts and minds may be opened to receive your guiding revelations. Amen.
Epistle Reading Galatians 3:23-29 Before the coming of this faith, we were held in custody under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed. So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian. So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. Special Music Carol Hess For the Beauty of the Earth Music by Conrad Kocher Arranged by James Koerts
Gospel Reading Mark 10:13-16 People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them. Leader: The word of God for the people of God. People: Thanks be to God. Message Pastor Lori Robinson Jesus Loves the Little Children GOD’S PEOPLE RESPOND *Hymn of Response UMH#191 “Jesus Loves Me” Jesus loves me! This I know, for the Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me still today, walking with me on my way, wanting as a friend to give light and love to all who live. Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me!

In this holy moment, we respond in obedience to financial giving with your blessing for the common good of all. Glory and honor to you Lord God. Amen. GOD’S PEOPLE ARE SENT FORTH *Hymn of Sending Forth TFWS#2008 “Let All Things Now Living” Let all things now living a song of thanksgiving To God our Creator triumphantly raise, Who fashioned and made us, protected and stayed us, By guiding us on to the end of our days. God's banners are o'er us, Pure light goes before us, A pillar of fire shining forth in the night, Til shadows have vanished, all fearfulness banished, As forward we travel from light into light. By law God enforces. The stars in their courses, The sun in its orbit, obediently shine;
The hills and the mountains, the rivers and fountains, The deeps of the ocean proclaim God divine, We too should be voicing our love and rejoicing, With glad adoration a song let us raise, Till all things now living unite in thanksgiving To God in the highest, hosanna and praise. *Benediction *Choral Benediction UMH#585 “This Little Light of Mine (v1&2)” This little light of mine, I'm goin'a let it shine, this little light of mine, I'm goin'a let it shine; this little light of mine, I'm goin'a let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine. (let it shine) Everywhere I go, I'm goin'a let it shine, Everywhere I go, I'm goin'a let it shine; Everywhere I go, I'm goin'a let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine. (let it shine)
