Introduction Since1931ourcompanyhasbeenattheheartoftheAgricultural communityinEastAnglia.It’sabrandandnamethatwebelieveisas muchapartofNorfolkassomanyothergreatcompanies. TheBurgessfamilydiversifiedfrom farmingduringaperiodof agriculturaldepressioninthe1920’sandin1931ourcompany introducedthefirstcrudeoil(diesel)tractorsandhasgrownbut retaineditsuniqueidentity.We’veaddednearly250peopletoour rankssincethebeginningandhaveseenhundredsmorewhohave comeandgoneovertheyearswhetherthroughretirementorhave (wehope)progressedontogreaterthings. BenBurgessMBE 1901-2000 BenBurgesswasbornin1902,hisfamilyhadalreadyhadalongrichheritageof farmingandengineering,thishistorycanbetracedback250yearsto1770. BenBurgesshadphilosophyonbusinessandsharedanethosthatisstillthe cornerstoneofourcultureover80yearsafterhefoundedourcompany: “Lookafteryourstaffandyourcustomers,therestwillfollow” It’sanethosandculturethatourcurrentMangingDirector–BenTurner(Ben’s grandson)andourleadershipteamsandmanagersstillensurewelivebytoday. BenBurgesslosthisonlysonMichaelinacaraccidentreturningfrom Agricultural Collegein1952andhisdaughterElizabethfilledthesuccessiongap.Elizabeth’sson’s nowownthemajorityshareholdingofthecompanybetweenthem includingBen Turner,RobertTurnerandWilliamTurner.
