FOREWORD

EXPERIENCE HYBRID MODE The last two years played havoc on people from all walks of life. The most challenging thing was people were trying to somehow grapple with the situation the pandemic posed. It was a situation no one knew the answers to. Undoubtedly the whole world came to a standstill. In my opinion, students were most affected. Since we are the future, we are the ones who will lead our country tomorrow. This was well understood by my school and we were introduced to online learning. This way of learning was new for us as well as for the teachers. It was a sudden change from the routine. As we were all sailing in the same boat, we supported each other by discovering new ways of learning. Our school came up with an option of a hybrid model where interested students could go to the school while others could stay back home and learn side by side... This was a bit confusing in the beginning but we could overcome this hurdle victoriously. Initially, for us online students, it was difficult to listen and hear properly whatever the teachers explained. She might walk away from the mic, or it might echo or the network was bad. Though there were so many internet glitches that would come up, we somehow coped. In other words, we were ready to face any turmoil. As they say, when life gives you a lemon, make lemonade. Despite the fact that the classes were challenging, they were also interesting and interactive. We were shown many interesting videos to make us understand the topics better, groups were formed where we could brainstorm, we played Kahoot online to track our knowledge.. The best part was when we all took part in a discussion. Nobody could have believed we were sitting so far away from each other. Clearly, the involvement from the teachers and us was mind-boggling. According to me, online learning has opened a lot of possibilities to improve the modes of learning. I personally find this very innovative and creative. It's just a matter of time before this mode will become the new norm. - Dhruv Kaniyath, Grade 7 - Manaslu

EXPERIENCE INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS Independence Day is the most important milestone in the history of our great motherland, India. It signifies the unshackling of the billions of people living in India in the past, as well as a stimulus for rapid development of our beloved country. Independence is such a strong word and belief that millions of freedom fighters were ready to give up their life for this word. We must always honor them for their courage and bravery, as it is why we are living in one of the best countries in the world. My school, SilverOaks International, respects the efforts put into making our country a free place. So, we acorns at SilverOaks get the privilege of participating in the Independence Day celebrations every year on August 15th. I personally think that this year’s Independence Day celebrations were the best of the lot. First, we watched an inspiring video by our Principal Ms. Seetha Murty ma’am and the Team@SilverOaks about the heritage and culture regarding the great day of August 15th. Then we watched the live flag hoisting and celebration events in the school. After that, the whole class watched the T.I.E. Independence Day videos that we all made. It was really inspiring to see the courageous and valiant freedom fighters fight for their dream of Independence, which was enacted by my classmates. And at the end of the day, we all played an amazing quiz on Independence Day and its significance, as well as about freedom fighters who fought for it. To conclude, I could Confidently say that the Independence Day celebrations were the best celebration this year. It made me and my classmates feel Proud, that we are of Indian birth, and we felt Privileged to Honor those who made the dream of Independence a reality! - Dhruv Vihan.G, Grade 7, Dhaulagiri

EXPERIENCE THE SPORTS FEST The student government decided to hold a sports fest so that the students can find some time to relax as well as enrich their sports skills. So this fest was held for 2 days; on the 16th and 17th of December. We had both indoor and outdoor activities. The indoor activities were: Rubik's cube competition, Table tennis, Chess and Carrom board. The outdoor activities included: Badminton, Skating, Basketball, Running race, Football, Volleyball, Throw ball, Relay race, Tennis and Cricket. We were divided into 2 groups: - junior and senior. Juniors were students from grade 3 to 6 while the seniors were students from grades 7 to 12. In this fest, girls and boys were supposed to oppose each other separately. This event was held amongst the houses. We also had a dress code for each of our houses. We were expected to wear our t-shirts according to our house color. To participate in the fest, we first had to enroll ourselves in our favorite sport. Many people came to enroll themselves for the fest. The next day a qualifier round for the sports fest was conducted. By the end of the day, the names of the participants of each sport for the fest was given to them. On the day of our sports fest, the student government conducted the opening ceremony of the fest. President and vice president started marching in the green meadows with the school flag. It was then followed by the house captains and vice- captains marching with their house flags. After that the participants from each house walked towards the places where the banners of each house were kept. The audience then cheered for the players. The sports fest began. The audience supported the players representing their house. All the participants participated with great enthusiasm and competitive spirit. On the afternoon of day 2, the student government concluded the sports fest by distributing medals to the winners of each house. And finally the results were out. Tigers were leading followed by Tuskers, Whales and Hawks. We all have learnt something new after this sports fest. We all enjoyed cheering for the players and supporting the house too. Thanks to the student government for this wonderful opportunity. - Gurram Vahni, G7 Dhaulagiri

Experience 7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE The 7 habits of highly effective people can be something life-changing. It can act as a key to success for an individual and can be crucial during the most challenging times. These habits have also helped me to get through this year and become better at all times. I would like to share my experiences while practicing these 7 habits during this year. Let us begin with the first habit of being proactive. Throughout the year, I have been proactive by preparing for my exams well in advance and timely uploading the tasks that are given to us. Next is to begin with an end in mind. Before we start any work, we should have an end goal in mind rather than doing it aimlessly. When we set an end goal, we can achieve what we want. This will help us reach greater heights in studies and other activities. I have applied this habit by making a to-do list in the morning, so that I can visualize what I want to accomplish by the end of the day. Then we have Put first things first One habit I think that has helped me the most is to Put first things first. It means to get done with the work that is currently the priority rather than doing things that are unnecessary at that moment. When we put first things first, we create a priority list and work accordingly. Throughout the year, I made sure that I did tasks which carry more priority. This has helped me to avoid last-moment jitters as I am able to submit assignments on time. Another habit that I think takes us a long way is-Think win-win The past couple of years have been challenging for everyone as many families were affected by covid, but the only thing on all of our minds was to ‘’Think win-win’’, hence it helped us to overcome the dire situation. Since I had faced the same kind of situation at home, I understand that having a collective approach in completion of any task can lead to better results hence victory of all the individuals involved. The fifth habit is Seek first to understand, then to be understood I admit it, during our lifetime we have had lots of misunderstandings between friends and family but, the lesson I've learnt from them is that, first we have to understand others and only then can we expect others to understand us .

The next habit that I imbibed in myself is to Synergize The habit I believe in the most is synergizing. It means to do things as a group and supporting each other at challenging times. It has helped me and my classmates to share our opinions freely and get to know one-another through meets and break-out sessions. The last but not the least is ‘’Sharpening the saw’’ It means to enhance our knowledge and skills. A saw used multiple times gets blunt, hence, we have to keep sharpening it. The same goes for our mind, we have to keep sharpening our skills and eventually improve in our skill-set. I’ve applied this habit by practicing everything taught to us and going beyond the classroom. In our school’s PYP (Primary Year Programme), we were taught how to apply Concepts, Attitudes, and Attributes. At first, entering the senior wing was very intimidating but, the 7 Habits served as a guide for us, and helped us have a smooth transition from PYP learning. Since we have entered the ISAP wing, the 7 Habits are a step further into becoming a highly effective person. -Soham Patnaik, Grade VII Makalu

EXPERIENCE PROJECT BASED LEARNING During the Academic Year of 2021-2022, the students of the ISAP Wing had numerous projects and activities to look forward to. One of those projects was PBL, Project Based Learning. PBL was a knowledge and skill based project which made us investigate authentic, engaging and creative problems, questions or challenges. It was conducted online and was a self-driven learning project. We could do it individually or in groups. We had occasional meetings with the project leader as well. The projects were segregated into different groups based on grade levels. A few examples of the projects for the ISAP Wing were Design Thinking and Endorphins Equilibrium. Other projects included were Project Grit, Theater and Communication and Digital Information. On the Tuesday of every week, the students of ISAP Wing would join meetings and discuss their chosen project and subsequently complete the assigned work for that week. We could talk with our Project Leader throughout the week and also could communicate and interact with other students through google groups. Project Based Learning enabled students to think critically about creative problems which can be answered in numerous ways. That was what made PBL different from other projects, it allowed students to collaborate to think outside the box to create new solutions and answers to problems. Project Based Learning helped students to acquire a deeper understanding through active exploration of real-world challenges and problems. It is truly an experience that every ISAP student will remember forever. - Sai Srinika Ganga, 7th Mount Kailash

EXPERIENCE RUBIK'S CUBE COMPETITION The Rubik’s Cube is taking the world by Storm! It has gained popularity both as a fun toy, and an engaging mind conundrum. Speed cubing (The sport of solving a Rubik’s cube as fast as you can) is one of the Dark Horses in sports these days. Scientists say that Cubers’ hand - eye coordination has also improved by 59%! We acorns at SilverOaks were fortunate and privileged to have been given the opportunity to participate in the Rubik’s cube competition conducted by DPS Nacharam. First, we created Rubik’s cube ids, and we logged into the given site. We were informed that the scrambling algorithm for the cube will be released the following week. On the day of the scrambling algorithm release, we had to record videos of us scrambling the cube according to the given algorithm and solving it. Though I did not make it to the final round, it was certainly a thrilling and exciting experience, and I would love for the school to plan more exciting endeavors like this. - Dhruv Vihan.G, Grade 7, Dhaulagiri

Experience DIWALI- THE FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS It all started the day before the festival. My classmates and I were waiting for our Head ISAP - Kavita mam to announce that the following day we would begin with the diwali preparations, clean the floors, dust the walls and curtains and finally the exciting part, to decorate our classroom with flowers. We were asked to bring marigold flowers to decorate our classrooms. Some of us even brought daisies and roses. We all split roles that had needed to be done in groups for each one of us. For example, some of us were working on cleaning and dusting the classroom, while some were decorating the classroom with mango leaves and the marigold bundles which the others had made it weaving flowers using a long needle and a thread.. The boys weren’t much interesting in doing all this so our facilitator Nancy mam suggested them to draw diyas on chart papers and also make creative posters on diwali. My favorite part was making the flowers shaped like a diya on the bulletin board. Although we had bumpy starts we found ways to make the road smooth again by the next day. Making the rangoli was a bumpy start. We took out the excess petals and made a flower design on the floor using wet chalk. After filling it up with the rangoli colors, we used the marigold petals for the borders of the rangoli to make it more attractive. On arriving at school the next day, I was delighted to see everyone wearing colorful dresses and traditional attires ready to celebrate the festival of lights also known as DIWALI. We had a great time with some teachings and lots of games such as truth or dare, dumb charades, etc. At times while playing games the rangoli would get ruined, but my friends and I would instantly fix it as we knew the amount of effort we had poured in making it. This day was the best one ever after a long time, as I got to spend sufficient quality time with my school friends. I would say that time is a valuable thing which can never be replaced, so use it wisely and merrily. - Lakshmi Sahasra Pothineni, 7C KAMET

Experience MODEL UNITED NATIONS Model United Nations is a simulation of the UN General Assembly and other multilateral bodies. While playing their roles as ambassadors, student “delegates” make speeches, prepare draft resolutions, negotiate with allies and adversaries, resolve conflicts, and navigate the Model UN conference rules of procedure – all in the interest of mobilizing international cooperation to resolve problems that affect countries all over the world. The essence of Model UNS lies in the three core skills this activity engages: Public Speaking, Researching, Lobbying. There will be “General Assembly'' committees, each student represents a specific country and participates in a specific committee (i.e., the Security Council, UNHRC, WTO, UNEP, UNESCO or the WHO etc). Also, “OPEN FORUMS” are conducted to discuss various chosen topics and present and speak your ideas on the topics. On 17th & 18th of July 2021, Concord Collective conducted MUN . The aim of the Open Forum is to discuss the policies, strategies and guidelines that must be followed by educational institutions as they gradually open up and resume their daily operations post pandemic. I had participated in the Open Forum and during its course, I was given the opportunity to speak on the chosen topic present my ideas and here are some excerpts from my speech : School closures are likely to have worsened educational inequalities, jeopardizing the attainment of United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.” I had elaborated on the topics - fate of primary school students, traveling to schools/colleges ,social distancing within schools, teachers and administration.

I was constantly involved in the proceedings by raising point of order & point of information and on the second day just before the closing hours the awards for different categories were announced and I was awarded “THE BEST 1st TIMER “award & the Best draft resolution paper where I signed as a signatory. I felt highly honored and thanked my parents & teachers for their encouragement and support in presenting my ideas at this MUN. MUN is a great platform where people can shed their inhibitions of public speaking. This chance to overcome a fear of public speaking is great because it supports delegates’ personal growth and triggers self-confidence. It also enhances our leadership skills, debating skills, creativity, collaboration, communication, international literacy, media literacy, technology literacy, flexibility, productivity, listening & Social skills. Being a delegate, I thoroughly enjoyed the MUN sessions and I would recommend my fellow students to participate at least one MUN session and get the feel of it. - SRIMAYI ORUGANTI, 7C KAMET

Experience SPEAKER @ SILVER OAKS \"If you can speak, you can influence. If you can influence, you can change lives.\" Speaking is the most essential life skill. Speaking is a skill that allows us to communicate effectively. They give us the ability to convey information verbally and in a way that the listener can understand. The purpose of having speaking competitions regularly? Our School’s Culture is to speak softly and pleasantly, feel good, look good and do good and have and show confidence. At Silver Oaks, language is essentially about communicating thoughts, feelings, and ideas. Our school's purpose of having Speaker@SO is to develop confident speakers who have clarity and depth in their ideas and thoughts, with fluency and right pronunciation, accurate usage of grammar, and good vocabulary. How Speaker@SO has been held this year Every year, our homeroom teachers give us a topic to speak about and we are given time to prepare and deliver a speech about it. This year, however, there was a website that was created in which our speaking rubric, purpose, tonality, speaking styles, and criteria were given. Every week, we gave a speech with the help of the pondering questions given in the site. Every week, we spoke about different UOI(Unit of inquiry) themes(Who we are, Where we are in place and time, How we express ourselves, and How we organize ourselves). But we don’t speak every time. We watched videos of students who are adequate speakers. We reflected on what we can avoid while delivering our speech by watching their videos titled “Baseline” and we tried to learn something we can implement while speaking from them by watching their videos titled “Exemplar”. After watching all the videos, we evaluated each one of the students and typed in our feedback.

ISAP EdX Every year, we have a competition called ISAP EdX. ISAP EdX is a platform for us young speakers to ignite our minds.ISAP EDx is a wonderful opportunity that provides young budding talented speakers to stimulate their oratory skills further. All in all, we got a wonderful opportunity to develop our public speaking skills. -Likitha, Grade VII Trisul ISAP ^X

Experience SPORTS QUIZ Sports have a very special place in my heart. When my school said that we were going to have a sports quiz, I was really excited. Sports quizzes are very important in the current situation and this world where everything has become online.Sports quizzes bring to our knowledge - sports affairs, Different sports titles, Sportspeople and the spirit of sports. The purpose of this Sports quiz is to spread awareness about sports and encourage Students to participate in sports events. Events like this sports quiz instills a sense of sportsmanship In us and helps us learn the lessons of life. Last year, on August 6th 2021 we were informed that we were going to have a sports quiz competition. In the sports quiz there were 3 rounds. Interested students could attempt the 1st round which was a google form. Then on the 9th of august ,we received our results. I and 17 other students from grade 7 and 8. We were also given information regarding the round 2 of the sports quiz the following day. We had a demo round for round 2 and on August 11 Round 2 was conducted on the Quizzes platform. On August 14th our homeroom teacher announced the results for the 2nd round of the sports quiz. I was selected !!!! The 3rd round was to be conducted on August 27. But later it was postponed to 8th september 2021. Before the Quiz ,we were also notified that the last round was not only the final round but also an inter - school sports quiz. The hosts also give us an article to prepare from and to expect questions from it. The final round was supposed to have 50 questions which were divided into 10 rounds. And so all of us attempted the quiz….. So this quiz has given me a lot of knowledge and helped me understand the different affairs in sports. So I urge you all to participate in a sports quiz whenever you get the opportunity. It is a fun game as well as it gave me an opportunity to learn. -ABHAY LAKKOJU , Grade VII Trisul

Experience SILVEROAKS SCHOOL HOUSES Earlier this academic year, our school introduced houses. Our school divided all the students and teachers into 4 houses , which are :Tigers - Bravehearts , Tuskers- Path breakers , Hawks- Hawkeyes and Whales- Torchbearers. We were divided into our houses on the basis of our character and personality. Well ,after we all got divided into our houses, we got to know more and more about our houses and what does our house mean. Then the house was further divided into a pod and there were around 30 to 40 people in a pod. There we spoke to each other and shared our thoughts and feelings about various things related to our house. It was fun and we developed our communication skills. In the pod meetings, it didn’t matter which class or age we were.We freely shared our views and opinions with each other. To make our houses and our house participants more organized, the school conducted elections. The tradition of our school to conduct elections for Student Government is to motivate students to become leaders continued this year as well. The leadership roles were for Captains, Vice captains and Prefects for our houses and also President and Vice President of the student government. All the students participated in the voting process which truly upheld the values and principles of democracy . There were competitions between our houses, which was tough and exciting for all of us. There were different competitions like Rakshabandhan, Ramleela, Literacy fest, Green ,safe Diwali and Sports fest. Finally ,at last when all these competitions were over, the scoreboard was ready. Well, it didn’t matter who won or lost ,but that each acorn exhibited great sportsmanship . All in all,the main purpose of these houses is to communicate with each other and have a friendly competitive spirit. - N.V. ADITHYA, 7th Nanda Devi

- Srimayi Oruganti, 7th Kamet

I have been learning French for three years, and the experience is fantastic. It was a subject for which I was fully engaged in each new task with vigor and exuberance.
