MATCH REVIEW Crawley Wasps 3 Cardiff City 0 FA WOMEN’S NATIONAL LEAGUE MATCH SPONSOR SOUTHERN PREMIER DIVISION Sunday 15 August 2021 Horsham FC A N INCREDIBLE performance by Wasps for the first game back of the new season, but it was Nikita Whinnett who helped set Wasps up for victory, with Cole firing two goals home. Two goals from Naomi Cole, and one from Player of the Match Nikita Whinnett earned Wasps victory at Horsham Fc on Sunday (August 15). Wasps dominated the opening stages of the game, with several early chances by Whinnett. Wasps broke the deadlock in the 28h minute however, with a cross by Whinnett towards Tash Stephens, who headed the hall down, which fell to Naomi Cole who ran onto the ball and put it in the bottom corner. Cardiff’s best chance of the game came in the 69th minute as the ball was passed across the goal, but no one was there to meet it. Wasps then quickly counter attacked with a long-range pass by Russell through to Swaby who slipped the ball in to Whinnett who calmly slotted the ball past the keeper. Another chance for Wasps came 9 minutes later as a brave tackle by Cole put the ball out wide to Whinnett who passed it to Gibson who had a shot from the edge of the box, but it was saved. Wasps further extended their lead in the fifth minute of additional time where Whinnett was brought down in the Cardiff box by the keeper. Cole then stepped up to the ball and slotted the ball to the right of the keeper, ensuring a winning start to the campaign for Wasps. LAST TIME WE MET... FA WOMEN’S Crawley Wasps 1 NATIONAL LEAGUE Portsmouth 0 SOUTHERN PREMIER DIVISION Sunday 1 November 2020 The New Defence, Horley Town FC OUTSTANDING midfield play by Immy Lancaster helped to fire Wasps to a 1-0 victory, with Megen Lynch helping to deny Portsmouth ensuring a hard-fought victory at The New Defence. Wasps started the opening 20 minutes of game on the front foot with numerous chances. The best chance came in the 8th minutes with Whinnett being fed the ball from midfield which she unleashed but was somehow saved by the Portsmouth keeper. In the 26th minute, a long throw down the wing by Rachel Palmer found Immy Lancaster who hooked the ball into Emma Plewa who was at the back post and slotted the ball into the bottom corner. Portsmouth then came into the attack with several chances before Half Time, but due to some quick defending from goalkeeper Megen Lynch she managed to stop Portsmouth. Portsmouth maintained their pressure at the start of the second half, but it was Wasps who had the better chances which nearly led to goals on many occasions. Portsmouth began to pile on the pressure late in the game, with a penalty shout and then in the last minute of the game Portsmouth had a quick attack, where it was Megen Lynch again incredibly stopping the ball with her hand as it was smashed across her, grinding out a win for Wasps. SEASON 2020/21 YOUTH AWARDS G OOD evening parents and players, welcome to tonight’s awards ceremony and thank you for joining us all. Tonight, is a night to celebrate the girls’ achievements in a difficult year. Last season was a a test for all involved but hopefully we are now coming out the other side and we can look forward to a full and successful season this year. As a club we are looking at ways to improve your daughters experience and ability whilst she is with us at Crawley Wasps. For that reason, I have implemented a new syllabus for the coaches to follow that creates a linear path for all players from the U10’s through to our Development team. All teams at any one time will be working on the same topic but the coaching and session may look different. The syllabus started at the beginning of August and we have already had some great feedback from the coaches and players. August saw our half term camp start with a good number of our girls coming along. We had former Gillingham FC and current Billericay player Ellie Jeffkins coach the girls for the week which was a great success. We will be organising another camp for the October half term so keep an eye out for the dates and registration. DAN LOGUE — YOUTH TECHNICAL DIRECTOR
