Project ScopeBackground on Project SiteCambodia is one of the countries amongst 10 countries in South East Asia’s recent past that has been in aserious internal war situation in the Pol Pot Regime between 1975 till 1979. A fundamental and directresult of this with the genocidal onslaught and mass killings of Teachers, Doctors and anyone ofacademia.The Pol Pot destroyed almost the country’s entire infrastructure, economy, public and private properties,and the education system. The regime killed almost two million people through execution, starvation,forced labor, overwork, torture, malnutrition, and poor medical treatment. The regime viewed educationthrough schools and universities as useless for the revolution and the development of the country. As aresult, the Pol Pot regime closed all educational institutions from primary school to higher education.Teacher receives poor training. In addition to the poor teaching qualifications, the country faces theproblem of a lack of teaching materials, educational infrastructure, teacher resources and textbook.At the cessation of this regime Cambodia was and still is to a much lesser extent, at a lower education andless development stage compared to other countries within the region. Therefore Cambodia needs and isasking for more support from other countries around the world, to strengthen specifically its ruraldevelopment structure and build self-help programs.Generally, the development of education in Cambodia currently is a slow process.

Having said that Prei Thom Primary School located in Prei Thom commune in Siem Reap province. Onewooden building was blown up by the strong wind in 2016. Classroom gets stain as it is very old becausethe school cannot afford to repaint it.Water and Sanitation is one of the many problems for the students in this school; they have very lowawareness of proper sanitation and good hygiene practice. Getting worst when the pump well only worksin the rainy season, but in the dry season it doesn’t provide enough water. Whereas most of the studentsdo not have breakfast and they said they don’t have rice, their mother doesn’t cook rice early in themorning. This is the result that student doesn’t have energy which cause their learning speed very slow.We need to help Prei Thom Primary School all together!Currently and running in tandem with these projects, Apsara Foundation intends to help Prei ThomPrimary School to build the national flag concrete base, repaint the school wall, hand washing basin andschool vegetable gardening.Expected Outcome • The most important projected results of this project will be to have the buildings painted also the infrastructure of the school made more inviting, then hope the community appreciates it, as it is mainly for the benefit of the children and to create a better environment for both Teachers and students alike. The main objective of the project is to encourage a sustainable and brighter educational community development. • To have the vegetable garden, so the students can learn how to grow vegetables • Students can gain better health and also will lead to a much healthier life style from hand washing basin. • Enhance the children livelihood; reduce health issue.Sustainable DevelopmentEmergency relief plays a very important role while the development of a long term plan is established.Once the basic need has been sat isfi ed the emergency relief must co nt i nu e to support thiscommunity until it is firmly under way. Having established a stable base this community should be ableto proceed to the next development stage/phase.Tentative Project ScopesBuilding national flag concrete base, repaint the school wall, hand washing basin and school vegetablegardening.
